This place is a hidden gem! Although their dining area and store is not aesthetically appealing, their baked goods is the best I’ve tasted in my entire life! I know they’ve been in business for over 20 years. They have definitely built up a loyal customer base because this bakery is a local favourite, and every time I come here, the owners and workers always chat up a storm with the customers. I don’t know what is it that they use for ingredients in their baked goods but it is top notch quality! Their bread is soft and fluffy and it can sit out for 3 – 4 days and it won’t harden. Other bakeries that use cheap ingredients, their bread turns rock solid by the second day, but not the case with bread from this place! Prices are on the higher end considering I can find buns for less than $ 1 each, but if you purchase 6 buns you save on tax. Besides their bread, the egg tarts are what I always come back for! Many people pre-order from them because it is that good! What’s also nice is that they sell dim sum, HK style breakfast and lunchboxes for a reasonable price all day. I absolutely love this bakery. I am surprised they haven’t ventured out to open more locations.

This is my go to bakery for chinese buns, egg tarts, cake, lunch, and yuanyang(HK style coffee and tea) The cakes are awesome. My fave is the mango cake and Tiramisu cheese cake. The mango cake is their most popular cake and rightfully so. The mango is sweet and the cake is nice and soft, and not too sweet. You should order it in advance to avoid disappointment. The Tiramisu cake has a rich coffee flavour. You can’t really taste the cheesecake, but for those coffee lovers out there, this is a must try!

6 buns for $ 6.20 taxes in. Pretty standard all around. I was tempted to get the macarons which were $ 8 for 6 but I held back. Just like Jennifer K. said the macarons were very small and only just slightly larger than a toonie. I’d rather pay more and get the good stuff. Kerry’s Macarons is just in the next plaza and you can get the real deal there. The place is very small and there are a few tables usually taken by old Chinese people drinking tea and reading the paper. Its their local hang out I guess and maybe 30 years down the road that would be me :) The buns are nice and freshly made. Love the giant almond cookie that I got for $ 1. Light and crunchie just like it should be.

This is one of my go to Chinese bakeries! They have great whole and individual sized cakes, such as mango mousse and blueberry cheesecake, which were the first things I had from there. It wasn’t until recently that I tried a lunch box item and their buns. Their items are priced slightly higher than what you may be accustomed to, but at $ 3.99, their macaroni in soup is a steal and comes with your typical coffee/tea drink. Been meaning to have breakfast there in true HK style! I’m definitely going to have a Portuguese and flaky egg tart(thank you for the reco!) to go along with my meal!

Pretty good desserts for an Asian bakery. The prices are very good for the desserts offered. Mango raspberry mousse $ 3.50 Mango mousse $ 4.00 Tiramisu $ 4.00 Mango chocolate mousse $ 3.50 It was delicious!!! My favorite was the raspberry mango mousse. The great thing about the desserts were that they weren’t too sweet. Demolished these desserts with enthusiasm. Its got some light cake in the mousse so gives it some bounce. Very Asian in that sense! If you buy 6, no tax! Cash only.

Their egg tarts are fabulous. The phyllo pastry type(so pay) it would be a mistake being in this area and not dropping in to buy a batch!

Amazing egg tarts! They also have Portugal tarts and 3 types of egg tarts — flaky crust, butter crust and egg white tart. All of them are good but I prefer the flaky crust egg tart and Portugal tart. They also serve food as it is also a café. All day breakfast was good. The Mango cake here is very good as well as they have slice of mango that layer the entire cake. Wanted to try other buns but people were buying them by the dozen so when we had limited choices when it was our turn. Will be back next time for sure

I went there in high hopes that the macrons would taste amazing and fresh. I was very disappointed when I bought them and found out they were the total opposite. They are very stale and not fresh at all. The prices aren’t very cheap considering the quality of the macarons. Three small macarons cost six dollars. Although I didn’t get any of their other pastries, I dont think I will be returning to that specific spot. If you want a good, fresh macaron, I do not recommend this place.

After trying to find macarons near my area, I came across cake view(through Unilocal). Went there recently to try their macarons; not the best but decently satisfying for $ 1.30 per macaron. The macarons are small enough to finish in less than 3 bites. Tried the raspberry, vanilla, and chocolate(they only make 6 flavours in total) but would only recommend raspberry and vanilla. Coming back at an earlier time of day to try their pistachio macarons-they ran out last time!

One of my friends told me this place offers macaroon. So I came by today and picked up half a dozen. It’s not a real macaroon imo and a I’m a touch disappointed because I still have to get my macaroon fix down at Yonge St. My bf who’s not as picky as me made a fair argument and said if I ignored it as being a macaroon it actually tastes fine as a dessert. I guess he’s right? As I was there for a tea break I ordered chicken wings, bf ordered a French toast. For $ 3.95 my chicken wings and fries comes with a drink so that’s a steal if you asked me. This place reminds me of those tea places in HK where the food is cheap, fresh and quick. I will definitely come back to try their Chinese menu(written on the walls only).

This is my Go-To place for French-Chinese patisserie. I used to live in Paris so I’m a very picky Mademoiselle when it comes to cake and cookies. Apart from the Chinese-style chicken pies and egg tarts, I like the fruit mousse cakes, the fresh mango cake and the French macarons. If I lived nearby, I’d go everyday and be as huge as a Goodyear blimp!

Long overdue review on Cakeview Bakery & Café! I frequent this café almost everyday for breakfast and for snacks in the afternoon :) It has become a local’s favorite place for cheap good eats. Staff are always quick on their feet and work very efficiently aka extreme multitasking. This café is quite busy most of the time. They offer all day breakfast, you can even order items off the afternoon tea time menu during breakfast time(unlike other cafes that are so strict!) They stay competitive by keeping prices low. There are so many returning customers everyday. Food quality and quantity are very consistent(some items can be consistently bad lol… aka beef brisket dishes, and french macarons are not quite up to par, sorry!) They offer a variety of Hong Kong styled good eats and always come up with new products to sell — whether they are buns, or new cake flavours. Recently discovered their NEW crème brûlée tart #yum! The staff talks a lot and can be quite loud lol. Sometimes you just can’t help but eavesdrop on their funny conversations hehe… I find their service… still not great BUT getting a bit better! I remember a few weeks ago, I got myself a pineapple bun and sat down to eat(you can pay at the counter once you finished your meal). The waitress quickly came over, offered me some napkins, and asked if I wanted anything to drink :) What happened before was once you sat down, they take their sweet time to come over and ask if you would like to order –_-” so glad that was fixed! Keep it up, Cakeview! P. S. Anything pork chop related is really good aka pork chop bun, pork chop with rice/noodles dishes… can’t go wrong :)

My personal favourite egg tart in Toronto is located near Finch and Midland called Cakeview Bakery and Café. I cannot recommend anything else there but the freshly baked egg tart is pretty awesome! Some people say the egg to tart ratio is slightly off… I say they are crazy! It’s the golden ration! Puff pastry in every bite! Nom nom nom! If you can’t handle something awesome, then you don’t deserve this awesome egg tart. There is an easy method to tell if it is a good egg tart or not. Just give it a shake! If the middle doesn’t jiggle, then your egg tart is just a squiggle. Well that was my panic attempt to rhyme. It probably made no sense! The custard centre should be happy, perky and raised above the tart! If it is sad and depressed looking, don’t eat it! Friends don’t let friends go near depressed egg tarts!

This was my first stop in my hunt to find macarons close to where I live. I went there around 1 – 2PM and it was quite lively in there. There were several people seated and several employees running in and out of the kitchen to serve them. They had 5 flavours available at the time and I ordered one of each. They are quite small but at only $ 1.10 each, who’s really complaining. It really is a hit or miss with these macarons. Most of them were stale and hard. Only two of the five were perfectly soft. The flavours and sweetness aren’t as strong as other places(ie. La Bamboche). On the plus side, despite being busy, they were all very friendly. I’d go there again for a quick fix(as it’s less than 10 min away from me) but I’d rather take the 20 min drive and go elsewhere.

Thanks to Jennifer K’s review, I went here for macarons! Pastries all looked good. I got one flavour each of lemon, pistachio, raspberry, coffee, and vanilla. They were small, and a bit on the sweet side. Two of them were stale and crunchy, the other three were alright. Service was very friendly, the woman pulled out the macaron tray and let me look at them all close-up!

Cakeview Bakery & Café is located in the plaza at Midland and Finch right next to Vietnamese Noodle Star. Good place to go for some dessert or HK style milk tea after your phở fix. It is really a HK style Western Café and a bakery all combine together. This place is really small… if you do eat in, you do have table services but you will have people walking around you buying cakes or using the tongs to get their Chinese buns. The tables are really tight together so it is really in and out place not for a leisure place to slip your tea and enjoy your pastry. The pastry/dessert/cakes here are more westernize VS other Chinese bakeries and the prices do reflect that. Piece of cake starts at $ 3.00 and the Macaron at $ 1.10 a loonie sized piece. They are a tad more creamy and sweet and rich than typical Chinese bakery pastries but nothing compare to the European ones, hopefully, praying they will not be as fattening. The macaron is small and you can kind of pop them in your mouth while you writing Unilocal reviews and don’t even realized that you just ate 6 of those. yes they are quite tasty! Breakfast starts at 7:30AM and have all kind of specials. I might come in for a quite pick up of some milk tea or pastries when I have the cravings! They accepts Cash only!
