Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers

A few friends and I felt adventurous, so we left downtown. I know, the horror… Anyway, the room is nice, it smelt of delicious bacon, and it offered a nice selection of beers. My only complaint would be that the room is a little chilly.
We didn’t eat, but the menu offered good beer company staples.

We went today not knowing it was their first holiday extravaganza. They had Santa and live music. They also handed out free pizza, courtesy of Community Pizza. We had a five beer flight each and a pretzel. Also a free all CR of pizza. Was all awesome and the service was great as well. There was live entertainment and he was really talented. Can’t wait to go back.

Very chill and relaxed spot, and definitely worth the drive! Their main line up of brews isn’t as large as other spots but they have a lot more limited run and seasonal brews.
PS. Live music every Friday and Saturday.

4 stars for the building and tasting room. Kinda in a weird location, but that area is growing fast. Good to see some tasty snacks on the menu. –2 stars for the beer. It’s really not good. Every thing had a gummy syrupy texture. Everything kinda tasted the same with every taster blending into the next. No distinction between any style of beer, May be back in the summer for the patio. Also very loud kids there when we went throwing the extra large Jenga blocks around and screaming. To all the breeders a small indoors brewery is not the place for screaming kids who can not sit a a table and behave.

I am more a fan of distillery’s instead of breweries, I am not a beer guy, so cruising around and practically trying all the ones in the lower mainland… there was one more left… this one. I learned about Deep Cove from a co-​worker from another office giving me a growler of beer for Christmas and she advised me that they make their own vodka and gin. Anywhere that makes the V & G… I’m going to be there trying it out seeing how you weigh against the others that are making it in the city. There was no way I would know how to come here unless I used my trusty GPS (as I am not familiar with this part of town) and off we went on our journey to try more booze!
Coming here the place seems to be by itself, as it’s more in an industrial area. The building, the parking lot, it was roomy, with a ton of spots on this Saturday we were here. Walking in, the first thing I felt was the chilliness of this place, yes I had to keep my coat on but it was a aesthetically pretty place. On the right side from the entrance there was a stack of wooden barrels making up one of the walls, tables, stools, even barrels with glass on top to use as tables made up the main area. There was a little bar area where you eventually get served, and as I said earlier… this place is a brewery and a distillery. the best of both worlds! Walking right up to the tiny (yes. it’s not your massive beer bar like bar area) serving area… we were greeted and we went right for the goods! They didn’t have all their spirits to try, but I was able to try their vodka, absinthe, and akvavit.
I actually like the akvavit, for the others, they were good, just not to my tastebuds. Taste in the form of alcohol, just like food, it just wasn’t there for me compared to the ones I have tried in the city. With these small distilleries, you know that every batch is different, and I hope to try their future products. We went with a flight of beer tasters to finish our time here, and the padel started coming out, so we had the Loud Mouth Pale Ale, the Star Struck Rye, Trapper Johns Ale, and the Smooth Criminal Nitro Stout… I am not a beer person, so I would not be the best judge of these, they went down ok. but that was it for me.
One other note, there is a beautiful huge door, hiding God knows what behind it. you will see it when you need to go to the washroom, I thought this was impressive. Also this place is pet friendly, as we saw one guy have his drink and his pup was just chilling with him. As I said, this place is farther, if you live around the area you will be alright… but if not… this one is not for me. your everyday travels!

I love this brewery, their beers, and the most awesome staff ever!
My favorites are definitely the Tea Saison as a light summery beer, and the Vodka is super smooth and delicious! Great place to hang out anytime, but they also throw sweet events every now and again, which I will never miss!

The staff were great, gave us sips of all their current liqueurs, and we went home with olive and rosemary gin – impressive flavors that are great in the palate, and the olive and Rosemary extend to the nose in an incredible finish – don’t miss this if you enjoy gin.

Honestly, the best part about this brewery is the customer service. Fresh beer is amazing, and these guys have a great taste twist compared to the other breweries on the north shore… But they really differentiate themselves by they way treat you … Just so well when you hang out for a few pints /​flights.
The other breweries could learn a few things about customer experience from these guys!

What a great way to celebrate Friday. There were 5 beers on tap and I like that they had a choice of 3, 4 or 5 taster flights. Of course I had to try all 5. Their most unique one for me was the Sun Kissed tea saison by far, which combines my two favourite beverages — tea and beer. It was refreshing yet not too light, and I could taste the hint of rooibos tea in the finish.
The Smooth Criminal nitro stout was also amazing but tasted very similar to a competitor nitro milk stout. The lager, pale ale and IPA were not far behind.
I wish I had tried the vodka too, and apparently they have a gin out now. Not sure why a sleeve of black & tan is $ 6. Seems a bit steep.
The tasting room is large, but it seemed like there weren’t enough seats for the number of tables — maybe it’s some fire code or liquor license issue. My only gripe is that they have one washroom which I had to wait in line for. Twice. They certainly have the space.
If their logo/​growler design were not as boring, I would have considered buying 2L of their tea saison on the spot. (And truth is I don’t really need another growler bottle but if it has a nice design I would add it to the collection.) But now I have an excuse to go back. Who needs an excuse really? It is worth the extra distance.

Close to my work, love bring able to stop by on a friday for a beer and get a growler fill for the weekend! The Tea Saison is so delicious, Is it summer yet?! I really like the trapper john, a really great bbq beer. This place went all out on the design, from the parking lot to the bathrooms this place looks awesome. Great service!

We’ve been enjoying checking out the burgeoning microbrew scene in Vancouver and decided to spend Valentine’s Day checking out a few breweries in North Van. Deep Cove was our first stop. We bought a sampler which included small glasses of each of their beers on tap, plus a little taste of their house-​distilled vodka. All were unique and delicious — especially the vodka (which surprised me, as I’m not a big fan of straight liquor). In addition to the sampler, they sell beer by the glass and also fill growlers. Bottles of the vodka are also for sale.
The tasting room itself is new and impressively designed, you can tell they put a lot of thought into it. Oak barrels line one wall, along with a beautiful copper distiller and a big motorcycle! And don’t miss a trip down the back hallway for the awe-​inspiringly gorgeous doors to the brewhouse. They look like they were imported from a medieval castle (heck, maybe they were). There was a food truck (Aussie Pie Guy) outside during our visit — looks like he’s a regular there, along with another truck. A sign on the wall boasts live music every Saturday, a big plus! My only complaint is how COLD the room was. We left our coats and hats on and were still freezing. Turn up the heat, guys! Other than that, keep up the good work on the beer and vodka.

with the slew of nanobreweries emerging in Vancouver i guess i’m getting a little snobby. i’m looking for something different… something unique.
there was nothing wrong with DCBD per se, but i guess i just wasn’t totally impressed. the tasting room was ok albeit REALLY cold. like REALLY cold.
we had the flight and i liked the IPA best. fond the wheat ale a bit hollow and i am not a huge stout fan so other than the IPA i was left with the pale ale.
so it’s fine and local but for me it’s hard to beat Parallel 49 as my top local nano and unfortunately for others, i’m always looking for something ‘more’.

Stopped in for a growler refill and was not disappointed. Got their Tea Saison and it was fantastic! Light colour but interesting taste.
$ 12 for a growler refill and $ 17 for a growler bottle + fill.
They don’t have a vacuum filler however which means you should be getting your growler on the way to your drinking destination.

Deep Cove has a lot going for it — nice room, friendly folks, good hopped up lager and great wheat beer. Cheap refills on the Boston rounds compared to across the street at Bridge. Not too fussy about the filling tube though… seems we may ALL be sharing some things when we fill up there. Just go and see. Still drink their beer though — not sure what that says about me.
