I came in with a groupon and had the haircut, deep conditioning, highlights and style by Magen. I love my hair! I’ve always had long curly bleached hair but I wanted a change to mid-​length (the long bob). She spent time to understand what I wanted, and even though I arrived 15 minutes late she still did a thorough consultation before she started. I essentially worked with her to create the hair that I had been dreaming of. We talked about the colour I wanted and even the placement of the highlights. Towards the end, the owner of the salon dry cut my hair to give me more layers and less bulk. She also worked with me and told me what she was doing so I never felt like I was in the dark. Overall this salon is great and I really do my love my hair. I have received a lot of compliments as well. The only thing that caught me off guard is that they charge a price for toner — if you don’t want pure bleach blonde highlights then you have to pay an additional price that is not mentioned in the groupon.

I purchased a Groupon for $ 59 and booked an appointment earlier this week, like other comments, the owner told me to allow at least 3 hours for my shoulder length hair because it is «long» so I did. I arrived at 4:00pm and was quickly seated and the «service» began right away. I wanted some highlights and brought an inspiration picture. The woman who was doing my hail was new, as I later discovered when she burned my hair! It literally feels like straw! The owner was getting her own hair done and was too busy to oversee the new stylist’s epic failure. The owner left shortly after her hair was done. On her way out she told me that the Groupon only covered partial highlights so I had to pay a $ 50 difference for full highlights. Since I was already having the highlights done and did not want to be difficult, I reluctantly agreed. I had done my hair a million times and knew something was off with my stylist. I asked my stylist how long she had been doing hair and she said she had just moved to Canada less than a year ago! Red flags started going off at this point and with the owner gone and the salon down to 2 stylists, she washed the bleach out of my hair and was going to start blow drying. I had discussed the procedure earlier with the owner and part of the process was to colour the roots as I had regrowth. With my hair wet, she said she couldn’t do it. I asked the other stylist because I have dark roots and greys! and she said it was still possible, between the two of them, they tried to correct, and basically put so many chemicals in my hair that they my scalp felt like it was on fire. By this time I demanded they just wash my hair, I wanted to run out of there. The second stylist went home for the day and I was left with the stylist from hell. It was awful. Even her attempt at blow drying was terrible. I left with my hair still damp It was also past 9pm by this point, 5 hours later and my hair is brittle, wet, and my scalp has scabs because of the harsh chemicals. Oh and to make matters worse, they charged my extra for the roots. This is the WORST service I have ever received. DO NOT COME HERE.

I came to Salon Elle via a Groupon for a $ 59 full colour, cut, and style and was blown away by the service I received from Magen there. My appointment was booked for 5 pm on a Friday and I was told it would be 3 hours as I needed my roots colour corrected. The appointment ended up going 20 min past 8 pm (their closing time) and Magen was patient and professional the whole time. I myself have worked in retail so kept apologizing for her staying late but I never once felt that she was annoyed or rushing the service. She was very knowledgeable about hair care and styling techniques and made sure I was completely satisfied with both my cut and colour before I left. She even said if I gave it a few days and wanted more layers in the front, to come back and she would do it free of charge. The salon was clean and had a nice atmosphere about it. When you book an appointment, book one with Megan — she’s a bit quiet but delivers professional and patient service! You won’t regret it!

I enjoyed my visit. It was pleasant, the hairdresser Toni was extremely friendly and funny, and I could tell that she has befriended many regulars. Even though I came on a day that was pouring rain like it’s going out of style, the salon was still quite busy, clearly showing that there were many regular clientele that were happy.
The haircut was just a regular haircut, nothing too special or blew me out of this world, but as a guy I guess you really can’t expect to have wholesale transformations, especially with someone who has a double crown like me (i.e. I have difficult hair… ugh). I do think that the overall experience was pleasant, if nothing overly special.
I do have two minor gripes, though. Firstly, the TeamTicket said that there was scalp massage involved, and this turned out to be just the usual shampoo and rinse. They did use a special scalp treatment product, but there was no real massage involved. My regular salon provides an excellent scalp massage, so I was disappointed by this.
The second one is that the salon is hard to find as it is in the ground floor of a big office building located in a nook close to the DVP. There were minimal signs and directions to the salon too, this made finding them a bit difficult.
In the end, a good, solid experience. An OK haircut, with a very friendly hairdresser. Would I come back again? Maybe if it was under $ 30.
One positive point though, they didn’t try to sell any of the products they carried. I usually hate salons who do that, so this was much appreciated.
