Aroma Bakery is just like most other Chinese bakery, serving such familiar classics like egg tarts. But I came here for their lo poh banh(aka. ‘Wife cakes’). Since the good pastry shops in downtown and east Chinatowns closed down, the ones remaining that do make wife cakes make lousy ones. Hence I started looking for a place that makes wife cakes that is as good as what the Chinatowns used to have(or what I had in San Francisco). A little birdie(ie. Unilocal) told me to try Aroma. If you are here even just for lo poh banh, you will not be disappointed. It’s the way it should be: pure soft and chewy, sweet, and definitely not burnt nor with odd bits in it. It’s worth the trek to Scarborough, but I shouldn’t have to go to Scarborough to get my wifey fix. {TTC: any 85 bus or the 21 to Sheppard and Brimley, then walk north. Aroma is housed in the rear end of a small commercial building right beside the railway underpass on the east side of the road. The building itself has probably seen better days. Plenty of parking at the back.} NOTETOSELFANDYOU: They do have other locations as well, like one in Splendid China Tower mall across the street from Pacific Mall on Steeles Ave.

This is a great bakery. Yes I have to agree with Alfred the area around the bakery is pretty ghetto but the pastries are so good. I love the cakes. I have to agree with Jennifer on that one. Especially the tarts, yummy. This is not helping my diet

This quaint little family owned traditional Chinese bakery is a hidden gem. In a sad decrepit strip mall, at least there is always parking. Ignore the ghetto nature of the area because this bakery offers the best traditional Chinese treats in Toronto. They have plenty of flaky pastries with lovely and adventurous fillings. A few notable things to get: –egg tart: I love the flaky pastry and sweet custard filling. one of the best«dahn tats» around –their wife cake and husband cake which are flaky round pastries with a slightly sweet filling are lovely. the pastry is flaky and crisp the way it should be –chicken biscuits«gai jai beng» are a sweet and savory treat that brings back memories for me and are exactly how I imagine they should taste

Cantonese cake and pastry shop inside a small mall. Ordered a large birthday cake in advance and had no problems whatsoever. Good cake.

Cantonese Pastry Shop that has a brand name that slightly resembles Hong Kong traditional brand. It does provide some of the same traditional Pastry favourites that Southern Chinese enjoy and use for some of the more traditional celebrations. There is quite a selection of WIFE Cake, Husband Cake, and more Flaky Pastries where some contain sweet interiors while others have a mix of savoury and sweet. These items line one side wall display cases while the other is the usual Chinese Bakery Buns and Cookies. While it is an excellent place to get those more Specialty Pastries, I find that the regular Bakery Buns and Cookies are slightly higher in value just because the sizes are less generous than others of the same genre.

I love their«wife cake» very much, at least buy 6 everytime. They have a choice of «original» and«less sugar» I prefer original taste. My hubby like the banana roll, there’s choice of plain or with red bean paste inside, both is good. Since I love traditional chinese bakery, so I like this place very much.

If you want to try out traditional Chinese pastry, Aroma Bakery is the place to go. When you enter the parking area, you would already smell the aroma of freshly baked goods… All their pastries and cake are all baked in house. They are famous for wintermelon cake(wife cake). With a flaky layer outside and wintermelon a little chewy inside and not too sweet. They also now has a husband cake which is salty instead of sweet. There are also seasame ball with red bean, chinese big sponge cake, tiny little BBQ pork/Curry Beef/Ham and Egg buns. They are all smaller sizes than the other bakery. But they tasted so much better as there is a better balance between the fillings and the bread. If you have really sweet teeth, you will be a little disappointed as most of the sweets are not as sweet as the western/european counterpart! CASH only!
