Salon + Spa roxx

My husband had made massage appointments for us. A deep tissue for him and a prenatal for me.
Upon my arrival the front desk staff nonchalantly greeted me and the other staff at the front continued to stand around chatting amongst themselves. I was asked for my name and if I had an appointment. I gave my name and let them know I was in for a massage. All the girl had to say was no, there is nothing in here.
I asked about my husband’s appointment, when she also stated that there was nothing and our names nor phone numbers were even in the computer. I asked if there were any appointments for the rest of the day. She said no.
There was no offer of another time that evening, nor the next day. She just stared blankly at me. There was no apology or sorry there must be a mix up. Let me check into this.
I understand these things happen occasionally, but to miss two appointments completely and not even apologize or make an offer to rebook is just plain poor service.
I am disappointed to say the least.
The front staff need some serious service training, I can’t comment much past that since it was as far as I got.

I can’t give a review on the salon itself but I sure can on the customer service on the phone. I was referred by a friend who has been going to this salon for a while. She told me to check out choose so I gave the salon a call at 10 am on September 17 whereupon I was told chloe was in later that day. The day passed and I never heard from her so I called back today September 18 and mentioned to the receptionist I hadn’t heard anything and she was very unfriendly on the phone saying she was booked solid the previous day and made it seem I was inconveniencing her on the phone and said she would chloe to get back to me which she did about 20 minutes later. She wasn’t apologetic about not calling and I was interested in the salon as I heard the prices were reasonable but she was wanting to charge $ 30 more then I thought. no thanks I’ll stay where I am.
These girls really need an attitude check.

After much consideration, I’ve decided to write a review on Roxx.
I’ve rated Roxx 2-​stars (though they are not far off from 3 stars) for a few reasons and it primarily has to do with my experiences with one stylist in particular. There were three key situations and I will note two of them: I typically try to arrive early to appointments, usually 10 minutes or so. Hey, you never know if your stylist is running ahead of time, right? When it was 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I approached reception and asked if my stylist was running late. I absolutely *hate* tardiness, but hate more when an establishment isn’t professional enough to communicate with their customers (upon their arrival) that their stylist is running behind. My concern was brushed off and I was told that the stylist should only be a few more minutes. When my stylist finally came out to greet, there was no apology and her acknowledgement was ‘I don’t even know what time it is.” My time was not valued at all.
The following appointment my stylist was not late but she greeted me with one of the worst criticisms I have ever received. It was in direct relation to how I looked. I was completely shocked and truly at a loss for words. To make matters worse, this was done in their front area with 3 or 4 other customers in earshot on the couch. At the time I was going through complete and utter despair in my personal life and the stylist’s words could not have come at a worse time. Couple this with (me) an overly sensitive individual on a good day — well, hopefully you get the picture. Following her comment, I think the stylist picked up on my demeanor once I sat in the chair and tried to make light of what had been said — but I was extremely quiet and didn’t embrace the forced conversation that followed. After the experience, I never booked with that stylist again.
Part of me is regretful that I did not inform management of what took place with this stylist but at the same time, the comment made was hurtful and embarrassing.
I flopped back and forth as to whether or not I would return to the salon. I knew that I would see the stylist at some point and if I was sitting in another chair, it could be awkward. I decided to continue to give Roxx my business. I tried another stylist and unfortunately it didn’t work out. The stylist was timely, never any issue with tardiness, but I never loved the cuts. I then tried someone else and although I was extremely happy with the cut, we had issues with the colour. Not the stylist’s fault at all, just a bad reaction to the brand used.
We have had a couple of questionable children’s cuts, too — so I do have to sit back and evaluate the skill level of some of the stylists that Roxx has. I now have three or four stylists that I would not use again.
I have used the spa services and have had two great pedicures. Great job, ladies!
Child care services are amazing — I don’t use them anymore because I don’t need to, but the caregivers really go above and beyond. If I rated the child care alone it would be 5 stars for sure.

great place, friendly staff, kids love their haircuts

I absolutely love this salon. I’ve had some bad hair cuts in the past so I thought I would try roxxs salon and spa out even though the prices were a little high for me. And I can say roxxs did not disappoint me. I have been going for almost two years now and rarely will I go to anyone else to get my hair dyed or cut. I usually go to Paige who I think is a fantastic hair stylist. I would recommend anyone to come to roxxs as I think you get what you pay for :)

The problem with Roxx Salon is the prices, not because they’re ludicrous, but because they often don’t live up to the name. While I do enjoy their salon, their stylists are incredibly talented and have given me some of the best experiences, I’ve had some very bad experiences in the past, echoing past reviews of the front end staff and their failings, a few months ago I had an appointment during the poorer Alberta conditions; roads were covered in snow, barely able to get to Sherwood Park, typical Alberta weather. So of course, we call on our way over, trying to make sure we can indeed make out appointment.
We’re told, no problem.
We get there, sign in, are told to sit down, given water. About ten minutes later, we’re told our stylist can no longer do one of our appointments, because of time restraints, would we like to rebook?
We were maybe ten minutes late.
I think not.
So, unfortunately, while one wouldn’t be disappointed by stylists, for the prices you will pay you expect some accommodation, which you will not receive from their staff. Disappointing for their price tag, I think.

Front counter staff are the first and last point of contact at an establishment like a hair salon — which is exactly why it is CRUCIAL for these staff to be properly trained on how to handle unusual/​difficult customer service situations. I find all too often that front counter staff are pretty good at handling the day to day customer service interactions — throw a curve ball at them though, and, more often than not, they completely drop the ball!!!
I am currently growing out my hair and only require a trim and some touch ups every 2 months or so. Since I absolutely love the more dramatic cuts and colourings I have received at Roxx, I didn’t mind too much coughing up the $ 65 bucks for a trim to support a business who had been good to me thus far, so after procrastinating for way too long, I decided it was time for a trim. On Friday morning I call them up to book an appointment for 4:45pm that day.
I work literally across the street from this place; so by the time I left work at 4:30 and got to Roxx it was 4:32. I checked in (even mentioning that I knew I was a bit early) and then proceeded to take a seat (on the couch right in front of the front counter). At about 4:45 or so, another lady walks in to check in for her appointment. Immediately after she checked in, the stylist I ALWAYS am assigned to comes out, immediately recognizes the woman, and takes her to the back for her appointment. Thinking nothing more of it than it being interesting that I wasn’t getting the same stylist as normal, I continued to wait.
At 4:55pm (10 mins past my appointment time), I go up to the front counter staff to ask what the delay was — again keeping in mind I am sitting right in front of their faces so it’s not like they didn’t know I was STILL WAITING! My question
«soooo, is the stylist just running a little behind or???» took the young lady completely off guard as she immediately agrees with my assumption with a look of bewilderment on her face; «oh yes, just a bit late, shouldn’t be more than another 5 mins.» I go back to sit, as the same lady walks past me saying «you know what, I am just going to check.»
She comes back to tell me that it is going to be another 15 20 mins (keeping in mind it is already 15 minutes past my time). At this point it was quite obvious that someone had screwed up somewhere along the line and the appointment scheduled for after me was taken before me. This is not the problem — these things happen and I can understand that (being that I have worked in customer service my entire career so far).
The problem is that I am now completely frustrated that you had wasted my time when I would have loved to be anywhere but there on a sunny Friday afternoon. An apology is nice, and she really did seem to feel bad. But here’s where it all went wrong:
Her: «Would you like to wait?»
Me: «No, I think I’m just going to cancel»
Her: Ok, would you like to re-​book?“
Me: «No thank you»
Her: «Ok, well sorry about that.»
Since I am not one to make a scene in these types of situations, I am quietly thinking ‘Dammit, now I need to find a new hair salon.” Had the nice young lady come clean, told me that they had made mistake, and had she done something to make up for it (discount, no charge for the wash, anything…), I would have said, «yes, I’ll wait» or «sure, I guess I’ll just re-​book for next week.» Instead, I will likely not be back.
We have all heard the saying that actions speak louder than words; in this case, (im)proper customer service training speaks louder than a fancily decorated salon.

I went here for the first time and it will be my last. I had originally asked for a senior styles and given a name of who was to cut my hair.
When I arrived i was greeted by 4 ladies not sure who it was I went with the first one that greeted me (silly me).
As this girl was cutting my hair I began asking her how long she had cut hair and said a couple of years (2) well right away I asked her if she was a senior stylus and said no. I asked for her name and it wasn’t who I was referred too. i was very upset but gave her the chance to cut my hair as she had a great disposition. I then asked if she can do the style I showed her the picture and said yes.
Well, the rest is history.
I am so disappointed with this place and will not return. In fact I will give them the same service they gave me. I will promote their carelessness and unprofessionalism and hope that all future readers of this appt. don’t get mislead by the flashy environment as that’s not what u will show in public to others.
I give then one star, as they are one poor facility that’s not worst our money.

Such a beautiful interior! Perfect for a spa day or just a little «spoil me» time! The staff is fab! They have childcare too! This is a HUGE bonus.

I never know what to do with my hair, so I tend to let the hairstylist take charge of my cut. Overall she did a good job, I really like the cut. I would definitely go back.
The atmosphere in the place was great. I really liked the modern style of the salon.

Didn’t review last time, so I thought I’d review based on the last two experiences at Roxx.
My partner and I decided to check them out for a full spa day the first time based on a bunch of our friends saying how great the place was. We went for a 120 minute couples massage, then both of us getting manicures, then myself getting a microdermabrasion and my partner a haircut and colour.
We were greeted, taken to our beautiful lounge area, and we changed into our robes, had some wine and waited for our massages. Our 2 massage therapists brought us to our room, which was lit with candles and smelled really good. We both got an hour and a half massage, which was UNREAL. Both massage therapists asked us what style of massage we preferred and if they should target certain areas — PERFECT. I got a combo deep tissue/​therapeutic massage emphasizing my shoulders and back, while my partner had a therapeutic massage focusing on his back. We got whole body treatments, but they did spend more time in the areas we asked for. We had a blast with them — we laughed and talked and had so much fun, on top of the massage.
The manicures following were great — I’d only had one before so I’m not a connoisseur but again we had fun with them while we had a really cool manicure, with hot wax and a hand massage with scented oil etc — awesome.
My partner went for a cut and colour after and it looked GREAT. I had a microdermabrasion which felt amazing the next day. My skin glowed and we both felt like a million bucks.
We had such a great time that day we booked for another 120 minute couples massage 2 days ago. PHENOMENAL. We had a couple mimosas in the lounge before going into another fantastic massage.
This place is awesome. Do yourself a favour and either book yourself in, or treat someone to it. What a great experience. We’ll DEFINITELY be back.
