After driving by a few times we found Trailer Pork Boys(look for the parking lot of the Best Western — it’s tucked up in a corner by the road) for lunch. One of the big upsides of Trailer Pork Boys — picnic tables! You don’t have to plant yourself on a step or eat in the car. Manfriend had a pulled pork sandwich and I had a cuban and fries. Both sandwiches were very good but I was a big fan of the cuban — it was just a great combination of textures and flavours(plus I am ultra picky about my pulled pork). The pulled pork was tasty, I just prefer it a little more chunky, a little more smoky, and a little less saucy. The coleslaw was very good and complemented the sandwiches well. The guys at the truck were also very friendly and came out to ask how everything was, which i thought was nice. I’m positive we’ll be back and wholeheartedly recommend this truck!

Awesome spot(food and location wise). Easily accessible with lots of parking and several tables with umbrellas for those warm summer days. The portions are generous(which should have split a combo between two of us) and the all pork menu is all delicious. There were 4 of us and we ordered 3 different things — pull pork(moist and tender) — schnitzel(light and crispy) and the Cuban(flavourful and generous). I know where I am stopping for lunch next time I am in there area!

We stopped by yesterday to try out the next truck on the list for the Food Truck Challenge. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, the Cuban, and the Pork Schnitzel sandwich, with fries and homemade coleslaw. First off, there is lots of parking in the hotel parking lot which this truck is located, they have 4 nice clean, plastic(no splinters) picnic tables, two of which are shaded nicely by a hedge and the other two they set up umbrellas for customers. The service was quick and friendly, my girls mowed down the pulled pork(they shared a sandwich… very large portion), and I opted for the schnitzel… really, really, great crust/batter, not oily at all, super flavors and the bun was put into a Panini press so it was still manageable to eat. The fries were great, could be alittle crispier but still very tasty, and a nice refreshing slaw to go alongside the sandwiches. good job guys, we will be back. enjoy.

After months of actually saying«I should go to Trailer Pork Boys» I finally went to Trailer Pork boys for lunch today and I am disappointed that I didn’t go sooner, the food is great! It’s in a parking lot across Carling from Westgate mall, so it’s easy to find. To eat I had the Cuban sandwich and it was awesome, pulled pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles, and a tasty sauce. For $ 7.50 it was well worth it. Unfortunately it doesn’t come with a side or a drink, so you have to buy that extra. The service was quick, got food in a couple of minutes, and they have some plastic picnic tables so you can sit. Or you can get take out. Overall a very tasty lunch.

Located in the parking lot of best western hotel, they have a great set up complete with picnic tables. Good graphics on the truck make it eye-appealing. Music inside gives some background noise to those outside. We tried the grilled cheese pork sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich as well as poutine. Best was grilled cheese — it has pickle in it which gives the cheese and pork a nice tang. Poutine was pretty standard for Ottawa area. Pulled Pork was good too! Bonus points for having paper towels in holders on each table. :-) Hint — check hours and location ahead of time — for example we’ve been using Street Eats Ottawa website with success to track the trucks. Would I return: Yes Would I recommend: Yes

In an effort to refrain from normal fast food for a regular Friday night gathering with friends, I decided to do some take out from Trailer Pork Boys since I’ve been on a food truck run this week(three food trucks in three days — and thankfully the weekend was here to give me a break :-)). Food: So, let’s get to the heart of any food truck, the food. All I all I generally liked what I had, which was their pulled pork sandwich combo and a side of ribs.(A Trailer Pork Boys combo adds, for $ 5, a drink and fries and, for $ 7, you get a drink and poutine). The pulled pork was flavorful and while I am not a fan of coleslaw, I have to say theirs is pretty darn good. The side order of ribs was also pretty good. My only critiques with the food were that the bread they use for their pulled pork sandwich was a bit dry and bland. I’ve seen pictures of their food where they use ciabatta(?) buns but that isn’t what I had. Maybe that is only for their other sandwich(cuban), or maybe they ran out of their good buns, but either way I’d suggest they upgrade to a better bun as the extra cost is minimal and would make for a more tasty and pleasing experience. Likewise, the fries that come with the combo were equally unremarkable. While they seemed to be fresh cut fries(which is a plus), they were also a bit tasteless. Location: Located in the parking lot of a hotel at the corner of Merivale and Carling(the hotel owners are also the food truck owners I believe), this place is easy to get to, has lots of parking and has a decent size eating area if you want to enjoy your food there. Other — $$: One downside with food trucks is that they don’t accept debit or credit cards, and as food trucks in Ottawa are a popular fad as of late, the prices can sometimes seem a bit inflated compared to restaurants or fast food places.(Or maybe it is just that we assume a food truck will be closer to fast food prices and not restaurant prices?). Either way, I had to change my initial order since I didn’t have enough cash to foot the bill(and I had $ 55 on me!) So a warning to those that don’t carry a lot of cash(which I never seem to as of late), is to make sure you hit a bank machine before going to a food truck.(FYI I think there is a RBC across the street at Westgate Mall). On the plus side, you should be full though after eating(we all were). I”ll be back though, but next time for sure I’ll make sure my wallet is ready first.

Was super good. I tried the pulled pork sandwich combo. Which was great its a fair size sandwich with coleslaw on it and it comes with a can drink and fries and coleslaw. All this for $ 12. Only complaint and it just could be me I would have liked a bit of a kick to it.

I had the pulled pork combo(sandwich, fries, coleslaw and a can of pop). I thought it was pretty good, and I’d definitely go again. But I didn’t find it «to die for», and to be honest, I’ve had better at a local restaurant chain a few months back. I think the sauce needs to be a little thicker so it sticks to the meat. Someone else mentioned the slaw was tasty, but we found it rather tasteless. Maybe we got a bad day? Note that they close for the winter. This week is the last week they’ll be open.

Tasty sandwiches, great coleslaw! Go early because sometimes they run out of food.

Alright, I had to jump back over to the Ottawa board to show some love for a food truck… a pretty awesome food truck that specializes in and serves only pork based products! Let’s welcome the newest addition to the food truck scene to Ottawa, yes it’s called Trailer Pork Boys. It’s located at the corner of Carling and Merivale @ Best Western or across from Monkey Joe’s. The truck is in the front corner parking lot of the Best Western. It’s closest to the curb on the Merivale side. The menu is written up on a chalk board and probably changes regularly. Sandwiches are $ 7 and combos are $ 11 and comes with a sandwich, drink, coleslaw and fries. On this trip they were offering up a pulled pork, Cuban, schnitzel and sausage sandwich. I ended up ordering 2 sandwiches(schnitzel and Cuban) and that was the worst mistake of my day. The schnitzel sandwich is huge. The Cuban I thought was perfect size for lunch. The good part of this over order was that I had dinner now. The sandwiches take a little bit to prepare. I think our order of 8 sandwiches for 4 people took about 5 minutes as I got in a quick game of Angry Birds. The Cuban sandwich was delicious. They had all the mandatory items on a Cuban with a fantastic sauce. I’m going to say it’s the best Cuban sandwich in town. It’s not for everyone but I definitely know I love it. The schnitzel was good. I found it was just a well fried schnitzel but wish it had a bit more flavours like the Cuban. Talking to my friend who ordered the pull pork and schnitzel, he preferred the pulled pork so that’s definitely on my radar. I will know to only order 1 sandwich the next time I’m here as well. Nobody in our group finished both sandwiches but it was a valiant battle won by the food truck. Remember it’s a food truck, there are 4 picnic tables there that will seat about 6 – 8 people. They have nobody to pick up your garbage afterwards so please toss it in the trash cans provided. This isn’t Beckta so please don’t complain about the seating arrangement at a food truck… you know who you are.
