Absolutely shocked at how bad the service and work is here.
I brought my old mountain bike in for new tubes and a chain. The girl working promptly told me the repair would cost more than the bike was worth, as I’d need a new cassette as well. I ask how much the repairs would be including the cassette and it’s $ 150! I guess I should throw the $ 1200 bike away and buy a new one.
To be fair, the bike had sat outdoors under cover for nearly a decade so the chain and little metal bits were rusty and the bike itself was dirty, but it’s a low mileage bike that just needed to be cleaned and lubed.
I tell them I want the bars raised as well to take pressure off my writs when riding so a rude guy with zero service skills suggests an extender and a pivoting neck. Great, let’s do it! He says the cables may need to be switched for longer ones and I say «great, let me know.»
I notice the first rude girl is not mentioning the bars on the work order so I remind her about it and I leave.
I get a text to pu the bike so my wife drives me there and drops me off. They bring the bike out and the bars are not done and there is no mention of it on the work order. They again try to scare me with the cost of this service if I want it. I say, «yes, I do want it but I’m not taking a cab home and leaving you the bike. «I’m pissed, because it took me years to get. My act together enough to get the bike in once, I’m a busy guy.
I ask about buying new pedals as the ones on the bike are clipped and I want platforms. The try to sell me a pedal wrench rather than take 2 seconds to turn a wrench a few times for free and sell $ 100 pedals. I say, you can’t swap them for me right now and they sat, no, they’ll charge me labour. I leave as I’ve decided these guys don’t deserve any of my money.
As I’m leaving I notice my new tubes are super soft so I have to go back in to get them to pump the tires. Then I see they didn’t set my break cable back properly so I need them to adjust that. A simple tube replacement and they underfill the tires and leave the break cable too long? Crazy to me.
So I leave again, and what do I see hanging on the complimentary bike repair station out front? A pedal wrench! They never mentioned that I could do it myself outside.
I have a family of 4 and I was going to buy a bike rack from them. I bought 2 bikes from the Westwood location in the last 4 years. I would have bought pedals, the new neck etc and a new seat today if the service had been good. Instead, they have lost 100% of my future business.
On a positive note, sales guys seem OK, and there was a dude I think named Drew who was helpful. But the service guys lack any social skills and truly a slot like servicing your bike is a huge chore.

One time, the mechanic here didn’t know how to measure the length of spoke that was needed for a new wheel build. I brought in my current complete wheel and the new rim to be used. He had all he needed to calculate spoke length, except the knowledge.

Got a new frame (from a different shop) that needed the headtube «faced» so that the external headset would set onto the frame perfectly flush.
Westwood’s price is 5 times higher than John Henry Bike shop.
I shutter to think how much Westwood would charge for «re-​tapping bottom bracket threads.»

Service price is extraordinarily high at this shop, mechanic wasn’t knowledgeable either.

I just wished this shop could be as good as the N. Van shops since they are closer, but I will go to N. Van for my bike services.
