I purchased a groupon for a cut, treatment and style by Azar. I was immediately impressed by her professionalism and hospitality. She didn’t rush the whole process and made sure that I got the cut and style I was looking for. Overall, I had a positive experience at the salon and would definitely come back next time.

I decided my long hair had to go. I was very nervous to do it, but I totally trusted Drew as I knew he would do a fantastic job. And I was right. I have got loads of compliments on my new style. Thanks Drew!

I purchased a Groupon to try out this established salon, drawn in by the promise of a
senior stylist and a deep conditioning treatment, and was not disappointed. Azar’s skill honed
from years of experience and learning from the best played out as she gave me the cut and style I had in mind when I came in, with minor well-​advised tweaks, despite my forgetting my to bring my sample pictures to help get across my vision. In addition, her warm, interested, and
patient personality was a big, welcome bonus and enough to entice me to use this salon in the
future. Also, the cleanliness and airiness of the place and the friendliness and warm vibes given off by the staff to clients and one another deserve kudos.

After searching for a salon for 9 months, I decided to trust the rave Unilocal reviews, and make an appointment. My stylist was Azar, and she is amazing!!! She immediately made me feel comfortable, and listened to what I was looking for. I’m so happy to have found a place I’ll be coming back to. Left making sure I made a follow up appointment. Just got my Balyage done by Kathleen and hair blow dried by Drew … :) needless to say feel and look like a million bucks! Kathleen was great in addressing all my colour concerns. Their after-​sale experience is amazing. Knowing how concerned I was with my colour (coloured my hair for the first time), they were so great in giving me suggestions and mentioned I could come back to change my hair to the original colour any time :) Best of all, they are right next to my go to nail salon… Spa Nails!!!

I’m always anxious when getting my hair done. We have all had that experience where the hairdresser didn’t listen to you, and you left the salon feeling upset because you didn’t get what you wanted.
I bought a Groupon for a cut, treatment, and style. The service was lovely, and I got some tea, biscuits, and magazines to enjoy while my treatment was setting in. One of the things I noticed about Kearns was that it was a clean and classy place. It didn’t have that Gossip Girl vibe some other salons have, and it didn’t play club-​esque music. I immediately felt comfortable, and was able to relax a bit.
Jacklyn was meticulous. She made sure she understood what I wanted. I asked for two inches off, and we each measured out two inches to ensure we were on the same page and that there would be no surprises later. Then, she took her time in cutting and styling my hair. I’m really impressed with the level of detail and care in her work. She was also kind and patient, and left me to ponder the magazines while she worked on my hair.
I asked her about balayage because I was considering having it done another time – she highly recommended Aaron, and said he was specially trained in balayage and was basically, a superstar. So for anyone interested in balayage, keep this in mind!
I left happy with the cut – my hair looks a lot fuller and healthier. My only regret is not asking for it to be curled!

i read the amazing reviews on both groupon and Unilocal before i made my purchase. i shouldn’t have relied on the reviews too much before making a decision. i got a treatment and a cut with the groupon. on the day i cut my hair, it looked so silky and neat. but after i washed my hair the next morning, it was disastrous. my hair was a mess, and it looked as if i cut my hair by myself. it was in no way looked neat or groomed. when i go into a salon to get a hair cut, i expect the hair stylist should know how his/​her client hair works, and how it would look even without getting it blow dried. also, it was not silky anymore like how it was the day before. last week i had to go to another salon to get it fixed (unfortunately) and she told me that both sides were not even.
if you are going here to get hair treatment, just buy one of those leave in treatment bottles at drugstores. they do just as good or even better. i would avoid this place for a hair cut.

I am trying to find a hairdresser that can cut curly hair after my hairdresser moved to BC, and I have yet to find someone that understands curly hair.
I bought a Groupon for this salon for a cut, style, blow dry and treatment after reading many great reviews here on Unilocal.I arrived on time for my 12pm appointment on Saturday, and although my hairdresser was not ready for me, the lady at the front desk took great care of me. At around 12:20PM my stylist Kelley came by to introduce herself. I told her what I wanted — long layers — which was what I already had and to only cut two inches. I also told her that I did not want my hair straightened, but rather, I wanted it to stay curly. Kelley then quickly washed my hair, had me sit under a hair dryer for 10 minutes for the treatment, and they quickly proceeded to cut my hair, and I immediately realized that she was not comfortable cutting curly hair. I told her that my hair worked best if cut like a V — shorter at the front, and longer in the back. Unfortunately she had cut it the other way around, and when I pointed it out to her, she tried to fix it. Then she wanted to see it dry to determine if the cut worked, but rather than use a diffuser like I suggested, she let it dry under the hair dryer — which is a huge no-​no for curly for several reasons — it will get freezy and it will not dry evenly, specially with my very thick hair. Then she was done and my hair had not been styled or dried. So as I looked at my freezy mane (top was dry and underneath was soaking wet), I asked for some product and I attempted to make my hair look presentable for my walk home. I was very disappointed by the experience — or lack thereof — and when I looked around me, and at the blond stylist (never got her name) working next to Kelley, I wish I had gotten her because every person she worked on looked amazing, and she took her time styling their hair. Maybe they paid regular price and did not use a Groupon? Who knows. I wanted to ask Kelley to finish the job and dry my hair, but by this point her next appointment had arrived and she had started taking care of her. So I guess she only scheduled me for under an hour? Cause that is how long I was there for.
Overall, Kelley was a really cool girl who tried her best, but I did not get what I was supposed to get. If she had at least used a diffuser like I suggested, I would have at least felt like I had gotten a hair cut and felt the excitement that you are supposed to feel after leaving a hair salon. But instead, I went home to dry my hair, and fix the cut.

I followed the groupon to Summerhill and found myself at a clean and classy hair salon. Every time I had called — when I booked the appointment, when I changed the time, and then when I showed up in person, I was met with good service and pleasant personalities.
My stylist was Kelly, she made sure that I was comfortable with tea, biscuits and magazine… Listened to what I wanted for my hair and delivered.
I enjoyed the experience and I hope to come again!

I was looking to get a shorter, more stylish haircut and had searched through many men’s haircut photographs on the Internet and had a good idea what I wanted. I came upon a Groupon for a men’s haircut and deep moisturizing peppermint treatment at Kearns & Company Hair. I’m sure glad I took it!
It led me to meet Rory at Kearns & Co, who is an amazing stylist and created the style perfectly. He is detail oriented, polite and an amazing hair artist. I highly recommend Rory and I will be returning to him from my haircuts even though I won’t have that added benefit of Groupon. But Groupon did good by introducing the two of us. I’m certain you will be equally ecstatic with your results.

This salon has amazing reviews — I even did my homework and went through the 179 reviews not recommended. My original search was for a professional who specialized in balayage. During my appointment, I did get to do a quick consultation and the gentleman I spoke to definitely seemed knowledgeable and was super friendly. Quote I received seemed a little high but could be worth it because he seemed like he knew his stuff; he will also give you different options within a price range.
Thank you to other Unilocalers who mentioned the Groupon — very useful and appreciated! =) The Groupon is a great deal so I would highly recommend it as a starting point if you want to check out the salon.
That being said — I can only give two stars because the girl who cut my hair seemed inexperienced with curly hair and didn’t have the confidence I needed to feel comfortable. (She also didn’t know what a cleansing conditioner was, which I found odd.) She relied on/​had to confirm a couple of times what she was planning to do with an older gentleman at the salon (not sure if he is hthe owner or not).
Ultimately, I do take part of the blame because she did ask me if I would be ok with taking off 3 inches with no layers and I agreed. What can I say — I have a tendency to trust the professional I am paying! Sigh. The results were disappointing and I don’t usually consider myself too picky with my hair since I usually wear it up (i.e. I’ve done the $ 10 student academy cut before without complaints).
I didn’t bother going back to get it corrected because even if I was referred back to a more experienced stylist (like the older gentleman who was present during my appointment), he was actually the one who agreed/​encouraged my stylist’s decision. Also, I was a bit annoyed because I mentioned several times that I am no longer wanting to chemically straighten my hair and he kept trying to suggest a Keratin straightening treatment.

Fantastic! I have always had long long LONG hair and recently wanted to go for a change. Also, I’ve been wanting to donate my hair for a while now. So I saw a Groupon and some great reviews for this salon and went ahead to book an appointment.
The salon is clean, easy to find, very open and well lit. You immediately feel comfortable. My stylist was the lovely Marjorie, the sweetest Irish girl you’ll ever meet. She took time to discuss my hair and what I wanted and she made sure I was comfortable with everything at every step of the way. She even happily took photos for my before and afters! I ended up cutting over 14 inches for Locks of Love and thanks to Marjorie, was completely comfortable and very very happy with the cut. She gave me choices and suggestions and wasn’t afraid to let me know when something else would work better than what I had in mind. She’s experienced and also wonderful company. I would recommend her for everyone!
I am now happily rockin my new style and the best part is that I love it because Marjorie took the time to make sure of everything before taking the scissors to the hair!
This place is definitely not one of those places that discuss you or rush you away because you have a Groupon. For students like myself, it’s a financial relief to find such a great caring place at such a reasonable price, but please tip your stylist well! :) they really deserve it here!

This review is extremely long overdue, mostly due to procrastination and shock from the change in my hair colour. More importantly this is how I felt about my experience back in mid August:
I called a day ahead for a consultation, as I assumed that’s what I needed. I didn’t know what this was or included; this is the first time I’ve ever gotten my hair coloured professionally. I just figured some commenters said they had a consultation, so I’d follow suit. The lady I spoke to on the phone wasn’t nice; no inkling of a smile over the phone and was only greeted with a «hello?» (I had to ask if I called the right place). When I got there the next day, I walked into the salon and up to the reception and the lady who was at the reception (I don’t know if she was the same person) looks up at me blank faced and high browed. I said I had an appointment and she told me I didn’t. This part isn’t all that important as it involves a bunch of back and forth about the difference between a consultation and an appointment (oops, I didn’t know!). The conclusion was that I got my consultation and Aaron was able to get me in for an appointment shortly after.
This part of my experience gets less than one star (if I could), but I didn’t feel like the whole business deserved to have starts docked because of the receptionist (s)’ poor service.
In a change of heart, everything afterward was amazing and worth the five stars. I received tea and biscuits, was given a detailed explanation of different packages and plans Aaron had for my desired colour. The process took several hours, but Aaron and his assistant/​apprentice (Roham?) were so easy to talk to; I felt like I had known them for much longer. All the other stylists there were also very nice; Jason Kearns said hello very casually, which was nice.
All in all, my experience was great. Of course the parts leading up to my consultation was little to be desired, but it didn’t have a profound effect on the finished product of my hair. I may have not looked thrilled when I had the final product revealed, but it was more out of shock than displeasure (I started almost completely dark). I would definitely recommend Aaron and Kearns & Co.

I loved the balayage look the moment I saw it online, and was in the same situation as Mary-​Anne. Her testimony convinced me that this was the best place to get it done well & I’m here to officially second that opinion! I don’t get my hair done often & was a bit hesitant, but my experience at Kearn’s was worth every penny, thanks to The Awe-​Inspiring Aaron!
He made me feel at ease the moment I entered & it only got better from there! You can tell he loves what he does AND he’s an expert at it! Just watching him blow-​dry my hair was a great experience in itself, can you imagine the actual balayage? All his actions were precise & well-​executed, yet he made it all look so easy! He’s a serious professional & I was getting first-​class treatment, even though it was my first time there! After a brief discussion of what I wanted (I was worried b/​c I’d already had long-​gone/​grown out already dyed hair + highlights), he declared he had a vision that would make it work & I trusted him enough to let him take the reigns, and am I glad that I did!
He made a great call in judgement halfway through, when the colour was a bit more than I expected. I didn’t even have to tell him; he understood the look I wanted & after some adjusting, he was still able to give me exactly what I needed! He was lots of fun to chat with (I could listen to that accent all day!), but he quickly got into «the zone,» and I was happy to let him work his magic. His assistant was quite friendly as he took over some tasks & the rest of the staff were lovely too!
All in all, I’d go back in a heartbeat; not only did I get the hair that I’ve been craving for so long, but I also had the best time! I promise you’ll be in great hands with Aaron =)

My sister and I went to Kearns and Co yesterday and we both had a wonderful experience! We both have thin, fine, lifeless Asian hair and were in dire need for some help. We booked to have balayage done by Aaron and a hair cut by Soo. We arrived to our appointment and were warmly greeted by Mr. Kearns and Jennifer. Jennifer provided us with tea and we had our consult done with Aaron first. Aaron is truly talented and passionate at what he does. He took time to educate us on hair care and gave us many options on how we could colour our hair. He also has an adorable pup named Joey who kept us entertained during the colouring process.
I have to say, the search for a salon that does balayage in Toronto was difficult. Also, some salons in Toronto used ombré and balayage interchangeably which confused me and did not give me the confidence that I would get the results I was seeking. One day, I came across Aaron’s blog and he posted the difference between ombré and balayage which showed me that this guy knows what he’s doing aka legit.
Anyhow, back to our experience Aaron ensured us that we would not get the streaky highlight appearance with his balayage technique and that I would not get the «dip dye» ombré look. They use high quality products because my heavily dyed hair came back to life. Jennifer did part of my hair dye and we had a fun conversation. Soo was pleasant and listened to our hair needs. The end product was two happy sisters with beautiful, voluminous, healthy looking hair. My sister’s hair was beautifully balayaged with her existing hair dye and it looked seamless! I went with a darker slight ombré effect and I love it. At first, I was unsure bc I haven’t had dark hair for 4 years, and Aaron was so nice about redoing my hair or that I could come back anytime if I had second thoughts. But the more I looked at my hair, the more I grew to love it! All in all, we loved our experience at Kearns and Co and plan to be back in the near future!

Earlier this year I bought a Groupon for Kearns & Co. The decision to try this salon was based on all the positive reviews I read on Unilocal.I felt confident that I had made a good choice and looked forward to having a positive experience. Unfortunately, things did not go well, which is why I have decided to write my own review.
THE PROS:
Upon arrival I was greeted warmly by reception and was quickly introduced to my stylist named Soo. I was seated so that we could discuss what I wanted to do with my long hair that fell half-​way down my back (below my bra strap). I had spent the last 2 years growing my fine-​textured hair long and decided I would like to shorten the length by 3 inches (total) and add some long layers for extra volume. My bangs that once looked like Taylor Swifts had grown out and I asked to have them reshaped. I clearly articulated how I wanted the bangs to frame my eyes and face and asked Soo for confirmation that she understood what I was asking for. She said yes, she did.
Soo appeared to be listening attentively to all my requests and repeated back to me what I asked for. We measured 3 inches of length to cut off and did this not once, but twice, so that we were both clear on the exact amount to shorten. I was then taken to have my hair washed and a deep conditioning treatment applied (part of the Groupon deal).
While the treatment was soaking in I was placed under a hot dryer and offered tea & biscuits and magazines. So far everything was going very well and I was feeling comfortable and pleased.
After a final rinse I returned to Soo’s chair and she began cutting my hair. Soo is a lovely woman who engaged in a lot of conversation. She told me she is from Korea and had left a salon in the downtown Toronto core to join Kearns & Co. in December. We talked about neighborhoods and various other topics — including the best cuts for different hair textures. I was given the impression that Soo is an experienced stylist, so I relaxed and didn’t keenly watch everything she was doing. Looking back, this was a BIG mistake.
THE CONS:
I believe Soo went into auto-​pilot mode while she was talking to me and lost track of how much hair she was supposed to cut off. Instead of cutting 3 inches off (that we agreed to and measured TWICE), she cut 6 inches off. Yes, 6 inches!!! To make matters worse, she did a horrible job of layering my hair and left multiple areas jagged and uneven. My bangs were not carefully shaped around my eyes and were so badly cut that I had to go to another stylist to fix the mess.
My fine hair was also damaged in all the areas that Soo used a vertical scissor technique (running the scissors down/​through the hair). This left my hair looking severely frayed and dry. I have NEVER had a haircut with so many different problems to correct in my life!
CONCLUSIONS:
I was told my appointment would run 1.5 hrs but was rushed out of the chair after 1 hr when Soo’s next client arrived. I wasn’t given a chance to discuss my concerns with her because she was so focused on starting her next appt. In fact, she was so distracted that she never offered any finishing/​hair spray at the end — I had to ask the receptionist if I could have some. Terrible last impression to leave a new client.
My hair does not grow very fast so it is going to take more than 1 year to grow out the hacked, frayed, layers on the sides & back. And another 6+ months to grow the 3 extra inches that was removed from the length.
The ambiance of this salon is lovely and the tea & biscuits are a nice touch. But the damage this one haircut has caused me is not worth the Groupon deal and the niceties. I was hoping to find a professional stylist at Kearns & Co. and instead found the opposite. Soo is a very nice lady but her attention to detail and her cutting techniques are sorely lacking. I cannot in good faith recommend her to anyone — especially women with long fine hair!

like other reviewers here, i bought a groupon for a conditioning treatment, cut and style. i wish i could give this place more stars because i realize that my experience may have been uncommonly disappointing, but i am left really regretting my visit …
first of all, the atmosphere is nice, the staff is very friendly and the details are all on point (fresh flowers, tea and biscuits, up-​to-​date copies of vogue, etc)
im sure that the stylists are all competent, and the woman who did my hair (soo) was very nice and friendly and made kind and genuine efforts to make me comfortable (i have never gotten a mini shoulder massage after getting my hair washed and it was really nice !)
unfortunately, while the tea and mini-​massage were lovely, my cut and style was not. i described in advance that i wanted 3 inches taken off of my relatively long hair, and ended up with a bob that barely passes below my shoulders. basically an extra two inches was taken off of my hair and although i tried to make the best of it at the time (obviously this is a mistake that cant be corrected) i am left very upset about my hair being substantially shorter than i had specified .
also, when asked what i would like for the style, i said i wanted lots of body, some piecy texture, and not too straight. she basically showed me the product that she said would give my hair body, and proceeded to blow-​dry my hair completely stick straight — doing exactly what i had asked her not to do. i assumed that she was doing this because she was finishing the last of the cut dry, which she did (for some subtle layering at the front), but instead of proceeding to give me the style that i had asked for, she just left my hair completely flat and straight — zero body and zero texture …
my shock about the length hadnt really sunk in yet so when she asked several times if it was ok, i explained that it wasnt what i had asked for with the style … so she splashed some water on the ends and blowdried it again — which changed absolutely nothing …
i actually feel bad writing this review because she was nice … but the truth is i am so disappointed with the lenghth being so much shorter than i asked and the requests for the style i wanted being completely ignored, i am really very upset about the whole experience

I’m always a little weary of places I find Groupons for, but this place HAS to be an exception. My stylist (whose name I forget now, but was a lovely girl with a beautiful Irish accent) offered me tea & biscuits as I told her what I wanted for my hair, and she was so attentive, clarifying everything I’d asked before she started. Completely satisfied about how my hair turned out. They follow up the appointment shortly after with a phone call ensuring that I was satisfied with my cut, and asking if I had any questions about styling — AMAZING customer service. I would definitely come back here again!

I bought a Groupon here after reading some pretty good reviews of the place.
Some places give off a kind of «attitude» once they realize you are paying with a Groupon but not here at all. The moment I stepped in, I felt completely at ease.
Soo was my hairdresser — a lovely Korean woman with awesome hair. She took care of me so well! Tea and biscuits, like many of the reviews here have mentioned.
I got: wash, cut, style + deep moisturizing treatment. And I absolutely loved my hair at the end of it!
I have rarely ever even «liked» my hair after a haircut. It’s usually too short or not how I envisioned it. But once Soo had finished, my layers looked great and I was in love with my new cut. Not short at all but short enough to get all the split ends off :)
I am definitely coming back here, Groupon-​less next time :)

I came here with a Groupon for a wash, treatment, cut & style. I was appointed with A. She was super nice and moved here from Ireland. She first sat me down and had a specific consultation with me about my hair and what I wanted. This is VERY important as most salons don’t do this and basically tell you what they think you need to get done. I knew I had a lot of split ends and areas that needed major work and once I heard her explain what needed to be done I trusted her with my hair. She washed and placed treatment in my hair which sat for 15 minutes under heat. Her assistant washed it out and A was back to cut/​stlye my hair. What a perfectionist! She kept asking me to uncross my legs, which I realized actually makes a difference when you are cutting hair. She kept going back to make sure it was perfect. I am not one to be picky with my hair cut, but she overall did a great job. My hair feels soft from the treatment, cut was good!
Only weird part was the grumpy older man than checked me out. I believe he was the owner but he did not seem like a happy camper! Learn how to smile!
