Mouthwatering Southern Barbeque and Cold Ontario Craft Beers

Historique

Fondé en 2009.

Back in the 1960s, when Trudeau just got elected as Prime Minister, my father developed a barbeque sauce that became the stuff of legend in my hometown. For many years we sold it at the St. Lawrence Market, and decided a couple of years back to open a barbeque joint in bbq-starved Toronto. We called it Highway 61 because that road, which goes from Thunder Bay to New Orleans, cuts through the heart of barbeque country — St. Louis, Memphis, and Mississippi. It’s also the highway that brought Delta Blues music out of it’s Mississippi birthplace. We travelled down that highway, eating mouthwatering meats four and five times a day. We talked to pit bosses, owners, waiters, who were free and open with their barbeque techniques. We brought what we learned north to Toronto. Highway 61 recently served it’s 100,000th customer.

Gérant de commerce

My father refused to eat meat unless it was cooked on the ‘que. That upbringing had me dreaming for 50 years of opening a barbeque and blues bar in Toronto. After a career as a business executive on Bay Street, I finally got to live my dream, and 100,000 customers later, I’m still lovin’ it!
