Melonheads is 5-stars in several departments: friendly service, décor(brightly decorated salon with character chairs including Thomas), free photo and certificate for the first haircut, free hair accessory and glitter hairspray and most importantly to my little one — free lollipop at the end. However, the quality of the haircut is where it falls to 1-star. I know, they’re toddlers and don’t need perfectly coifed styles. I’m not one of *those* moms who will cry«They ruined her hair, just ruined it!». But I think the hair cut should still be quality — one that is not uneven and looks like I took a bowl to her head and trimmed around it. I had to do some of my own maintenance and trimming of longer pieces when we got home.

This was an absolute disaster. I hesitate to give this review, but the person who cut my son’s hair on a Sunday should not be a hairdresser. It was chopped roughly and unevenly all over. It was impossible to see when it was wet but once dry it was unbelievable. I do not want to embarrass him by bringing him back to ask what happened. Please avoid.

MelonHeads really does a decent job at hair cuts for a big cost. But, the reason to come here is because when you child cries through the whole haircut, nobody will blink an eye. I’d love to take my 2yr old to the hipster salons on Dundas West, but I think crying in the chair might be frowned upon… So for now, to fix mama’s bad haircuts and to get a full trim I usually just drop in and he gets to sit in the Thomas train while he gets a hair cut(and chocolate as a bribe.)

Super understanding and helpful with our seriously anti-haircut two year old! They did a great job even though he screamed and we had to wrestle him down :) Well worth the money.

I have been bringing my 3 year old daughter here for about a year now. The hairdresser, Susie, is very nice and always remembers her. She is also patient and knows how to talk to children(especially when it was her first time and she was nervous!). There are cute rocket ship, pony, Thomas and other chairs for the kids. There are a couple of large flat screen TVs playing kids’ movies, and tons if stickers and temporary tattoos on display. The décor is bright and colorful. My only complaint is that the floor and chairs could be swept up a little more often. Also, pricey at $ 20 plus tax and tip. But, it’s the price for the nice experience as well as the haircut!

I always take my son for his haircuts here. A couple of years ago, I was pretty nervous how his first-ever-haircut would go as he’s a bit wild and was also a bit clingy to me when he was only 1 years old. It was EXCELLENT. The ladies at Melonhead are professionals with kids and there’s lots of stuff to distract kids(i.e. great airplane/car seats, movies on tv, nice bright colours everywhere). Since then, we’ve always returned. My son actually asks if we can go for haircuts now! Highly recommended!

This place is great for kids. We brought our son for his first haircut and it was awesome. I heard of horror stories about your child’s first haircut but with the car, air plane, pony seats to entertain them he didn’t say boo. The stylist cut his hair fast, she was very patient with him since he kept moving to look up at her. The haircut turned out great. We were very pleased. The staff are very nice and love children. We recommend this place if you have children, it’s the place to go!

I wish I was still a kid so I could sit on a pony while having my hair cut. When I was a kid my hair was cut two ways: 1) By my mom, who almost always cut my hair crooked(especially my extremely cowlicky bangs.) 2) By a cheap inexperienced woman with bleach blond hair who once cut my brother’s ear with her scissors(true story). Melonhead’s on the other hand is a super cool place I’d actually LIKE to go to to get my hair cut… and I don’t just mean as a kid. I STILL find getting my hair cut off-putting. Oh, and they play MOVIES! Isn’t that, like, the coolest? …um…say…couldn’t I just try and squeeze into that rocket ship chair? I just need a quick trim…
