Centennial Cafe

Prices were high for what you got. Portions were small. I ordered Chinese food for 8 people, so spent a fair bit of money. I am not from Pemberton and thought I would give this place a try. Service was very slow though it was not busy. I saw the cook eating while cooking my food. The food was bland.
This place is for the locals who don’t have anything to compare this with. If you are a fan of Chinese food from the big city, you will be disappointed.
The owners and staff are nice, but I won’t be coming back.

I’ve had the food here a few times It is the only place to get Chinese food and the people who run the place are very nice but I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back. It’s never been that exceptionally great but in previous experiences it wasn’t bad either. I noticed consistency issues with food being good at times and mediocre at others. I have heard complaints from friends of mine that were really gross but thought I’d give the place another chance and now wish I hadn’t. I ordered egg rolls, a number four, and wonton soup for my lunch the following day. I was told my order would ready in five to ten minutes. Almost twenty minutes later I was worried about missing the bus so I started keeping an eye on the kitchen. It appeared some of it was ready and they had forgotten about the rest so they needed to be reminded to finish my order. The soup was sitting on the counter without a lid and the guy who had reminded the others about my order walked past it and noticed something was floating inside it so he stuck his dirty fingers into my soup pulled something out and wiped it on the counter and his pant leg before getting a lid for the container. Before then he had taken money for other’s orders, flipped through a newspaper, had his hands in his pockets, and also scratched his head on his way into the kitchen so I was disgusted he stuck his dirty fingers into my food and I don’t even want to know what it was he saw and pulled out. The egg rolls were so greasy they were literally dripping with oil and soaked right through the bag they came in. I had ordered them before and they were fine so I was disappointed. The number four (sweet and sour pork, chicken chow mein, and pork fried rice) was a good portion size but had hair in it. My friend ordered a different combination (I can’t recall which) and he said some of it had a strange bleach taste to it so he tried eating the other components instead and found a big wirey piece of a metal scouring pad. The people here may be very nice but that doesn’t make up for expensive prices for low-​quality food and especially when it is unsanitary. Needless to say, most of the food went to waste. My friend and I both felt kind of sick from what little food we did eat before making our gross discoveries. They remembered the fortune cookies this time which I was happy about but I realized they are left uncovered/​unwrapped in a jar and thrown in the to-​go bag by unwashed hands after handling money and doing random things around the place. I really want to like this place but I think I’ve given it enough chances. I’m giving this place two stars because the tables/​washrooms/​etc. are kept clean, the staff/​owners are all very sweet people, service is good, usually very prompt with only the rare exception, portion sizes are good, however the prices are a little high and there is the obvious food prep issues leading to my aforementioned complaints. If this place shapes up their act when it comes to the way food is handled, conduct in the kitchen, as well as consistency and everything, I will happily come back and rate this place higher. Until then, I’m taking my money elsewhere.

I’m really not sure why Louise G said she had a club sandwich… all I saw on the take-​out menu was Asian cuisine but perhaps the restaurant menu is different?
My husband ordered our dinner and had it delivered to our hotel. We got the cashew chicken, fried rice and wontons. There was enough for us to each have two plates full with enough leftovers for one more meal. The quality was good and the food was tasty. The wontons were a little lacking, but there weren’t any left over so …
The service was great. We were told it would be here in 30 min and it got here in 20. We would eat there again, especially since they are one of the only restaurants who deliver in Pemberton.

OK Canadian and Chinese food in Pemberton.
Had a club sandwich. Whole wheat bread tasted like it had been toasted from frozen, but fillings were plentiful.
Decent service.
