Pillar and Post

We came to The Pillar and Post for a short get-​away following our wedding, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect place to head to relax and unwind. We arrived and were immediately struck by the stunning Christmas tree in the lobby as well as all the Christmas décor around the Inn. It was absolutely magical. Our room, a deluxe room with king size bed, fireplace and jacuzzi tub, was absolutely wonderful. The bed was beyond comfortable and ensured an incredibly restful night’s sleep, and we absolutely loved just relaxing by the fire. We had dinner at The Cannery and both nights our meals were absolutely delicious. I enjoyed the Loaded Beef Tenderloin the first night, and Cajun Strip Loin the second, while my wife had the Prime Rib and Lamb Shank. The prices weren’t unreasonable, especially considering it was a treat for us, and both nights our «temptation» package included a $ 50 meal credit which made things much more affordable. A nice surprise was coming back to the room after dinner to find a rose placed on our bed.
We also took in the spa treatments while we visited and enjoyed a relaxing couples massage, as well as the spa’s many amenities. Our favourite was, of course, the hot springs which was exactly what our tired legs needed after a long night of dancing and celebrating at our wedding.
However, perhaps the best part of the trip ironically came *after* having checked out. We woke up to quite a bad snow storm but still attempted to make the drive back home. Within a block we knew the roads were much too unsafe for us to continue and we agreed to turn around and just get a cheap room for the night. When I arrived at the front desk and explained the situation the gentleman at the front desk told me not to worry about it and was able to book us the same room (just one floor lower) for a highly discounted rate. He also asked whether we preferred white or red wine, saying «if you have to stay another night, you might as well enjoy it!». Shortly after having settling into our new room there was a knock at the door and there he was with a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates for us to enjoy.
It’s these little touches and gestures that really stick in the mind and made our experience so incredibly wonderful. I would most definitely recommend The Pillar and Post to any couple looking to get away, and we will definitely be coming back!

This place was pretty good overall. There is a cosy thermal spa that is really relaxing in the winter.
The rooms come with a nice fire place and the bed sheets were really cosy.
drawback is there wasnt much else in the building besides the spa and the pool and kinda felt small.
Location was further from the main shops on queen.

We had a great stay. Our suite was excellent and the staff were all very friendly. The food in the restaurant was delicious and promote service. Same applies tithe bar area. Was our 10 anniversary and they were so very nice to us. Will be back again as didn’t get to a play or see all we wanted to an emergency with one of our Shih Tzu doggies had us rush home. Some of our friends joined us for dinner and drinks one night and they had stayed there recently and also loved it. I travelled a lot for work and pleasure and this is the nicest places all round.

Not understanding the good reviews here! This place is in a good location but the room and common areas were very downscale. The room is trapped In the eighties (and not in a hip retro kind of way), the paint is peeling, the furniture chipped, the bathroom done in a cheap Tuscan style and the room was really small. This place was packed with wedding parties so you could not even escape the dark motel-​like room to go to a nice common area. The room was also not that clean and the bathroom needed a good scrub (hair in the corners, mould around the shower). The breakfast was quite pleasant. The pool area was again, like the other common areas, too small for the number of room so you would never use it as it was so crowded. The common areas, even the lobby were just jam packed. For 400.00 a night, this was very poor value. I am not exaggerating when I say hat I have stayed in better motels.

Super cute place. Loved the lush robes. The hot springs were fun to relax in and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the prime rib for dinner and it was great. They will shuttle you into town at no charge but it’s also in walking distance.

This was the 3^rd year celebrating my birthday at Pillar and Post! We visit the wine festival and spend the night ! Love the outside hot tub! What a wonderful relaxing time with my family!!!

I came here for a special occasion and I’m really satisfied with my stay. The facilities are nice and relaxing. It was a very elegant and nice place to be. I really enjoyed it.

Initially booked here for one night with friends. We enjoyed it so much we stayed for two. It was early September and probably half full on the Monday though busy on the Sunday night. Travelled with our son and so we had requested a room with a cot — the staff informed us on arrival that they hadn’t put in the cot, but this was as they had presumed as Europeans we had actually meant a crib– they were right ! They also said they wanted to check if we wanted the room we initially booked as there was no elevator for the pram (we did as we wanted to leave it in the car for during the day). Nice and thoughtful approach– they then gave us the room opposite our friends so we could call in easier.
It was a sign of how the whole weekend would be. Friendly and helpful staff particularly with children. The buffet breakfast was a good price with great fresh options including a chef for eggs and waffles. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated with an open fire in the main reception and gas ones in each room. Big rooms with plenty of space even with a crib in. Turn down service called the first night to see if I needed anything else for the baby and to give a fresh flower. The meal in the restaurant was excellent that night as well and again very accommodating fir children. The pool inside was nice if a little small. The outside pool was surprisingly warm enough to swim with a baby even early in the morning. The only part of the hotel we thought could do with some change was the bar– I’m not sure why but there was no atmosphere in there and as a result very few went in. Just seems a little dated. Its a short walk to the town for other options.
Overall we had a great weekend– very relaxing spot and would love to return

Just came back from a beautiful weekend in Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake and I cannot begin to describe how thrilled I am with my experience. The small town, the wineries, the scenery and best of all our hotel!
The Pillar & Post Inn, apart of the Vintage Hotels group in NOTL was an incredible destination for a couples weekend getaway. As one previous Unilocal review writer said «an escape from everyday life!» Walking in, I pictured this older looking Inn to be run down, dingy and maybe even a little dated given past experiences with similar small town hotel/​inns where you pay top dollar for limited accommodations — not here! P&P was modern, contemporary in it’s design while still maintaining the prestige and heritage of a time not so long ago.
The lobby had exposed beams the extended across an open glass ceiling making for a bright welcoming lobby area. The hotel staff and concierge were professionally dressed, extremely helpful and knowledgeable about anything and everything to do about NOTL, P&P and the local area. We booked as part of a package that granted us some free wine flight tastings and when we asked if there were any other wineries we could get a pass for they hooked our group up with tasting flights to an additional winery free of charge!
The rooms were gorgeous and the fixtures modern. The bed was massive, even by King size bed standards and was so comfortable that it induced coma’s the moment my head hit the pillow (could have been the wine, but I’ll give credit to the bed). What i loved as well was how dark the blackout blinds were — We woke up at 9:30am and for all we could have known it was the middle of the night!
The amenities which included a lounge bar/​resto, a more formal restaurant, an indoor and outdoor pool AND a hidden romantic grotto style hot spring and spa, were all top shelf IMHO! We didn’t make use of the hot spring or spa on account of intoxication levels and time but it would be something I highly recommend if you have the time and money to visit. Pro-​Tip: The spa is overpriced — 25 min massage for over $ 80!
Some other amazing things that you should know about:
— Celebrities frequent this place, we just missed Adam Sandler and his family who checked out the morning we arrived
— If you’re a car enthusiast you won’t be disappointed as the parking lot is rife with impressive automobiles (hello canary yellow Ferrari Spider)
— If you plan on visiting the town, or any wineries within the NOTL ‘grid’, any of the Vintage Hotels offer FREE shuttle service to and from the hotel or to and from destinations. They picked us up from one winery and dropped us off at another no questions asked and no charge! The hotel will try to push a trolly excursion on you but this is a far better option (and FREE — just tip your driver).
Loved this experience, loved the stay– will be back again (when I can afford to do so ha ha ha)

THIS review is for the 100 FOUNTAIN SPA — while I think that it should have it’s own listing I’m happy to help in boosting the hotel’s ratings.
This was a day trip to distress as much as possible without spending a ton (since one of us was a student) and just rejuvenate — refresh and get out of the city — and oh boy, my noodles expended and turned into paste from so much relaxation I don’t know that I could’ve handled a spa treatment OR that an ounce of stress was left after this day. It was the cheapest getaway and so far, the best.
The drive up was insane because rush hour turned highway to gridlock — and while the same gridlock existed on our way back, because we were SO relaxed that it did not bother us AT ALL that we were driving 30mph on a freeway (honestly!!)
When you get your day pass for $ 35, you can also get a mani for $ 20 — take advantage of that-​otherwise it’s a whopping $ 55 .
They give you a robe and slippers bundle, making two less things to bring. You now have free access to the exercise room, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and the pool.
The indoor hot tub — the jet starter button is in a weird place — and people, like my friend, apparently often press the emergency button. Good tea and coffee available for free so that after a swim or a soak in the hot tub, you can simmer with a cup.
The food menu is also quite reasonable and while I was tempted to eat there, my desire to try a local restaurant was stronger so I had to forgo the pizza… T-​T (yes, pizza).
The out door springs is AWESOME; it was an experience much like the one I had sitting in a hot spring in Japan — except there was snow this time. The water was warm the jets were good and the steam was working my face and it was so relaxing that even the rain that made a visit didn’t bother– in fact it felt good.
The décor throughout the hotel and the amenities were incredibly cozy and appropriate. As I say, the outdoor tub felt very much out of the city and the indoor pool/​spa was very reminiscent of resorts.
Most of the spa ladies were nice too except one, but she was still polite so I’m good; the hotel staff was exceptionally friendly (more on that later).
ONE thing about these amenities — I am NOT sure about how well they are maintained — the out door one had algae (you can’t help that) but it got on all of us later and we spent time scrubbing each other; the indoor pool had hair and weird questionable things floating around which was a damper. Nothing a shower won’t fix but still made me grimace.
The concierge, PETER was awesome.
He was super helpful and informative and easily managed to convince us to stay in town instead of going to Niagara falls to eat — after looking and discussing over 3 maps (all with varying expansions of the town and the surrounding area) and looking through the menus of local diners we settled on Bistro 61. and offered to take pictures for us (which was nice that I didn’t have to ask). I will have to go back to stay there overnight and write another review. LOL

The décor was traditional, so if you like that style then that is fine. It does exude luxury. The beds were very comfortable and spacious.
The restaurant was okay, but the caesar salad has got to be the best salad I had ever tasted. I could tell that they used fresh parmesan cheese, and I liked how they presented the meal.

This is a review for the restaurant not the hotel or spa. We had an evening event related to our wedding here and the food was not good and overpriced. Also, we had several guests fall ill the night of the event. Luckily, they were only sick until the next morning. Never going back.

My girlfriend and I stayed here during the first week in July. We were there to celebrate her birthday, and our one year anniversary. When we booked our rooms on Expedia, we were given one rate but when I called the hotel directly a week before the trip, the lovely representative not only found us a less expensive rate but made it part of one of their packages (which included a free bottle of wine every night and full breakfast every morning) AND upgraded our room because it was her birthday (my girlfriend’s…not the rep’s)! Almost as nice was that she did it PLEASANTLY! Lesson learned… suck it, Expedia!
The hotel was beautiful, and our room was huge! The bath tub was gigantic as well. The bed was really comfortable, and the general atmosphere was tranquil. The turn down service included a rose on the bed every evening… enchante!
The staff were all very helpful, and the hotel provides shuttle service into the town (Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake). We took advantage of that on Canada Day to go see the fireworks. The shuttle driver was from one of their sister hotels but was just as cordial and pleasant as everyone else we encountered at the Pillar and Post. The location was not bad… certainly walk-​able into NITL.
We only had breakfast at the hotel so I can’t really speak to the dining options. That said, breakfast was great and if you walked away hungry the blame falls on you because the choice and abundance were present! We also were welcome to have breakfast at one of their other hotels in town.
We did not take advantage of their spa services (prices seemed a little… well, pricey) but they had a full selection of all sorts of treatments. The pools seemed clean and not too crowded.
All in all, we had a great stay here and would definitely return.

This place is a must go for anyone who has a couple of days to be pampered, relax, and enjoy real class service. The people who run this establishment really know how to pick, train, and supervise their employees because they are all incredibly friendly, professional, and helpful. Management should realize on the other hand how lucky they are to have them! I run a business and know very well that your employees can make or break a business. The people that make this place run are tops in their field. I have stayed here many times over the years and have always been impressed by the front desk politeness and willingness to help. The housekeeping staff is ready to make your stay perfect. The restaurants are first class with the quality of the food and the wait staff is very attentive. The sorroundings and décor peak loudly of quality, forethought and planning. A weekend here can only be considered perfect. Nothing in NYC beats this place.

Recently, friends of ours had their wedding at the hotel and we stayed in the hotel for 2 nights for the wedding. The amenities at this hotel are great, the rooms are large, the beds are clean and comfortable and the setting of the hotel is beautiful. We generally had no complaints about the infrastructure and environment.
However, a few things happened with customer service that were strange.
The remote for the TV was broken, so we asked the front desk to address it. I left the pre-​wedding day party early (midnight) and arrived back to the room to find all the lights on and the TV blaring, scaring me because I thought there was someone in my room watching TV. It was very strange that the repairman would walk into a dark room, turn on every light to fix the TV remote, then leave without turning anything off.
My room key was disabled/​demagnetized after the first night. I went to the front desk in the middle of the wedding reception because I needed to pick a splinter out of my toe, and after confirming the name and the card on the hotel room (I didn’t have ID because my purse was in the room, plus I didn’t make the reservation so having my wallet wouldn’t have helped anyway), I was still escorted to the room where the hotel staff watched me pick a splinter out of my toe for about 5 minutes before she just left me there — you decide if that was strange or not (remember, I have already been to the front desk to check in, ask for the remote to be fixed and ask for directions to the reception room — I should look a bit familiar by now!)
Thirdly, the hot water screams through the walls when neighbors shower. Each morning, we could hear every time someone in an adjacent room turned on their taps. Really painful to hear at 6 am after you’ve been consuming a few beverages the night before!
And last, but not least, they ended the party so abruptly, they practically took my wine glass out of my hand! At 1 am, absolutely EVERYTHING disappeared. You couldn’t grab a piece of the pizza they’d put out at 11, your drink was whisked away, whether you were finished with it, or not. I found that to be a very cold end to an evening: times up, you’re done, get out.
The amenities are amazing though — however, for the price, I expected customer service to be much more professional.

A great hotel if you’re looking for a bit of luxury. It’s on the pricey side, but what do you expect for a 5* hotel. We didn’t make use of the spa/​pool facilities as we didn’t have the time, but if you’re there for a lazy weekend away then this is the place. The staff were excellent, even phoning ahead to the restaurant to advise that we’d be late when our taxi didn’t arrive on time. The breakfast was buffet style (we chose this) but you could go from the menu if you preferred. A lovely stay, and a memorable visit to the area.

Talk about an escape from everyday life! And it’s just a hop skip and a jump from Buffalo. I stayed here one night in the dead of winter and felt like I took a trip halfway around the world, coming back completely rejuvenated.
Unfortunately I did not partake in their spa services (they were booked — make a reservation because this place attracts a lot of wedding parties) but I can comment on the overall hotel.
The room was updated, modern but warm and welcoming with a fireplace, couches and view of the gardens.
The hotel bar is likewise welcoming: upscale without being snooty. Excellent drinks (I had fruity martinis all night and was feeling nice and toasty). Cool little booths set back from the bar which allow for more private conversations.
The only downfall to this particular hotel is that it is not quite within walking distance to the heart of Niagara on the Lake — you will have to drive to get to the other bars and restaurants (a very short drive and it is well worth it). May be more walkable in the summer but I was there in February and the streets were covered in deep snow.

I would highly recommend staying here if you’re feeling fancy and want a relaxing getaway.
We first came here for an afternoon because a friend tipped us off that if you pay for any kind of treatment, you can use the facilities for free. We got massages at the spa, and then used all the pools, sauna, etc. And all I can say is OUTDOOR HOT SPRINGS IN THE WINTER. ‘Nuff said.
So recently we decided to stay there. If you stay, you can use the facilities and you don’t have to pay for any kind of spa treatment. We got a «bed and breakfast» rate when we booked over the phone, and for $ 208 (plus taxes and resort fees, around $ 250) we stayed for a night and ate at the large buffet breakfast in the morning. The breakfast had a traditional buffet but also a station with a chef making omlettes and waffles.
We loved staying here for our romantic one-​night getaway!

I went to the Pillar & Post Inn for a wedding reception this past weekend in Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake. The inn is walking distance to downtown Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake. Pillar & Post has a rustic, country inn feel. The entrance was dressed up to the nines with a huge Christmas tree.
The venue was very inviting and laid-​back. The service at the wedding was wonderful! The bar made pre-​made drinks to allow lines from the wedding guests (so smart!). Food was a-​ok, it was fresh but nothing over the top. I would like to try out their restaurant the next time I am in the area.
I was told through other wedding guests that the rooms at the inn were very comfortable and quite fancy. I would recommend Pillar & Post for future Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake overnight trips or just for a lovely meal.
