Kipling Subway Station

A necessary evil of using the ttc to get downtown. During peek hours, you are better off being dropped off or picked up on the street than trying to enter the parking lot or pickup area. That aside, it’s a late 60s to early 70s piece of architecture where you can get a bus or subway. Wish I could avoid it, but I can’t…

rewind back to the 90s when the blue jays were in domination mode, I remember coming to this station because of the free parking (parents choice) I was always fascinated with how clean and «new» the station was at the time. fast forward today, depending on youre journey, kipling is the beginning or the terminus to the «green/​2/​bloor line» one of the few stations that have bathrooms, a go station connection, parking (free on weekends) and a slew of busses for the Toronto/​Mississauga area. this station boasts a slew of parking and pick up locations (the go station helps) this is actually one of the few stations that has aged well, kinda bordering the mark that its well maintained enough, not to need an upgrade/​make-​over.
the staff here are generally friendly and always willing to help out if you need a hand with something, or some direction. so far as the kiss and rides go, the main area off of dundas st is nuts to deal with, as people often treat that area like a nascar track, and taxis get in the way, or stop suddenly, or forget that its a moving lane.
Also, this location has the infamous pearson express, which for the cost of one single token, gets you directly to one of the terminals at the airport, one way. in comparison to the UP express, yes it will take longer to get to kipling and then up, but the cost savings is there.
a great connector hub to get you where you need to go.

I write this for any family or traveler that might be visiting and wondering if they should/​could safely take the subway. Kipling stations is a great place to «park your car and ride the subway to the attractions.»
The quick answer is yes.
Overall clean and safe. Busy but not overly crowded.
Huge, safe parking lot with reasonable parking rates (very reasonable compared to the US). Subway is clean and from what I can tell, very safe. Plenty of moms, kids, business people, students, etc. Everyone seems to keep to themselves. Very efficient travel to downtown attractions, restaraunts etc. Stations you can travel to all seem to be within walking distance of all attractions etc downtown. About 30 – 35 minutes travel to downtown plus walking. Which isn’t bad when you see how much auto traffic there is and how challenging it is to find parking. I would absolutely do it again to get to downtown locations. Very stress free. Note we didn’t travel at night — can’t asess the safety then.

It’s a pretty standard mass transit type station, that, since I haven’t visited it a *ton* I still get turned around in it. Luckily, Lee is a pro so I just obediently follow in his wake whenever we head somewhere.
It’s clean and functional and nothing spectacular. Lots of parking on the weekends, at least the times I’ve been there.

I have lived all my life in Toronto and all of my life minus five years in Etobicoke. I know this station. I was in Etobicoke before Kipling existed and the most western station on the Bloor line was Islington. Kipling has many advantages over Islington now since it is the most western station on the Bloor line.
Kipling is a hub station being that it terminates the Bloor line. Again, the most western station and the newest Bloor line station you have the conveniences of large parking lots (both on the Dundas side near Subway Crescent, Aukland and the south lot off of Kipling Ave south of the Bloor overpass.
Parking is 5 dollars in the morning I believe. After a certain time in the day it switches to 2 bucks. Coins or a credit card will be taken at the automated gates.
The parking lot at the south side is larger but there is only one entrance to the station while the lots closer to Dundas have the entrance near the Kiss and Ride (passenger pick up area rotary) or the northern entrance on the north side of Subway Crescent. If you don’t want to take a bus from Kipling there are taxis along Subway Crescent. Airport taxi rides from Kipling will be about 15 bucks on the meter or less during no traffic times. The cabbie should take Dundas down to 427 north and exit at Dixon road. This is about a 12 km cab ride.
This station is a busy place and the passenger pick up area is simply not large enough to handle rush hour and prime time for drop off and pick ups. All the western routes leading up to borders routes for buses that come close to Mississauga come here. While Mississauga transit buses do not stop here, they actually go to Islington station which is only about 2 km away at best.
The West Mall 112, the Airport Express bus (192 Express), 111 The East Mall, 191 Hwy 27 Express, 123 Shorncliff (to Sherway Gardens), 45 Kipling, 44 Kipling south, 46 Martin Grove, 49 Bloor West, and 30 Lambton (to High Park via Dundas) all run out of this station basically serving all of western Etobicoke including the airport.
Kipling also acts as a GO station that runs to Union eastbound and west towards Milton.
Being the most western TTC station it is one of the most used stations considering all the extra traffic they will get from west of Etobicoke passengers. Prior to the photoless Metropasses, the Metropass used to open the gate for parking at Kipling but no longer.

The station itself is not the best but its famous! As it is closest to the west end and you can get on the subway from here to go to downtown. They have a convenience shop on site and also have washrooms. This station will fall under Etobicoke and they have bus service to the airport from here as well.
The Go Milton line also stops by here so you have people flocking from in from buses, trains, on foot and is quite busy in rush hour.

Yup, it’s a subway station.
The park n’ ride is large here. Beware the cabbies, they are very serious about where they park. It can be really busy. Lucky everyone has a cell phone b/​c you can be waiting a long time to pick someone up if there are delays.

This is like a mini Union Station that connects the West end to the rest of Toronto. GO trains arrive here, there’s a TTC bus terminal plus the start of the Bloor-​Danforth subway line (which means you are guaranteed to get a seat).
Also, it’s easier to purchase GO passes and presto cards here than at Union because there is never a line up.

I’m a HUGE fan of the Kipling station! Now, maybe because I live in NYC and the majority of our stations are… not so nice.
If I were to translate how objectionable some of our stations are from American to Canadian, I’d say this: …many NYC subway stations are fetid cesspools of moose guts and used hockey undergarments, covered in a brown gravy you can only pray is leftover from making poutine, but you know there’s too much DNA in that brown liquid so you just have to turn your head and shudder and think happier thoughts of Dave Coulier.
So, maybe I’m jaded but I found Kipling station to be a clean, well-​lighted place. The bus transfers are well marked. I agree that the line for the 192 Airport Rocket can get unruly because there’s usually tons of tourists (most likely unsavory Belgians!) with huge suitcases trying to cram on there! However, you can use both bus doors to load so just stand near the rear and elbow your way on. It helps to look for the weakest pack of people so you can intimidate and out maneuver them.
Kipling to me is an efficient and useful transfer point and a great place to start your TTC subway journey or bus ride!

Well kept station on the TTC’s Bloor-​Danforth line, this station is the westernmost station on the line and also serves as a link for those travelling to Pearson Airport via the TTC’s bus service that transports travellers from the station to the airport and back. The station also has buses that travel to western suburbs such as Brampton, Mississauga, Oakville, and Milton. Located in front of newly constructed condominium, with clean facilities and easy connections, this station happens to be one of my favorites on this subway line.

I don’t have beef with the station itself, it serves its purpose — but the 191 Rocket and waiting for the 191 Rocket are reminiscent of a cattle carrier being loaded and shipped off to the glue factory. Waiting for the 191 Bus is not a civil affair, it’s a free for all race to see who can claim the window and upper section seats first. Neat lines quickly become triangles of anticipation as the bus pulls into the diagonal lane and all hell breaks loose.
I have since sucked up and have begun driving and parking in the wonderful underground lot a few hundred feet from the station, my health has improved and I no longer dread the TTC.

Since it’s at the end of the line (west), there’s almost always one or both subways pulled into the station. Huge number of buses that pull into Kipling station. Theres also an ATM machine and little «convenience store». There IS a washroom but I don’t know who in their right mind would actually use it. You can smell that thing from like 100 feet away. Awful.
I’m excited to see the new addition to the station once construction is complete! It’s looking pretty good so far.

This is not a bad station at all. I like that there is only ONE exit, making it easy to meet people as oppose to bigger stations with a million exits *Spadina Cough*.
This station also has many amenities to assist its passengers including escalators (that work!), an elevator and bathrooms. The bathroom are both disgustingly convenient and just plain disgusting! I would rather take a dump on the side of the platform than to walk through that urine oasis (do they ever clean that thing?)
I one thing I wish they would change about this station is the doubling up of routes to one platform. Even before construction began early this year, platform sharing has been an issues at Kipling and has lead to route delays and what I like to call the «Bus to Bus Paradox». For me to get off «bus one» and catch «bus two», «bus two» has to leave as it is occupying «bus one’s» spot making it impossible for me to get it!

How do you feel about Kipling station?
I don’t know! I’ve never Kippled!
Okay, yeah, that’s lame.
The station, for my purposes, is good. It has parking for those of us coming in from out of town, and you can grab a few tokens or a day pass, and head into town.
It also lets you grab a GO train coming into Milton, if you’re lucky enough to catch one of the five heading back at night.
I think it used to have a newsstand upstairs, but I haven’t been upstairs since Frank magazine was being published. And, yes, it has a bathroom. It’s a bus station bathroom. You know what you’ll get. Steel mirrors and a scent from the depths of hell.
But you can catch a subway there. And that’s what’s important.

I think it’s one of the few subways that has a washroom, which unfortunately smells a mile away. With all the construction going on it looks like it’s expanding and they will be adding buses.

This is a busy station. You can connect to GO transit from here and being the end point for the subway you have to get off whether you like it or not. There’s your usual news stand on site, but this station lacks any other options for food. Maybe with the new expansion they’re currently building something will be added.
Look carefully for your bus stop. With the current construction at the station they have been moving some of the stops around and doubling up some routes into the same stop.

Sometimes subway stations are crazy trash filled places, Kipling seems to be one of the better ones, as there is always a train waiting.
I primarily travel here going home, as the train does not run early enough for my «I’m up before God» schedule, but while it always seems to be filled with buses and people it never appears overly crowded. I really only take one bus to and from the airport here, but it is really a mecca of buses heading through the GTA. All the amenities one might need can be found within the 5000 or so square feet that encompass this station. ATM, magazine stand complete with mini convenience store, and washrooms.
While these washrooms do exist I have never personally used them, for some reason I feel like more serial killers hang out in subway washrooms. It’s a bit of a weird fear to be sure. The only thing is that there is never really anyone around to ask questions, and the drivers seem pretty set on ignoring everyone wholeheartedly, but you will assuredly find some good Samaritan to point you in the right direction.
Bottom line… this subway is a mostly crazy-​free entrance into the outskirts of Toronto, possibly housing serial killers in the washroom.
