Happy Child is where my bf and I find ourselves when we’re looking for a drink but don’t want to stray too far from home. It’s one of the only places in the city where we almost always grab a seat at the bar, which on quiet nights seems like the thing to do. Even though the music is loud(typical of the neighbourhood) the vibe remains intimate. The atmosphere is chic and the bar is almost always full of beautiful people. The bartenders are great, super friendly and attentive, and they always pour the drinks well. I will say I made the mistake one time of trying one of their specials and it was disgusting, but I will not hold them responsible since I was hesitant to try it to begin with due to the particular, experimental in my opinion, ingredients. I’ve never eaten here, so I can’t comment on that, but for those of you who think the prices are a little high, I shall inform you that they do reflect the area. I like the aesthetics of this place, the giant sign and the exposed bar wall give it a nice sophisticated divey feel. Happy Child makes me a happy girl.

Kassandra knows how to make pretty much any drink you ask for and they have some specialty homemade drink mixes. Not the cheapest place, basically a higher class version if a dive bar. Good service, good atmosphere. Thumbs up :)

A slightly creepy Big Boy-style cartoon head is the only signage outside this Queen West dive. The irreverence continues inside, where waiters serve elevated fast food in old-timey paper hats. Suggested Snack Pairing: Surf ‘n Turf + Moonstomp Cocktail. The omnivorous food platter includes a cheeseburger, a lobster roll and a dainty pile of chips. To drink: a mug of wild plum tea spiked with moonshine. Hours: M-Su, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Happy Child, 1168 Queen St. W., 647−748−1599
