Over the Top Cakes Designer Bakeshop

I ordered 12 dozen macaroons for my wedding tomorrow. Half were supposed to be blue and the other half yellow to match my wedding colours (blueberry and lemon) my mom arrives at the set up with a mix of purple and yellow macaroons! I am beyond livid that no one bothered to double check that they should have been blue for blueberry flavor. So everything in my reception matches expect for these purple macaroons. I went to over the top cakes because I thought they would do a good job; they’ve always come highly recommend; but how they could screw something so simple up is beyond me. If you want it done right for your wedding; go somewhere else.
Reply to Comment: That is true my Mom picked them up and paid for them; but I made the order and was with her when we both placed the order. I didn’t have a specific shade of blue as we used different shades of blue in our décor. So I specifically asked «what flavor’s do you have in the colour blue» and I was told ‘Blueberry’ was one of them; and I decided to order blueberry based on that. My Mom picked them up the day before my wedding and just doesn’t have the type of personality to complain like that; she drove down to my venue on the South Side of Edmonton; where I obviously hit the roof. by that time is was noon the day before the wedding; and when she called to order more she absolutely did say the colour was wrong as everyone overheard; whoever was on the other end of the phone at your store said that nothing could be done. Obvisouyly I would have perfered for you to fix your error; but its an hour drive to St. Albert from our venue and the person on the phone said nothing could be done at that point. I had enough stress the day before my wedding without my Mom having to stop helping me set up and drive essentially 2 hours to get new macaroon’s. So we just left it; I mean what could we really do? My wedding was the next day? I asked what flavor options were in the blue tones and based on what we were told placed an order for blueberry; I don’t apprechiate the insinuation that this was somehow our fault or miscommunication on our part. I really don’t see how we are to blame; I guess we should have kicked up a fuss earlier and wasted my wedding set up day waiting for new macaroons.

The Cakes are all exquisitely made with beautiful artistry and flavour, and the cupcakes are also works of art with endless moistness and taste.

I must leave another five star update for the fabulous ladies at Over the Top. My son and I just had our birthday (1 and 31, yay us!) and we had a Doctor Who themed party. Rather than try and band out a TARDIS cake myself, I decided to leave it to the pros who did such a stellar job with our Adventure Time wedding cake. Again, with very little direction, we got the perfect cake to complement the theme of the party. Finn kept laughing and clapping his hands when we saw it; that’s pretty high praise from a one year old.
Not only was it gorgeous, it was delicious. We got tuxedo, and both the vanilla and chocolate were to die for. It’s taken all my willpower not to have it for every meal since Saturday. All her party guests loved it, and kept asking where it was from. When I said the same bakery as our wedding cake, most people said, «Ah, that explains it!»
Now, up until party day, we had a pretty rotten week, so when I was surprised with a dozen mini Adventure Time cupcakes for my birthday, it made my day. It came out of the blue, and was one of those things that was totally not needed, but made me so happy. Little things like this are what makes a business stand out in my mind, and I find that stuff like this is getting harder and harder to find.
Over the Top is going to be making all our special occasion cakes for as long as they are in business.

My best friend has ordered a few cakes from here and every cake has been amazing! I remembered eating left overs from their wedding and groom cake a few months after it was frozen and it still tastes the same.
For my big 30, she ordered a barbie cake for me. I am amazed how perfect they make their fondant. And their buttercream… Loooove it! Their cakes are always classy and are always well put together. Thanks ladies!

Checked out over the top cakes today for some cupcakes. I’m a pastry chef myself so I like to see what the competition has to offer. I got 4 different flavours. I like to eat the bottom first for flavour, density and consistency. It was good. Better then some of those cupcake places on whyte ave. They were pretty pricey. Four cupcakes were $ 15. If your looking for a yummy treat I would recommend them.

Dispite having a car coming in to say hello to their shop, they still have the most delicious treats around. Very fancy, and literally over the top! Thank you for being here OTTCDB! Keep up the great work!

The cake looks good as it well decorated, But really the cake when I ate it is a big disappointment. I would rather go to Save-​on-​Food and get the red velvet cakes. I tried the other flavors too and none of them are good. Just like the other comment that the cake is too dry which is true. I find it too rich and too sweet Good thing that I tried their cup cakes first in the store before ordering the big cake for my son’s birthday.
The price is OVER THE TOP. Though I don’t mind paying for an expensive cake as long as it taste good, but their cake doesn’t pass my taste. I don’t recommend this bakeshop. I will not go back there and would go somewhere else.

Very disappointing! Me and my friend went and each got a cupcake to bring home for that evening. She texted me and said hers was terribly dry. Mine was just as bad. Icing was disgusting too. I am a lover of cupcakes and this was one of the worst I’ve ever had! Very dry cake. Would seem not fresh and at least a couple says old!

I got one of their slab cakes for my birthday, and it was incredibly disappointing. The buttercream was supposed to be raspberry but had very little flavour. The fondant decorations were dry and cheap looking. The cake was dense and extremely heavy; one of my friends described it as being like a block of concrete.
Going by the other reviews on this site, it sounds like they do really nice cakes if you shell out for a custom design. But they apparently can’t be bothered to put much effort into a more ordinary order.

Our wedding cake from Over the Top Cakes can be summed up in one word: YUM! Seriously, it was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever eaten. All night people kept telling me how much they enjoyed the cake, and I have to agree, they have it down to an art.
The consult appointment we had at Over the Top was one of the most enjoyable wedding planning experiences we had. Getting ten different types of cake to try? Awesome. They also do incredible cake design and execution. Their online portfolio is highly impressive, and the cake they helped us design was equally matched in taste and aesthetic. The women in the shop were friendly and polite, and very easy to deal with. Their delivery was on time, and the cake was set up and waiting for us when we arrived at our wedding reception.
I thought our cake was lovely, with only minor criticism. We had designed our features to be brushed with a satin-​pearl finish, and I was hoping that the pearl effect would have been more noticable than it was. The pearl brush-​on also ran down the front of the cake a little bit from our monogram. I am sure I am the only one who noticed, but when paying a premium for a designer cake, I was expecting perfection. That being said, our cake was a beautiful show piece at our reception and an even more delicious dessert. I hope I can visit the shop again for another special occasion cake, or to grab a cupcake to satisfy a sweet-​tooth craving.

Stopped in here a few weeks ago after having found them featured on a website I frequent. The girl who helped me was very nice and polite and gave instructions on how to get the most out of the cupcakes (bonus points that they actually keep them refrigerated and not in open air, unlike some other places)
Cupcakes were awesome — real buttercream, not too sweet, moist but not oily. Definitely one of the best places I’ve been to.

I stumbled upon a local cake and cupcake shop yesterday while in the neighborhood.
I decided to wander in and take a peek and was super impressed by their beautiful display cakes. The atmosphere was bright and elegant. They had a room off to the side that looks like it is used for tastings. I uploaded pics of their display cakes — be sure to check them out!
Their cupcakes were $ 3.50 each or 6 for $ 19.50. I decided to pick up 2 cupcakes to give them a try: mint chocolate and raspberry lemon. The cupcakes were the most beautiful I have ever seen in person. We are usually a Fuss cupcake family and frequent Fuss about 6 times a year — I thought it would be smashing if I could swap our regular Fuss for a local Mom & Pop shop! I think the price was about 50 cents higher than we pay at Fuss regularly; however, I am glad to pay an extra 50 cents for great quality!
The lady behind the counter was super nice and recommended I let the cupcakes sit out for about an hour before eating them — the tip was much appreciated!
I also eyed their gorgeous S’mores cupcake with a graham cracker on top and the Red Velvet looked divine. They had all kinds of flavors I would like to try like Pumpkin Spice and Canadian Maple!

1 hour later, as suggested, my hubby and I loved our special treat! I did find the Mint chocolate to be a little moister than the lemon based cupcake — perhaps a day fresher? I’m not sure what the foot traffic would be like in my neighbourhood — I cannot imagine it would be all that busy.
My hubby and I both agreed that we liked both the cupcakes better than FUSS and the buttercream was the best we ever had!
I think this will be our new cupcake place but it is good to note they are closed 2 days a week… I think it was M, T but I will have to double check that.
I would probably be inclined to only purchase 2 or 3 at a time rather than the 6 we usually get from Fuss just because I’m not certain of their foot traffic and doubt they are baked fresh daily and a half dozen cupcakes will usually last my hubby and I 3 – 4 days.
