Buk Chon(not to be confused with Buk CHANG, directly across the road) is yet another new Korean fast food joint to appear on the Bloor strip. This place has some AMAZING specials on right now for their Grand Opening. Not sure how long this will last, but they have 4 dishes priced at $ 4.99INCLUDING tax. Bad ass. These are available at lunch as well as dinner time. $ 4.99 dinner, can’t go wrong.(4 stars for this place given the Grand Opening special, 3 stars otherwise) My friend tried one of Buk Chon’s specialities«Jajangmyeon» which is essentially wheat noodles topped with a black soybean paste. I sampled this and it was delicious, but I’ve never tried the dish elsewhere so have no basis for comparison. I stuck to Gamjatang(pork bone soup), a dish I know all about. It was pretty good here. The meat had definitely been simmering a LONG time, as it fell off the bone easily. This tastes delicious but causes some problems as you get all sorts of very small bone pieces floating around. The broth was extremely smooth and tasty, one of the best I’ve tried, but the gamjatang was served quite plainly with no beansprouts nor cabbage and only a small sprinkling of green onion to garnish. I liked that they served the pork bone soup with the purple rice instead of just plain white stuff. Banchan(Korean side dishes) were pretty standard here, I was given 4 — kimchi, cabbage, danmuji(pickled radish) and some kind of marinated tofu strips. You can also choose either soondaeguk(blood sausage stew) or seolungtang(beef bone soup) for $ 4.99 too. Might have to try the beef bone soup next time. Décor was simple, basic chairs and tables, clean but nothing exciting. It’s the type of place that’s perfect for grabbing a quick meal on your own, but wouldn’t be especially exciting for a group dinner venue. The waitress was quick, friendly enough with limited English(just point and nod)
