Tippet-Richardson Limited

After having a very bad experience with another popular moving company six months prior to this move, we were wary of using another moving company.
We booked two guys for a day to move our belongings, and though the team was late in arriving they made up for it by sending an extra guy free of charge. The moving team was friendly and efficient, and they managed to get everything moved in half the time as the last company.
Everything was moved into the new house with no damage and no fuss. We will, of course, use Tippet-​Richardson again for our next move.

I had a terrible experience with Tippett-​Richardson. I moved from Toronto to California and it was awful.
First, the estimated delivery date was 6 – 10 days… our stuff arrived in about 24 days. The movers were 45 minutes late to pick up our stuff in the first place. Once our things arrived in California there was damage to our TV, box spring, and kitchen table. They packaged our flat screen TV in a mirror box, but still proceeded to charge us for a TV box, which was more expensive. They also over charged us for the entire move. check your bank statements!
I would not recommend them to anyone.

Seven years ago I didn’t have a lot of lead time for my move so I had to get a generic mover, after that experience, and since I had to store my stuff for a few months I decided to pay a premium price for what I thought was a reliable mover Tippet-​Richardson.
First, the dude on the phone recommended 4 guys which costs more but it would be a faster move. One of the last things we moved was my bed, and they had to take it apart a one man job while the other 3 chilled on my dime; I estimate that cost me over $ 100 extra. They also estimated the time back to their storage facility which I had to accept cause I had no clue. After the move I looked outside my window, the truck was parked down the street in front of a tavern, It was a beautiful day and they stopped in for a cold one on the patio. I had no problem with that but, was this also on my dime?
Months later I get them to move my stuff out of storage to my new place, i asked for 3 guys this time. The move was pretty quick and easy, about an hour. One of the guys asked me if he should put my bed together. I said no, because it was a snowy day, and although they put runners on the floor, my bedroom has a white carpet, and also it would prolong the move and add to the bill. Or so I thought. When they finished, the bill is presented and they told me it was a minimum 4 hours. Well why didn’t they tell me that at the beginning?
As I am settling in and moving stuff around, and cleaning furniture etc. I notice scratches an nicks in almost every piece of furniture. They did have blankets and they shrink wrapped everything so how did this happen? while the truck was moving? Now this damage is not something you can claim because it is essentially cosmetic, but of course your expensive furniture doesn’t look so expensive. Also there were dishes and glasses broken; some of it was my fault in what I put on the bottom of the box, but I bought 300 feet lot of bubble wrap, and I think they tossed the boxes around.
Given that I paid about $ 3000, including storage costs I am extremely pissed at the service that I got from Tippet-​Richardson, I think I would have been better off getting any one else. The only good thing I can say about them is that they will pretty much move you when you need to be moved. But the generic novels I used 7 years ago nickel and domed me for narrow stairs etc, and they took a lot lot breaks, at least they did not damage anything.
One more thing I wanted to get something out of storage, an made an appt; I changed my mind and canceled a day before, they dinged me for $ 40.

I recently did an in-​town move with Tippet-​Richardson, and came away fairly satisfied with the experience.
T-​R is pricey, but they’re sort of the blue chip, name-​brand of movers. I wanted a hassle free move with no chance of being shaken down for extra money at the end of the move, so I was willing to pay the extra to be absolutely certain that I was dealing with a legitimate company.
They sent a very nice employee out to do a survey of my stuff and give me an estimate, which they guaranteed to within 10%. He explained the insurance and mentioned that it wouldn’t cover anything they didn’t pack themselves, so I made plans to move my computers personally.
I had a 2-​day move because of the situation in my new home, and the first day went fairly smoothly. The movers were funny and hard-​working and careful with my things. They did warn me that the insurance didn’t cover anything that was MDF, at which point, I started to wonder why I had insurance at all, given that they wouldn’t cover most of my IKEA furniture, and I had to move my electronics (including some that were in their original boxes, with all the styrofoam intact) myself, since they wouldn’t cover that either.
They were a little late arriving on the second day, which was somewhat frustrating because I only had the elevator reserved for a 3 hour window. But they moved the last items in with 17 minutes to spare on that window, so other than the 45 minutes of nervousness, it didn’t cause any problems.
The second half of the move went fairly smoothly, as well. Things were delivered quickly and carefully, and nothing at all was broken or damaged in the process. I did find it kind of hilarious that they kept asking me where to put things, when pretty much every box had a color-​coded label on it with instructions telling them where to put it.
In going through my stuff afterwards, I discovered that my brackets for my wall unit had not been delivered, so I called T-​R. I was transferred to dispatch and left a message, but didn’t receive a return call. I called again the next day, and was told that the drivers had searched the truck and they didn’t have the brackets. It was suggested that the brackets might have been left behind (I knew they weren’t, because I saw the mover pick them up, say ‘can’t forget these’ and take them to the truck) or that I might need to look more carefully for them in the new place (I’d already looked carefully for them twice). Eventually he agreed to have the driver call me, which accomplished very little, except the driver agreed to look again, and finally did find my brackets, where he’d put them amongst some of the moving pads. T-​R arranged to have another of their drivers bring them back to me the next day.
So, everything has turned out well in the end — all of my things are in my new home and in one piece. For the price I paid, which was over $ 1000, I guess I’d have liked them to show up on time, and return phone calls promptly, but those are, at worst, minor complaints.
