Wild Oat Bakery Cafe and Farm

Love the energy at this quaint little place! Food is amazing! I feel they could use a bigger location since it’s often crowded but otherwise one of my favorites!

Meh. Used to come here when in Glebe around lunch but it has gone downhill.
Grilled cheese with probably two ounces of cheese in it and a little swirl of beets and one lonely quarter sized pickle slice, and it’s not cheap.
Also, lots of the patrons linger like its Starbucks so you are quite likely to not get a seat. Lots of new places in he area to check out so will do that next time.
I was going to go to WholeFoods food counter but want to support the little guy but you can only go so far.

The Wild Oat Café in Ottawa is overcrowded, loud, and difficult to understand for newcomers; but it has fairly good food.
When I went in, I first noticed that I could hardly understand the names of menu items — partly because they were hand-​written, but mostly because they had such names as «Spirit Tree Cider», «Steam Baked Table Food», and «Raw Tart». All menu items were labelled «gluten-​free», «organic», or included «rice milk».
The overall atmosphere was uncomfortable, overly ‘down-​to-​earth’, and quite loud. Seating was uncomfortable when there was any at all, and most seats appeared to be made of old cupboard doors.
I had the grilled cheese with tomato and basil, and it was quite good, although slightly too crusty. One of the people with which I attended the café complained that their sandwich (called something like «the Eloaxeaxtoceo», generally incomprehensible) was very dry and initially quite unenjoyable.
To top it all off, you were expected to put away your own dishes. Make of this what you will.
Overall, not a fun experience, but decent sandwiches.

This place is totally awesome. You wont miss the meat. The complete opposite of «art is in» bakery (where all you smell is bacon).
I went here last weekend with some friends and we ordered a whole bunch of great food. I ordered three pizzas — all of which were great. individual pizzas are $ 6. Then I ordered the eggs benedict. The English muffin it sits on was a bit crispy but the eggs were OK. I also ordered the omelette. Both egg dishes were around $ 12 and they charge $ 1 extra for wholegrain toast. The eggs come with a very nice side of hash browns.
They seem to be popular for their drinks but I did not order any of those. I will definitely return.
My only complaint: The music towards the back is way too loud.

One of the few places in Ottawa with a fairly good selection of vegan/​gluten-​free foods. The menu items look creative, which makes me want to return to try everything. Only caveat is there’re a lot of starchy foods on the menu.

Nice looking place. Female server pleasant. The male staff not so much, no smiles, lazy attitude, plus arrogance from guy behind counter. He didn’t know the difference between a French omelette and the typical diner Canadian version, scramble omelette. I specifically said I didn’t want the latter, yet that what I got… why not just tell me it’s not a proper French omelette?

Omelette was dry which is why I don’t order them. The mushrooms in it were burnt. The cheese almost non existant. The choice if toast was white or Kamut. But in their bakery there were six kinds on the shelves. The jam was great, not too sweet. The bread was dry and bland. The café au lait great.
My partners sweet potato home fries were very good.
The menu for all but breakfast looked interesting. Maybe that’s a better bet.
At nine on a Saturday morning it was full of seniors. Quiet and nice to sip coffee while people watching.
Would I go back ?
Not likely but my partner says he would.

I was in Ottawa for a short visit and Wild Oat came highly recommended by 2 friends and it truly did not disappoint!
Awesome, delicious options. Great service. Knowledge of vegan /​gluten free. Quick food preparation and lovely atmosphere.
For lunch I had the Wild Card sandwich on gluten free bread (for only $ 0.75 more than gluteny bread) and it was full of delicious veggies and goat cheese. I grabbed a gluten free & vegan chocolate peanut butter bar for dessert and loved every bite.
I actually ended up going back for dinner as I was still in the area while I waited to head to the bus terminal. It seemed to have the best options for me at a reasonable price point. I opted for the Trinidadian Bean wrap sans dairy and in a gluten free wrap. Just as one of the kitchen staff went to make my wrap he asked if I wanted a side salad since I wasn’t getting dairy — so nice! He also checked to see if I ate honey since there was some in the dressing. Amazing!
The wrap itself was awesome and came with a tasty, spicy sauce.
I can’t wait to come back here when I’m in Ottawa again!

liked the brownie cheesecake! just perfectly baked. not very sweet, but one can just know they used good creamcheese.

I went here on a Friday morning and was surprised at how busy this little place is. It is super quaint and the bakery attached is also small but has a nice selection of breads.
The staff here are so nice and will answer any questions you have. The food is good, the breakfast was so-​so. They have a good selection of gluten free options on their menu which is awesome. Note: this is a vegetarian place too. Coffee was good and I like that it is fair-​trade and organic! My only complaint is that the cups are really small for the price. Also the chai was, well, terrible.
This place is super busy and has limited seating. It’s not a place you can grab a coffee and read a book.
I would recommend this place however and I will be back for a gluten free sandwich next time!

Yum! Did I say yum yet? My blender is broken and I’ve been dying to make vegetarian or vegan burger patties. I happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped by to see if Wild Oats had any. It was my lucky day! I bought 4 Wild Burger patties. These were super easy to cook at home and delicious! Made with pumpkin and sunflower seeds, walnuts, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, herbs, and GF tamari, how could you go wrong?! Needless to say, I’ll be back for more.
