Historique

Fondé en 2004.

Sense of Independence opened in October 2004 on Eglinton West. Sisters Naomi and Michelle knew from a young age that they loved fashion and couldn’t wait to make their mark on the fashion world. What started as a single location store has now expanded into including an online webstore so you can easily purchase your favourite items at your own convenience, no matter where you live. With their combined experience, they have created a a shopping environment that has drawn customers from around the globe to get the latest in stylish clothing and accessories.

Bought a coat from them that didn’t fit me well in size, was hoping to return it, but found out their return policy is only 14 days, compared to a standard 30 days. And i was a few days late with my return request, where this boutique completely refused to accept it back. Big inconvenience!

One of my favorite stores in the city! You are sure to find amazing pieces to add to your closet in this cute independent womens clothing store. I have countless dresses from them and get compliments on all my purchases. The girls are friendly, helpful and have great taste! Highly recommend checking them out for your next great outfit!

This is an awesome Toronto boutique and a really fun shopping experience whenever I go. They have really nice pieces that mix and match with each other really well. You can invest in a few articles of clothing and have a ton of outfit options from them. That’s always what I look for — how many ways can I wear this one piece? Their prices are on the moderate — high range (in my opinion), but they generally have really good sales. They also have well priced statement jewellery. I also like that they have their «staples» that you can count on being their each time you go (mavi super skinny jeans, for example). I would definitely recommend this spot to a friend!

One of my favourite boutiques in Toronto! I’m always successful when looking for something there and inevitably it ends up being one of my favourite pieces that season. Their staff are over-the-top friendly and helpful. A must-go boutique!

I live in SF, but frequent Toronto. There are 2 things I must always do when visiting: Eat at Edo Sushi and visit Sense of Independence.
The staff is incredibly friendly but more importantly its a great place to find Canadian specialties, things I can’t always find in the states. My recent find — an amazing Line wool sweater. I subscribe to the SOI Facebook page and oftentimes find myself reviewing their pics. This is how I found my recent gem. Naomi allowed me to buy it over the phone and it’s my friends suitcase coming to SF this week.
The clothes are contemporary and target women of all ages. A must visit for all fashionable women.

This place is great to find a unique article of clothing or a nice gift for someone. The staff is friendly and helpful and they don’t try to push clothes on you. The clothes target the young and trendy (but not overly so) set. Some examples of clothing I’ve found there have been a black pencil skirt with a ruffle down the side (nicer than it sounds), a blue tunic with sequin details and a braided chain necklace — all were under $ 50 on sale. I wouldn’t recommend going on their mailing list though (they’ll ask when you go in), lots of useless emails. Happy shopping!
