Game and Hobby Zone

I would classify this store as a special hidden gem located underground in the Bloor-​Cumberland Terrace area, away from civilization. The name of their store perfectly matches the type of business they are because they do have a variety of all types of games and hobbies. From board games, cards, jigsaw puzzles, science kits, crafts, and toys, you’ll find a lot of specialty items here. Displayed by the entrance area, they carry their latest promotional toys, which is currently Star Wars and a few months ago, they were also promoting minion toys.
I was iust here 3 days ago to purchase our very own deck of Ammonia cards (a currently popular word game) and I was impressed with how everything in this store is nicely organized by category. In the same aisle where I got the Ammonia game, were other word games and I guess they set it up this way to entice you to buy more, which worked for my case, because I couldn’t resist buying the Story Cubes game, which was within close range of Ammonia, so I unexpectedly left the store with 2 games instead of one.
The staff didn’t approach me to see if I needed any help, but I think that’s only because they respect the customer’s space to browse freely without getting pressured. When I went to pay for my items, the lady I dealt with seemed nice and friendly so I’m sure if you approached them for help or with questions, they would be more than happy to assist you.
The only con I have about this store is that everything here seems a bit pricey. In total, I paid $ 45 approximately for Ammonia and the Story Cubes, which are pocket sized games so I can only imagine how much the bigger games cost. My ideal 5-​star game store would be a place that carries a good variety of games but with more reasonable prices. On the whole though, I will return to this place again for convenience sake since it’s close to my workplace.

Went here looking for a gift for my four-​year-​old. Spent my entire lunch hour looking at stuff for me! I found the plastic model selection a little thin, but otherwise a great store.
Found things to be a little on the pricey side. A small die-​cast 737 for $ 80? Dunno about that.
Worth a browse. Lots to look at.

Cool toys. Excellent service. While the prices here are more expensive than your average department store (Target, Wal-​Mart, Toys R Us, etc.), they have some different and unique toys and the service is much better.
I was looking for something unique for my seven year old niece for her birthday and it was hard to find given that as kids get older, it becomes harder to shop for them. I found an awesome craft set and she loved it. The service here was very personal and wonderful.
If you work in the area, want personalized service, don’t mind paying an additional 10% or so, this place is pretty good.

I love this store! It is one of the redeeming place among weird shops of Cumberland Terrace (which by far is the most strange part of Yorkville, hands down). They have a great selection of toys and games. Their prices can be a little steep but not anything completely out of control. Of course, you might be able to get some items for less at Toys R Us or Walmart, but this place has personal touches, great salesmanship and is more of an independent business. I pay the extra simply for their awesome advice.
They’re also always stocked! They have every Carcassonne expansion set ever made and I love stopping buy to converse with the staff when I’m looking for a new game or a classic to pass the time. They also have some unique toys and educational toys and games, along with your standard stuff. Great shop!

I was excited that I was able to buy Martian Fluxx there. I was somewhat less excited that I found it for $ 10 less ($ 15 instead of $ 25) at 401 Games two weeks later. Good service, but you might want to shop around a bit.

I was again looking for Tamiya paints and heard about this place at Yonge & Bloor. I found it on the ground floor of the mall and it turned out to be a plain old toy store, but when I asked an employee about paints he said the grownup toys were downstairs in their other store. Go back towards Yonge, go down the escalator, and it’s right there.
And there it was, with lots of model kits, board games, miniatures, and a huuuuge selection of paints. I got what I wanted and got out, but I really need to spend more time looking around in there.

Looking for Spongebob playing cards but also a miniature replica of a British canon circa 1832? Both can be found beneath the ground, at the Game and Hobby Zone in the Cumberland Terrace (between Yonge and Bay station).
I went looking for jigsaw puzzles and I was not disappointed. They have loads of them, and not all of them made out of lame pictures of deer in a field or weird half-​naked elfish women (you guys know the puzzles I’m talking about…)
Oh, and it’s a great place for stocking stuffers– they have these really cute Smurf figurines. I wanted to buy them all but stopped myself ($ 5 a pop!)
