Blo Blow Dry Bar

My girlfriend has used blow on King West a few times and called yesterday at 5 minutes to closing and booked a blow dry for today. Unfortunately she was not able to make the appointment due to a family emergency and called them first thing this morning when they opened to cancel. They said do not worry about the appointment and she would not be charged. Then later called her back two hours later and said she would be charged due to a policy even though she called 5 minutes before closing yesterday and called as they opened this morning. They said they could not do anything and said she could come in later but she was on the opposite end of the city. They said they would check with the manager and see if she could get a credit for the session. Another person called back and said she would get an appointment later and charge her card today. She booked for the next day. Finally she received another call from yet another person that they needed her credit card again and she told them she was on the highway driving and they insisted they needed it within five minutes before they close. she told them she would not pull over on the highway to give them a number. she explained that She has an appointment tomorrow and could do it tomorrow but the manager insisted she needed it today within five minutes to charge it today. she told them how difficult this has been today and called by 4 different people with different stories and that she would NEVER go to another BLO ever again because of this one location’s customer service. She has always used BLO at all locations but has NEVER been treated so bad/​rude by one location and because of this she will never go back again and will tell all of her friends what happened. As this business gets bigger they seem to be getting worse with customer service. I can’t see them getting her back as a customer or supporter again. After I wrote this review for her, I read the recent reviews of this location and you can see that management/​ownership needs to make some changes in order to bring it up to the service level of the other BLO locations.

I am currently at the blo in the path. My appointment was for 5:15. It is now 5:40 and I am still sitting here. I would leave but it is my birthday and I need my hair done… I am also being ignored by the 2 stylists, no apology, nothing.

Very disappointing experience. I always do my hair at home and since it was my birthday, I decided to get a standard round brush blowout, nothing fancy. I told my stylist (who told me she wasn’t even employed at Blo anymore, she was just doing someone a favour by working that day) what I wanted and she told me that a standard round brush blowout would not be achievable on me because of my hair texture. I’ve had a round brush blowout at other salons after a hair colour with no problem. During that hour I felt like she was miserable, rushing through my blow dry and burning my scalp with the blow dryer. I left hating my hair and all sticky because of the large amount of hairspray and product she applied, I felt like I had to shower. I ended up fixing my hair at home before going out for dinner, but I could have easily done it at home myself for free and enjoyed how I looked. Never going back.

This place really is dreadful. I asked for a blow dry with round brushes (resulting in big curls), which is my normal request for blowouts. The stylist refused to use the brush size I request and the result was a stick straight blow out (easily achievable at home).
Moreover, the stylist (Simona) was very rude, and didn’t even respond when I said, «how are you?»
This place is seriously complete crap and a total waste of money. This is my fourth visit, so shame on me for returning. Lesson finally learned.

Came here a few weeks back for a blowout the day before a wedding. The lady greeting me who happened to be my stylist wasn’t very personable and I felt like she wasn’t really listening to what I had asked of her. Having very thick, curly and frizzy hair I said I’d like it quite sleek and a flat iron to be put through after, as a bit of humidity instantly ruins my hair. She seemed to mask the poor blowout by trying to overload the products using a clay and a tonne of hairspray. In the end it didn’t feel smooth and sleek and I had to partially restyle it the next day. Considering I went to Flaunt 2 weeks prior and had a blowout that lasted 5 days and still looked amazing, I won’t be in a rush to return to Blo.

Sadly, this location has suffered major staff turnover, new management and lack of skilled stylists that you really have to be careful whom you let style your hair.
I’m astonished at what they’re calling a blow dry these days.

She’s rough, and all her blow outs look like they’d been rough dried, she rushes through it, the hair is not smoothed over, it’s really inadequate, like straw? Does not listen to a word I say.
I’ve asked that she smooth my hair twice now, and each time she called another stylist to finish the job?! What tha???
Every time she’d done my hair, I would get a headache. Simply said, she doesn’t not know what she’s doing. Retraining needed.
Sad, because this was my go to spot for years.
The price has increased, it’s no longer cheaper to go here vs. hair salons, so good bye it is!

Alright, I HAVE to write this review because the past reviews are not a reflection of current reality. This place is super cute, staff was super friendly and were able to accommodate my friends and me from out of town. I went having very little expectations after the reviews but I was extremely impressed. I think the negative reviews were from old management. You have to give the place a shot, my hair looked amazing!

Um… well that was disappointing.
For $ 43.00, plus tip, I expected a salon experience, or better. I would have even settled for something as good as I could do by myself at home!
This was my first trip to Blo and it reminded me of when I was a kid and my dad had to do my hair. Complete with the questionable techniques, hair pulling, roughness, sloppiness and an end result that made me want to hide. I didn’t even get to pick my style!
They were polite and nice, but it appears there are no pro’s at blo. Just chicks off the street with zero education or prior experience who just do your hair like they do their own at home.
I have my friends, or evidently my dad, who can provide the same service for free.
I’ll stick to the salon. It’s cheaper and professional. What the actual heck?!? So upset.

Worst service of my entire life. After being seated 30 minutes after my appointment, I was left to sit with wet hair while the hair stylist was on her phone about her New Years plans in the corner. I was also left at the sink with wet messy hair so she could text her boyfriend for 5 minutes– I was being totally ignored for a full 20 minutes after my 30 minute wait to get seated. So, I grabbed my coat, brushed my wet hair and left. She was still on her phone when I walked out– didn’t even realize I had left. I went today for New Years Eve and booked an appointment well in advance. The last time I was here, I was made to wait for 30 minutes too but my stylist was attentive so I didn’t complain. This is unbelievable. I am currently doing my own hair for New Year’s Eve, at home now.

I don’t know why this particular location has gotten such poor reviews. I’ve been to (including this location) 4 different Blo Blow Dry Bars and this one by far is the best I’ve experienced.
It’s the biggest; the staff were friendly; the owner even gave me a complimentary hand massage while I was there to promote some products she carries on the side; I was asked if I wanted something to drink (which doesn’t always happen at other locations); and my blow out looked amazing.
I would definitely come back to the King West location for a blow-​out. For those of you who haven’t been the concept is simple — for a wash and blow-​out $ 39.55 (incl tax) you get to choose from their standard menu. There are a few updos on the classic menu, but those with short hair will have to go the non-​updo route as their updos require pretty long hair. If you want customization or a specific look it’ll cost you more.
You’re usually in and out within 45 minutes. I always go to Blo whenever I need my hair done for a fancy occasion.

I won’t be coming back here. This is the first time I tried a «blo bar» service, and I don’t see why I would get it again.
The girls who took my appointment were very nice, though no matter how many times I reminded her that I had booked a head massage, she forgot. At least I didn’t get charged for it. But I literally reminded her about 4 times, and she still didn’t do it. I think she didn’t forget — I was the last appointment of the day and she wanted to leave.
Anyway, an hour later I had hair exactly as I would have had it at home after 10 minutes blow dry and 10 mins straightening. I was hoping for the salon-​slick and soft feel — nope. Just blow dried and hair sprayed. Nothing special.

sucks sucks sucks. Rude, not capable of doing standard looks let alone a few tweaks to menu provided. I tried two locations just in case the first one was an isolated experience. Unfortunately it wasn’t. Blo people — please check out Alli Webb from Dry Bar in the states — she’s got it right — multiple visits, multiple locations all with a great experience! Maybe she can bring Drybar to Canada and buy out all Blo locations…

VIBE — KING AND BATHURST LOCATION
Blo salon is a great concept: you can come in for a quick blow out and don’t have to pay exorbitant prices or wait like at a regular salon (okay, you wait a little bit. Keep this in mind if you are in a rush and give yourself time between the service and the event). Their marketing is playful and catchy (should you subscribe to their newsletter) and their salon is modern yet sleek. Lots of pink and white. Fun music and fun staff.
SERVICE
Friendly and quick service. I’m not used to paying $ 40 for a blowout but they did such a good job and curled my hair. Those curls stayed in tact and became a pretty loose wave the next day. I got many compliments. Should you have a high profile event you’re attending, this is the place to get your tresses done.

P. S. It sucks to hear about the service at the Bayview location. Ouch! I think a lot of the locations are different. I would go back to the King St. location no problem.

Lindsay s. — That’s just George. He walks around like he runs the place and isn’t very good at doing hair. There’s no tension in the brush, so you know that as soon as a little moisture touches your hair (read: humidity) however «fabulous» he made your hair look will be gone.
I know. Because I worked there. It’s also poorly managed by the owners. Who should be audited. Seriously. STAY AWAY!

Sue me, I had to go with the most obvious and most cliched tagline.
Meet Blo. The concept is cute + bubblegum pink + chic. According to Canadian fashion mags, it’s Toronto’s first blowout bar — a walk-​in one-​stop place that meets all your (glorified) blowdrying needs. Personally, I got swayed by the fact they explicitly state that you’re not cheating on your hairstylist — something I would never do. I adore my hairguy, he is a hairgod. It took a little more than a year but I finally decided to give it a go. Here’s what happened.
They say you get a fabulous blow out for about $ 30 in about 30 minutes.
But really you get a good blow out for about $ 45 in about 40 minutes.
I’m okay with the fact it took longer, but $ 37.29 is the bottom line. Now add tip.
A simple shampoo and rinse minus a scalp massage.
I didn’t get final product or finishing touch.
They have several different styles to choose from, including updos.
It was fun.
My hair looked good.

The final word, however, is that I think it’s too expensive and not as refined as it could be. No frills may be the way to go than blo.

I pass this place every day on my way to and from work and I’ve always been curious. But I was a little hesitant about trying the place because of some negative Unilocal reviews. Yesterday I had the day off and thought I’d give it a try! I think it was on a pretty slow day because I was the only person in the place. The woman who did my hair was nice and she took her time and my hair looked great too! I got exactly what I asked for and had a pleasant conversation along with it. I had a fairly positive experience and I’ll most likely be going back!

This is a good cheap place to get a blow out. I was happy with how my hair turned out. My only complaints are:
THE CHAIRS… They are hard plastic and extremely uncomfortable. I’m all for the Barbie pink girlie style that Blo goes for but does it have to feel like I’m sitting in an actual Barbie chair that a kid would have? The décor was done pretty cheaply but I get the concept they were aiming for.
UNDER STAFFED… I was given an appointment time but had to wait quite a bit past the time I was scheduled. Luckily for them, I’m laid back and wasn’t in a hurry so it wasn’t a problem but I would have rather been told that they were running behind so I didn’t rush over there only to sit around and wait. I feel bad though. There was only one person working at the time and her job was to answer phones and schedule the appointments, do the Blo-​outs, and sell product to anyone that happened to walk in. It seemed too busy to only have one person doing all of those jobs. In all fairness though, the real culprit for the time delays seemed to be this woman who was fussing over her hair even though I thought it looked great, she kept complaining and asking for it to be fixed which probably made her appointment go over the time it should have taken. Another woman who had walked in and wanted to buy product was waiting around for a long time to be helped. If I were her, I would have walked out because it took forever for her to get some assistance.
INTERROGATION LIGHTING AT SHAMPOO BOWL… If I’m feeling like I need to be wearing sunglasses while I’m getting my hair washed indoors, then the light is too friggin’ bright! What warrants having such bright lighting at the shampoo bowl anyway? Do you really need to be able to see every flake of dandruff while you are washing someone’s hair or ??? because I felt like I just got attacked by the paparazzi and was seeing spots after sitting at that shampoo bowl from hell and I even closed my eyes the whole time… The mediocre massage I was given didn’t even begin to make up for that torture!
Anyway, overall a good experience here and I did discover an amazing new product here. It’s called Mane Teeze by T&M Haut Mess Hair Perfume. It makes your hair smell heavenly. I’m so glad I decided to buy it. I scoured the internet for it later to see if I got a good price and I’m thinking this is the only place that sells it. If I had talked myself out of purchasing it, I would have been sad. Will definitely be back to buy more when I run out.

I decided to go to Blo before my company Christmas party, and I had an interesting experience.
The inside of the salon is really cute, and smells great. It has a nice vibe to it, although the receptionist was a bit snobby towards my friend and I when we booked our appointments.
It was really busy the day that I went in because there were a lot of Christmas parties going on in the area. We decided to head to the salon early, and it’s a good thing we did.
When you book here, it doesn’t seem like you book with a specific person. The girl who did my hair rushed me (I know it’s a quick-​service place, but come on…) and it was obvious that she just wanted to go home. She was rough when washing my hair and burned my ear with a hairdryer when drying me. I asked for the «Holly Would» style because I have a lot of thick hair, and I thought it would suit that style well. What I ended up with was NOTHING like the picture in their menu. I was really unhappy with it, actually. It was teetering on the edge between bad 80s prom and 6 year old dance recital.
Like I said before, the girl who did it clearly just wanted to get home. After she «finished» me, she threw on her coat and ran out.
As I watched my friend get her hair done by a much nicer stylist, I decided that I would ask her to fix me up a bit. I was told that my curls would fall a bit in a couple hours, but I didn’t have time to wait and see how it would turn out. We were supposed to head out right away!
After explaining that I wasn’t happy, the second stylist was sympathetic to my unhappiness. She agreed that the curls were not done properly and promptly fixed them for me. She was really nice, made conversation and did not rush me at all even though she wasn’t scheduled to do another person right away. I tipped her instead of the first stylist.
Overall, it’s a cute concept but it seems as though your experience will vary greatly depending on who you get as your stylist. I wish it was possible to book with specific people!

Skip this place. Seriously.
Words that come to mind, that breakdown my 30 second ‘first impression’ of Blo Blow Dry Bar:
— bad-​mannered
— unprofessional
— impolite
— unpolished & unrefined.
I was shocked at the lack of professionalism — ‘George’ who answered the phone, as extremely curt & abrupt.
I told him, I was a new client, and was interested in booking an appointment for a Blo-​Out.
He then quickly shouted ‘WHEN” into the phone, and I said anytime. He replied, again, «WHEN».
When I said, again, I was flexible, he quickly replied, «Not until 5pm»
What the eff.
Geez.
I said no thank you, and hung up. (i was actually shocked at his attitude!)
Within 30 seconds, ‘George’ called me back! (call display is an amazing thing …)
And tried to explain that he ‘meant’ to say, his next available booking wasn’t until 5pm.
I could sense he was nervous, as he knew I was not impressed by primal booking technique.
I said that’s fine, but I’m not interested, and ended the conversation.
NOTE: I intentionally called, mid-​afternoon (2:25pm) during a weekday, hoping to catch them during there down time. I would be a new potential regular client, and I needed a bit of direction …
The funny part is, that when they first opened, I called to try and book an appointment, and was instantly turned off by the vibe I got by the girl on the phone.

That’s obviously a farce.
I received this Free Blo-​Out coupon as a gift, and was willing to give them another go.
Big fail.

Now that I have your attention, I present to you my hair dilemma: I have curly hair which after 3 consecutive hot and humid days, starts to feel and look like cotton candy and is a pain to style.
I am not a ponytail everyday kind of girl, but I don’t want to spend the next 2 hours trying to tame the frizz… solution? Blo (w) Bar! The premise is pretty simple: small convenient locations around the city that offer quick and affordable styling without the cutting.
George was my fabulous stylist. He was crazy quick and managed to wash, blow dry and flat iron my hair within 30 mins for $ 30. I want to stress that the service was quick… so if you are used to a relaxing scalp massage during your hair appointment this is not the place for you. George recommended I buy Moroccan Oil to help with my rat nest/​hair and I have to agree it’s a God sent!
I was told that if I was interested I could purchase a «blo tab» which essentially allows you to prepay for 8 styles for the price of 7. In addition to blow dry, they also do fancy ponytails, up-​dos and loose tousled curls.
This place might start to be my new best friend for in between hair cut appointments. I thought it was cute that the receptionist had a t-​shirt that said «Don’t worry you aren’t cheating on your hairdresser». This was good news because I love my hair dresser :-)
