I typically don’t shop for groceries in places other than the grocery store and very rarely, Chinatown but I have been noticing the fresh fruits and vegetables that this place is displaying now that the weather has been improving. I just purchased 2 tubs of fresh organic strawberries for $ 3! Steal! That is way cheaper than St. Lawrence Market. I will keep my eye out for similar deals whenever I pass this place again. The inside of the store looks very similar to a Chinatown store setup, with a scale and 1 cashier at the front that quickly processes the transactions. It’s true, there’s no service provided here, and the area where they place the vegetable looks quite dingy but the freshness of their produce and price is what the 4 stars are for.

I’m surprised the mint here doesn’t have a bigger ego because it definitely deserves a superiority complex. It’s shit hot. Firm, velvety and over-the-top full ‘n luscious. I’ve never seen fresh mint like this. And since it’s mojito and tropical fruit salsa season(ask me for my recipe), there’s no better time than to hoard the herb. Extra emphasis on the H in herb. I’m disappointed that I only recently learned of Fruit King’s existence, but I’m happy to have found a herb supplier. If you’re looking for ataulfo mangoes, apricots or avocados, they can be had much cheaper across the street at The Other Fruit Market™ but for herbs and all sorts of other greenery(chicory, arugula, frisee), Fruit King trumps them all and is dirt cheap to boot.

I absolutely LOVE Fruit King. Here’s why: The produce is always fresh and somehow always seems to taste miles better than what I get at big chain grocery stores. Not to mention it’s dirt cheap. I eat A LOT of fruits and veggies, which can get pretty pricey… thanks to Fruit King I can afford to feed myself :) And the good doesn’t stop there. For such a tiny hole-in-the-wall market they still manage to have a great variety of produce. I should mention though that if you’re looking for a fully stocked grocery you’ve come to the wrong place. However, they do carry things are difficult to find in regular groceries(for example, lemon grass… I can NEVER find lemon grass!). And you’ll find other goodies besides fruits and veggies– cheap spices, dry noodles, Asian cooking sauces, canned/jarred goods, dried fruit, etc. As far as service goes it’s top-notch. The cashiers ring-in and bag your purchases at the speed of light. Fruit King is just plain delicious!
