Cube Van For Hire

Absolutely horrendous, unprofessional and slow service. I would only refer this company to my worst enemy. I’m actually annoyed that I had to even give one star.
The moving experience from the beginning was a nightmare. I had told Andy that I had set timelines for when I had elevators booked and I was in a pinch to get a truck at the last minute. I asked if it would be a problem and I was assured no problem. The movers would be at the specified time at the specified place.
Our move involved first stopping at my sister-in-law’s place to pick up some vintage furniture she gave us. It was a total of two small tables, one credenza and a dresser. From her place, the truck was to go to my place to pick up stuff from a 2 bedroom condo that had essentially the equivalent of a one bedroom condo’s worth of furniture. The final destination was a 7 minute drive to our new place.
So these cube van guys came 40 minutes late. Strike one. Actually, if we’re doing strikes, I’m not going to bother because I’ll just lose count. At the same time they arrived, Home Depot delivered 2 palates of hardwood which my sister-​in-​law and I unloaded the 60+ packages one-​by-​one in less time than these jokers took to load the four things I was taking from this first stop. They took at least 1.5 hours to load the four things into the truck. The dresser they DRAGGED down the stairs! They didn’t even lift it up or even protect it with furniture padding (which was in the truck). In the process, they pulled up the nosing on one of my sister-in-law’s stairs and scuffed up the dresser. I immediately called Andy and told him what was happening and he asked to speak with his boys. I expected the unprofessionalism to end at that point but it didn’t. Not by a long shot.
Finally we left stop #1. I gave the guys explicit directions on how to get to our place. Even leaving at the exact same time, they managed to show up a full 15 minutes after I got there. And I was NOT speeding. In fact, I was driving slow to see if I could see them in my rearview mirror – which I never did.
When we arrived, these guys looked lost and confused the whole time. My partner, thankfully brought most of our stuff down to the moving room because when these movers got there everything they did was done so incredibly inefficiently. They didn’t seem to have a concept of spacial perception as they kept bumping into walls and packing the truck in such a way that so much space was wasted. After enduring 15 minutes of their nonsense, we called in the help of two friends. Our two friends, my partner and I did 90% of the loading of the van. My friend took over arranging the truck and the two guys relegated themselves to carrying small bags. Meanwhile the four of us were lugging the heavy stuff around. Without the four people working on top of what the movers did, packing up the truck would have taken 8 hours. And I didn’t have the elevators for anywhere near that amount of time.
Next stop the final destination. These guys did a whole lot of nothing as we enlisted the help of two other friends to unload the truck. Again, most of the unloading done by the four of us with the «movers» doing God-​knows-​what. At one point my friend and I went to unload the last dresser from the truck. We found the dresser in the back of the truck which was completely unattended. We unloaded the dresser and moved it into the building, at which point these guys come up and I asked where they went. They replied «we were just taking a walk to figure out our exit strategy» I.e. Figuring out where they needed to go to to get the truck from out from behind my building. I said that this exit strategy probably could have been figured out after the truck was unloaded to which he replied, «yeah, you’re probably right.» Insert epic eye roll.
In the end, did Andy do anything to compensate me for the damage done, time wasted and the fact that his boys just took a paid vacation on my time? Fuck no. Worst moving company I have ever had the misfortune of hiring.
Never EVER EVER hire this company unless you want a repeat of my epically terrible experience.

someone from the company contacted me regarding the content of my review. in the name of fairness, i reviewed my notes from the conversations i had with cube van for hire. each and every call. everything that i posted is true and correct.

Despite a clear website and A+ rating on BBB, our move with Cube Van for Hire for our move was a terrible experience.
No questions were asked to size up our place or our move, movers got lost and showed up 30 minutes late, the truck had a broken ramp hook (when a glass table was placed on the edge it fell off the ramp and chipped), one mover arrived smelling like alcohol, spent much more time chatting than desired (given we were paying by the hour), asked a family member for a beer (which was unfortunately given him), he stumbled as he was moving, and also broke a bedsidetable when he sat on it. It took 4 hours to load a 1 bedroom, 800 sq foot apartment (and another 4 hours to unload as well). We have a lot of furniture, but 8 hours is unreasonable. Even the second mover was annoyed with how slowly his colleague was moving and apologized on his behalf. When we complained to the owner half way through the move, he said he would speak to the movers and told us he would threaten to halve their pay, (instead of offering to send someone else or to replace anyone) — we told him that would only make things worse. He has denied that he made such a statement, stated that the movers are already paid so little (turns out it’s $ 10−12/hr), and that he was only joking.
When we tried to help to speed things along at hour 4 (we were paying by the hour after all), nobody stopped us (other companies do stop you and warn you about loss of liability), in fact the movers even commented how well we moved things. However, when the mover who had been drinking placed a table on a broken ramp and it chipped, we were held liable because we were helping with the move. (this is in their contract, but we hadn’t noticed) and told they would repair it only if the chipped piece could be found. We spoke with the mover, who said he showed us the piece and put it in a box — he later changed his story and said he put it in a lunch bag in our garage, and when told we didn’t have a garage, said he couldn’t remember where he put it. The company won’t fix the table without the piece. They won’t give money back for a bad move. On a positive note, they have offered to fix the nightstand. However, they have treated us poorly over the phone with raised voices and accusations that we aren’t telling the truth. There are other moving companies in this city. Don’t go with Cube Van if you don’t want to risk a bad experience.
