With two convenient locations in Toronto, DeSantos Premier Martial Arts teaches Tae-Kwon-Do (or Taekwondo). Both locations (Beaches and Riverdale) are owned by martial arts hall of famer Veronica Desantos, a 6th level master in Tae-Kwon-Do and Karate. Both schools combine martial arts training with fitness and self-discovery in programs for children, teens and adults. Our full martial arts curriculum includes taekwondo, karate, kickboxing, and self-defense. Please feel free to call and book an appointment to discuss our programs with one of our instructors.
Historique
Fondé en 1988.
Veronica DeSantos is also known as Kwan Jan Nim, a Korean term meaning ‘master of one’s house’. Born in Prospect, East Bank Demerrara, Guyana, she moved to Canada when she was 16 years old. Working at a successful bank job, she was also studying martial arts and traveling across North America competing in martial arts tournaments. What she really wanted to do though, was teach martial arts. She started out teaching martial arts out of a community centre. In 1988 she wanted to open her very own martial arts studio. Unable to find the money to do so in any other way, she took her own next month’s rent and used it to travel to Boston. There she competed in a martial arts tournament, where only a win as Grand Champion would earn her the $ 5000 prize that would allow her a plane ticket back to Toronto with enough money to pay her rent and open the school. Less than one month later, DeSantos Martial Arts opened its doors and she has been teaching martial arts for over 25 years.

Ms. Veronica De Santos is a 6th Degree Black Belt who has been teaching martial arts for over 25 years and through her hard work, experience and all that she has given back to the martial arts community, has earned the title of Kwan Jan Nim — a Korean term which means Master Instructor or Master of one’s house. Her passion for the martial arts has encouraged many people, young and old, to achieve their Black Belts in martial arts. In 1999, Kwan Jan Nim De Santos was the first woman to be inducted in the North American Martial Arts Hall Of Fame. Having won numerous championships in her competitive years, she was ranked as one of Canada’s top female fighters in 1988 & 1989 and also won Ontario’s Amateur Athlete of the year for the same years. While being a highly decorated competitor, her true passion is teaching and watching her students achieve their goals. She also enjoys teaching self-defense and anti-bullying courses throughout the city for a wide array of organizations.
