One of if not the worst run grocery stores in Toronto. As others have said, don’t even bother coming in for sale items, just price match somewhere else if possible. They NEVER have stock. Cash lines are also ridiculous even at off hours… Tuesday at 11am looks like Saturday afternoon at Walmart if half their cashiers called in sick.

Definitely not the place you want to come to looking for sale items. Unless you come Saturday morning your out of luck. It always seems like something is broken down. Warn you to check the dates on your goods since half the time the stuff on the shelves is already past it. If you want anything i suggest you go a little further along Lawrence to FreshCo the produce is fresher and the goods are up to date.

I don’t know why, but every time I come to this Food Basics I feel like Woofy who sits patiently by the table, just waiting for dinner scraps. If tomato on the vine is on sale, all you’ll see when you enter are the vines… Where are the tomatoes damit?! If a whole chicken is on sale, you will see a sloppily scribbled sign that says«Whole Chicken Sold Out» but perhaps we could interest you in purchasing some boneless, skinless chicken breast at $ 5.99/lb. NO! I wanted the WHOLE chicken at $ 5.99! Nothing worse than the whole lure you with specials, and then you show up and they’re like«Surprise… we’re all out of chicken.»
