A few years ago I came to this place when I had space for bonsai and felt very at home. I met Tak and his wife and a couple of the workers. Tak made me feel very welcome and his wife talked to me about acai berries which at the time were become a fad with the young yuppies and hippies. I am really sorry to hear about what happened with the stolen bonsai from John’s review below. This is truly unfortunate and I cannot even think what kind of people would stoop so low as to steal bonsai cultivated with so much love and which is the livelihood of a man and his family. This is really unthinkable and speaks to me of the lowest of the lowest society. I would suggest this bonsai store to everyone and have also told friends about it since then. I hope people have a little more respect for Tak and his family and the plants he works very hard for. When I was last there it was very clear to me that this is truly this man’s passion and it must be incredibly heartbreaking to have to go through such vandalism and experience such disgusting behaviour in your own neighbourhood. Truly beautiful shop and a wonderland for anyone interested in bonsai.

i came here fully prepared to spend whatever the price for the bonsai that caught my eye and captured my heart and i found that here multiple times to my surprise, however when i decided to take a few pictures to show my significant other(whose opinion on this investment matters just as much as my own) i was yelled at «NOPICTURES!» i politely apologized and continued browsing though i couldnt shake the negative unwelcome feeling i had. i couldnt figure out why an establishment with such beautiful, amazing offerings could be going out of business, now i think i know. very disappointing to say the least. edit: also coming on here and seeing pictures taken by other reviewers has me quite confused. edit 2: after some research i discovered that this place was broken into 6 times in 1 month with $ 65000 worth of bonsai being stolen. now i know why the staff would be suspicious of someone snapping pictures, i would be to. what a shame that people would steal such beautiful art crafted over such a long period of time. that being said if the staff had just talked to me they would have known that im a beginner enthusiast with nothing but good intentions its very unfortunate but i cant blame them considering these recent events.

Lights were all off. Snobby, indifferent reception and spectacularly poor service for a place with price tags between several hundreds to a few thousand dollars per item. I would not recommend this establishment.

I have never seen so many bonsai trees in my life… indoors and outdoors there are row upon row of perfect little trees waiting for someone to take notice. I just received some beautiful house plants and wasn’t in the market so when I left empty-handed another customer stopped to question me and sing the praises of the place and its owner Tak Yamaura. He told me how wonderful Tak, a Japanese horticulturalist and Bonsai master is. He told me you can take a course there to make your own bonsai and that they give you all the tools and training you need to make your little bonsaI a happy one. The place is worth a browse if you love trees… and what Vancouverite doesn’t? You’ll see tiny twisted trees and ones as old as 300 yrs… prices flow between $ 40 and $ 20,000 for some of these remarkable creations.
