Melonhead is always great with the kids and they do a decent job with instruction. Recommend for sure!

This is the first time we’ve taken my son to get his hair professionally cut; he’s 19 months old. He has lots of hair and has had to get them cut before(he’s had about 5 – 6 cuts already) but up until now, I’ve been cutting them with the help of my husband as distraction. I hadn’t ever cut hair before but my cuts look just as good as the one my son got today at Melonhead(i.e., choppy, jagged, and uneven for the most part). It was less traumatising for me to have someone else do it, but I was hoping for a more precision cut. It took about two minutes for the stylist to finish, which I’m sure my son appreciated since he was protesting from beginning to end, but maybe if they had taken a little more time to even out the layers it would have come out nicer. We’ll try some other place next time and hopefully get a more attractive result.

We gave Melonhead a shot as an alternative to Crazy Cuts on Mt. Pleasant(they give awesome cuts but it is a dingy shop and smells like mildew). I called last minute and they were able to get us in 20 minutes later. However, when we arrive the stylist was less than pleasant, insinuating that we were 10 minutes late(we weren’t)…and the salon was EMPTY so not like it should have mattered anyway. Not sure if she was tired, there was a disconnect because she was extremely soft-spoken and barely spoke English, or was just rude… but it rubbed me the wrong way. Our 2-year-old son was great, but the cut he received was just«meh.» She didn’t use the buzzer so his sideburns are all scraggly… and she didn’t correct it even when I made a comment about it. Basically, we won’t be back and will stick with Crazy Cuts. For a $ 21 cut I was expecting more, both in terms of the cut itself and the attitudes of the staff.

What is it with Kids? Try to cut your kids hair, and you will most likely end up cutting yourself. You might as well stick a bowl on their head and cut around it! The one great thing about Melonhead is that kids will actually sit in the — Race Car, Pony, convertible, or any of the kid themed booster seats. Throw in some Dora on the big screen, and WHAM, you can just about do anything to that poor kids hair you want. Wait, I almost forgot something… they also give the kids candy. What a great idea whoever is responsible for starting this chain(Whitby location just opened) is brilliant! The cost is around $ 20 or so. The hairdressers themselves are good enough to cut a child’s hair, but I wouldn’t be putting Canada’s Next Top Model in a Race Car before a big show! This place knows how to do things right — get the kids to love it, and the parents will pay almost anything!
