Historique

Fondé en 2009.

The traditional barbershop was an emporium where men congregated to have their hair cut, faces shaved and fingernails manicured. Barbershops, particularly those in small towns, also served a wider purpose within the community. They were places where men gathered, relaxed, read magazines and enjoyed each other’s company while passing gossip, sharing the latest joke, talking sports and politics and debating the events of the day

The biggest mistake guys can make is to neglect their grooming. Taking care of yourself is important in many aspects… personally, professionally, for the benefit of your partner, etc. Learning about grooming yourself means growing within yourself on different levels. Lets grow together and exchange unique experiences… there’re NO LIMITS!

Finally a barber shop for the modern guy. I’ve been a loyal client of Mankind since my wife purchased for me the Alpha Male package as a Father’s day gift. Also impressed by owner Caleb, the guy knows his stuff and goes the extra mile for his clients.

Thought I’d give this place a try after a friend had told me about it and have not regretted switching barbers. It’s proximity to my place, the two-week complementary clean-up cut, consistency and quality of the service and overall experience are the reasons I’ve been coming here since it first opened. Caleb is really passionate about what he does and really knows how to cut hair. Tip: for those getting their first cut I’d recommend booking online and then book your two week clean up after your cut.

Terrible customer service by Caleb, he does not answer the phone, nor his emails not his voicemail. Decent haircut for the price, but absolutely not worth the aggregation of dealing with such an unpleasant person. The girl (forget her name) that did one of my touch-ups did a terrible job, uneven on the sides and not blended at all.
If the model of one haircut + free touch-up is what appeals to you, check out the Uptown Toronto location (Yonge and Eglinton) of Mankind. This location is beyond subpar, do not patronize them with your business.

Walked in yesterday and made an appointment for today. Arrived a few mins early for my appointment today, stood around for 15 minutes and was completely ignored while other customers came and went, so I left myself. Not even a look my in my direction to acknowledge my existence. Mankind can fuck off.

Great cut, bad experience.
I called and booked an appointment with Caleb and when I showed up, my appointment wasn’t in the system. Upon learning this, I was made to feel very unwelcome. Caleb was standoffish with me, to a point where I asked if giving me a cut was going to be an issue. I decided to stay and did receive a great cut. The overall Alpha Male experience is great, but I couldn’t believe how I was treated as a new customer. He did eventually apologize for the mix up and even gave me a discount, but I was really put off by the initial impression. I won’t be returning.

I’ve been going to Caleb for over a year now and he’s always done a fantastic job with my hair. He has taken the time to really understand what styling makes sense for my (and my hair type) and always takes his time to do a good job.
The entire Mankind experience is one that I believe is unparalleled in the city and their new location is amazing.
