I did not even get a chance to sample the food. Waitress brought our menu and beer, then disappeared for over 30 minutes(over 20 of which our menus were closed, waiting to place an order). If the restaurant was busy, I could forgive them, but with just five tables with patrons, that degree of service is completely unacceptable.

Mangia is one of the fewer Italian restaurants in Byward Market, and it’s got one of the best locations, too. There’s a nice patio out front, but the ambiance inside is just great! The service was good, and met all expectations. It’s also not nearly as busy as most other Byward Market restaurants… which can be a good thing, but had me a little worried. But I guess it’s partially due to the higher prices, and partially due to the average food. I liked my gnocchi, but my wife didn’t like the veal tortellini gorgonzola.

The tomato soup was tasty. The veal meatballs were dry. The smoked salmon pasta in creamy sauce was good. Service was nice.

They have a nice patio to people watch during the warmer months. The wine selection is decent, but noting more than that. The food is good enough to have me back again, but it’s not over the top amazing. The service is very good and attentive.
