Having been to several middle eastern /mediterannean places in the city, Chicago Sandwiches struck my eye when the sign mentioned shawarma, shish kebob, and other similar dishes. Despite the strange name, I figured it was worth a try. In short, it is average at best. Their beef shawarma was dry, their chicken shawarma had very little taste, the fries were absolutely bland, and the salad was boring. It took a rather long time from when we ordered until our food was ready, considering(A) we were the only customers there and(B) we all ordered shawarma, which is pre-cooked. Some of us got the shawarma in wraps, others got shawarma dinner plates. Whether served in a wrap or as part of a dinner, it was unimpressive. While the price is comparable to similar restaurants, I’d definitely suggest you go to «Damas», not far away from there, at the corner of Victoria Park and Lawrence. It is the same type of food, but destroys Chicago Sandwiches in every possible category.
