First, let me correct the previous review: Patrick McGahern has moved from its old Bank St location to its present spot on the third floor of an office building on Dalhousie St in the Market. The photo is of the old store. I agree with the opinions expressed by the previous reviewer; this is an excellent place for Canadiana and history in general. They have fewer fiction titles than they used to, but it is still well worth a visit.

Anywhere else in the city I’m not sure this place could exist. But McGahern’s books in the Glebe is a perfect fit.
They’re a small independent outfit with mostly used or gently used books and I think they do offer some brand new books. Most of their stuff is historic, political or reference material but they do have other categories.
I don’t think you’ll find the Twilight series here though! My Dad loves books about local topics or history so I picked up a book about the history of the Great Lakes and another about the history of the canal.
I’ve gone back since because their books in the window display often grab my attention as they put out very topical and political biographies. The staff are quiet but will assist you if you do need it.
