Historique

Fondé en 1995.

The Conroy is an established neighbourhood pub in the south-end of Ottawa. We have a long tradition for being the local favourite — People even took their engagement photos here!

Bringing a new twist to pub favourites, our hand-breaded fish n’ chips are a staple amongst the regulars, fresh-cut fries keep them coming back for more, and our nachos loaded with fresh bruchetta mix make a popular late night snack. Or be a little adventurous and try our crab wontons, stuffed with cream cheese, crab, and green onions, or our sweet n’ sassy wings, made with real honey.

We like to keep things interesting with our Friday and Saturday Karaōke, Trivia on Thursdays, and our various themed nights. We’re always showing the latest sports game on one of our high-definition TVs, and welcome any local sports teams! And we’re always willing to take your reservations, so whenever you’ve got a party to plan, a meeting to get through, or you just want to order some take-out, give us a call!

We went to this place shortly after moving here because it’s walking distance from our house. It’s a weird combination of working-class and, the night we were there, drunk kids singing karaōke.
Yes, there are sixteen beers on tap, but they are all fairly standard macrobrews. The closest thing to an Ottawa beer is Creemore. Don’t get me wrong, if Creemore is the best beer you have on tap you’re doing OK, but you can’t exactly use that as a selling point for a beer bar. We didn’t eat but the food we saw looked like standard pub fare. It’s probably better than the Heart and Crown, but that place is the bane of my existence.
This would be a decent neighbourhood pub if you generally like macrobrewed pilsners (or — if you’re feeling crazy — a Guiness!) and a strictly over-thirty five or forty crowd of regulars with the occasional peppering of wasted 19 – 21 year olds singing into a microphone, but that’s just not our scene.

If you’re looking for an unpretentious, no-frills, nothing-over-the-top place that has a good beer selection, friendly staff and above-average food, check out the Conroy Pub.
I stumbled upon it one night after working in the area, and being very hungry, it definitely did the trick. I’m positive my review isn’t biased because I was already hungry, because I still had the sense to know how good the food was, rather than just gobble it down unconsciously!
I love my wings spicy, and these guys know how to make them spicy and good. Couldn’t get enough of them. The burger’s were decent, standard pub fare. Some people might call this place a hole, and while it’s not fancy and not spotlessly clean, it’s far from being dirty. The staff is extra-nice, and the people there are usually regulars who come for a good, hearty time. I’d love to come back here with a group of friends.

Let me begin by saying this — there are a LOT of pubs in Ottawa. The Conroy Pub is one of the least obtrusive of the pubs I have stumbled into so far. It is located in the far, dark corner of a suburban strip mall way south of the city in a very residential neighbourhood. But, what it lacks in location, The Conroy Pub makes up for in food and beer. First, the beer: Conroy has 16 different beers on tap. Sixteen! There are flagship pubs in the heart of the city’s tourist district that don’t represent like that. The food is typical pub fare (burgers, sandwiches, ribs, etc.) but, just as Conroy overachieves with its beer selection, it totally blows everyone else away with their wings. The wings come in many flavours (suicide, garlic, etc.) and they do take a while to arrive. But, they are delish! I asked the waitress how they do it and she said the secret was using only fresh wings (not frozen) and boiling the wings prior to frying them. Good luck finding the Conroy Pub (Walkley Rd. to Conroy and then south to Lorry Greenberg) but do yourself a favour and find it.
