Lunch Special for $ 4.99 that includes home made soup at Dongguan Style is a great deal! 8 different items to choose from. Stir Fried Beef Noodle in Black Bean Sauce was A-OK. Freshly from the wok and decent portion. My waiter at first forgot my soup, then he brought me a whole pot! The soup was really good, «Cantonese» style which I drank them all! So what is Dongguan Style? Dongguan is a city of GuangDong. According to Wiki, it is «China’s Sex Capital», so for dinner and late night, this is when this restaurant comes to life? Love the Izakaya like area in the front where one can order cheap Chinese beer($ 2.75 for a pint) and snack. The dinner menu is kind of eclectic compares to other Chinese restaurants I been to. Seal and Matured Chicken with Dried Mandarin Peels Soup? I definitely will be back for some lunch specials… or maybe a beer some time?

There is a new restaurant in Miliken and it replaces the old Newland BBQ Square, seemingly overnight. I live near the place and didn’t even know this restaurant was coming around(No name, ads, or anything). Dongguan Style is a restaurant and lounge that looks like crap on the outside but very nice and warm inside. The interior screamed sushi bar to me, but they specialize in Chinese cuisine of the Guangdong province. There appears to be a separate bar from the dining room(not entirely sure, just a glance), and also appears to house some karaōke as well. The restaurant is connected by a hallway to Miliken Bar and Restaurant and face each other’s entrance. Free Parking in the back. We were pretty hungry, so the two of us ordered way too much. Ordered up «Smelly» Chicken wings, Dongguan Chow Mein, Dongguan Style Chicken, and Baby Bok Choy with Garlic. The service was friendly as they’re fairly new and the meal also comes with free soup and«tong sui»(sweet soup for dessert). There was also a 10% discount for the«grand opening». The«Smelly» Chicken Wings($ 5.99) must be one of those badly translated Chinese names. Maybe they meant«aromatic» or «fragrant». Instead, they have«Smelly». Regardless, the chicken wings themselves were just your normal run of the mill chicken wings that you get from any Chinese takeout. I will say that they did a good job of keeping it crispy and were not greasy at all. Really did enjoy the non-grease, but they are just deep fried crispy chicken wings. Flavor was normal and it comes with a side of ketchup, though I would have preferred some Sriracha(yum). The Dongguan Chow Mein was a massive dish for $ 11. The noodles were cooked very nicely as the outside noodles were crisp and the ones within were soaking in sauce, but were not soggy. This is their version of the special Cantonese chow mein as they threw on chicken, beef, mushrooms, broccoli, scallops, shrimp, etc. The sauce was rich and the toppings were coated, but I felt the meats were bland. There was no real kick or seasoning prevalant on the toppings nor was there any subtle hint of it. I dig the portion size and the noodles, but they need to amp up the toppings, especially the meat. Dongguan Style Chicken($ 14) is a chilled Chicken dish surrounded by garlic, ginger, and green onions. The sauce is a thin sesame oil based soy that I found tasty. The chicken was good and I enjoyed the sauce that came with this dish. The meat was tender for chilled chicken, but the skin was a bit too gelatinous for my liking. The portion appeared large, but there was not much meat on this half chicken. Taste was wonderful though. Baby Bok Choy is one of my favorites and I enjoy it much more at home then out in restaurants. Nonetheless, we ordered the dish and we thought it was good. Cooked so that the leaves were tender and the stalks were a bit crunchy. The garlic wasn’t powerful but provided a hint of it as you ate through it. Good vegetable dish to have. Overall, good restaurant that I think can get even better. The place was relatively empty when we were there, but we rather enjoyed it. The interior is nice and it would make for a nice«date» perhaps. This is probably assuming it stays relatively hidden, before the Asian community hears about it and come to invade. Welcome to Miliken.
