SUGARMOON is celebrating its 14^th year! It is hard to believe how quickly times flies. What started out as a labour of love project with a two-woman partnership and a $ 10,000 loan from my mom has now blossomed into an 18 staff member, four store growing operation. I am truly grateful to work with the women of SUGARMOON.

I am totally passionate about sugaring and have trained over 60 people from many parts of Ontario and the United States. We have now opened the SM ACADEMY with training dates posted for most of 2014. This is really an exciting time!

We are very proud to have launched our professional brand of products, along with our Organics Body line and the first SUGARMOON take home kit to allow you to be a successful sugarist at home! Stay tuned we have a lot planned for 2016.

Outside of SUGARMOON, I enjoy hanging out with my lovely kids Elias (12) and Sofia (7), traveling, cooking, playing piano and enjoying time with friends and family!

My first trip to Brazil! Wow. An exhilarating carnival of sensations! I definitely appreciated Lisa’s professionalism and efficiency, she made it much easier to feel comfortable. I’m glad I went with sugaring instead of waxing because there’s no sticky, tough residue left of my skin and I imagine it hurts less than waxing your lady bits… though it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park! ;) I would definitely recommend Sugarmoon and I’m looking forward to the easier Round #2 ahead… with the numbing cream!

Sugar moon is the best place for a brazilian, hands down. I have been waxing for 15 years but it was my first sugaring experience with Desrene. She was amazing. She used great technique and was able to adapt her method as she went along to give me the best results and the least amount of pain. It was all done in less than 30 minutes and it wasn’t nearly as painful as other methods I’ve tried. I really appreciated the fan in the room as well because it cooled me down when I was a little bit nervous. Desrene gave me some great tips on how to prevent ingrown hair and I had very little irritation afterwards. Normally I come away from a brazilian with broken hair follicles and uneven waxing but this time it was absolutely perfect! I am a client for life!

I’ve been sugaring for years & when my regular salon wasn’t avail, I tried sugar moon.
LOVE the online booking. So easy to see when they have openings & coordinate it with my schedule.
I’ve had a few different technicians, in addition to Paola (the owner), do my sugaring & each one was professional, friendly & quick.
This salon is a bit more expensive than the independent (1 person) salons, but u pay for convenience & flexible booking with multiple choice in who and when

A friend recommended sugaring for, ahem, delicate areas so I gave it a try Jan 2014 and have been coming back regularly. I am a total convert and will never go back to shaving my lady bits.
My first visit was exceptional. The salon is small, cozy, quiet, and very pretty. I was greeted by the front desk and all staff that I encountered were very professional and courteous. As it was my first time getting a Brazilian, my technician walked me through the process and helped me survive the pain. Also, as a special «prize» for making it through my first time, I was handed a little chocolate bar and a fridge magnet! How sweet and thoughtful!
I have been to this location as well as the College st location and have been treated with only the best service. Really exceptional management and staff, I’m very impressed. Today I showed at the wrong location for my appointment, but whether it was I that messed it up, or the receptionist who booked my appointment, the staff made me feel very comfortable about the mistake and accommodated me very quickly. I felt like a total goof but they didn’t make a big deal of it, of which I was very appreciative. The prices are a little high for me, however given the level of service, I would not compromise price over quality anywhere else.
My mom owns a salon which offers waxing, so I haven’t tried any of their other services, but I trust my coochie to Sugarmoon… it’s the one area I don’t want my dear old ma poking about, haha! I don’t have sensitive skin, but I hear it’s better than waxing for those who do. I have never experienced any irritation after a sugaring.
My one criticism is that they often try to get you to buy their products, but it’s part of their job so I don’t blame them. Their exfoliating brushes are very high quality, but they are expensive. I bought a much cheaper (albeit less densely bristled) version at Noah’s Natural Foods, but it does the trick just right.
Highly, highly recommend this place for anyone looking for quality hair removal!

Been going to Sugarmoon for the past 8 months and I have been having consistently good experiences. The place is always nice and clean, the receptionist is always friendly, and booking online is easy. I have had Stephanie, Amy, Mandy and Desrene and they all have been nice, talkative, and fun. Paying kinda sucks cause you cant tip by credit or debit, only cash, so sometimes I leave without tipping cause I forgot to bring cash, but they are really nice about it. Its a little more pricier than my old waxes ($ 20 compared to their $ 30 plus tax), but its good to know the place is clean. Sugaring hurts a whole lot less than waxing too and it doesn’t have the after pain too. All in all, I recommend Sugarmoon

The location isn’t great, but everyone here is so nice that I just can’t give it less than five stars. The girl I usually see is so friendly and talks to me so as to take my attention away from less pleasant things. And, when I brought my boyfriend here, the girls made him feel welcome and «eased» him through his first sugaring experience.

I have been going to Sugarmoon for almost two years, and I would never trust my brazilian to any other salon. The ladies there are always friendly, and completely professional. I have seen several of their aestheticians, and find them all to do a great job, though some will do an extra tweezing if they feel it necessary. I have also gotten eyebrows and underarms sugared, with the same very satisfactory results.
It has been mentioned before — Sugarmoon is a little pricier than some other waxing establishments, but it is well worth the cost in my opinion. And online booking — incredibly convenient, and the email reminders are perfect for me who can often forget my own name.
I have done facials at the Danforth location previously, but they no longer offer those services, or Dermalogica products.

I love sugar waxing, I am a ginger so my skin is sensitive and is really affected by normal waxing so this is a god sent. Yes it still hurts, but really only when the sugar is being applied the ripping doesn’t hurt as much as normal waxing.
I have been to both location and I as well prefer this one because the parking is really easy (I book after work and have to drive so subway is not an option). The entire place is really clean and bright which is very comforting.
These girls REALLY know what they are doing, I have had three or four of the technicians now and they are all great and very efficient. I get the Brazilian and I am good about keeping to 5 weeks so I get 20min appointments but most of the time it takes 10 – 15 which is fantastic.
They also have a lot of fun monthly promotions that are great, February was a free vagazzle which was super funny and cute and September was eyebrow tinting.
All in all a really great place and I will be so gutted when I move and cant come here anymore.

I’m a sugar-convert.
I was a little apprehensive before I went… The reviews were awesome but you can’t be too careful when introducing your lady parts to new people. And now I’m so glad I went for it! The whole experience was great. The location is very cute and laid-back but most importantly CLEAN and the staff were really welcoming. I had Stephanie for a brazilian and she was super– calm and knowledgeable and she did an excellent job in under 15min. I think we all appreciate someone who is thorough and quick in these situations. The price is more than reasonable, their hours are great and I love that when you book online you can see who you’re with rather than just the time slot. Definitely recommend– I couldn’t be happier!

Unlike waxing (ouch) or other methods of removing unwanted hair, sugaring is pretty effing amazing. It only hurts for, like, a split second and there is no irritation or redness that results.
I have been to Sugarmoon twice, the most recent time being this past Tuesday evening (Danforth location– they have another location at Yonge & College as well).
I have to say, given what’s going on in that room, the staff are so unbelievably professional, talking the whole way through, making you feel comfortable even though, really, you’re lying there spread eagle in a super compromising position. You almost forget that you’re there for such a service. Of course, they do sugaring for all parts of the body.
The results last much longer than waxing or other methods, and the price ($ 31 for a bikini-area sugaring) can’t really be beaten, considering you don’t leave unable to walk.
I think this little place is fantastic, well-priced, you can book online (a bonus) and has the most pleasant reception staff I’ve ever encountered in a spa setting.

I alternate between Danforth and College. For some reason, I like Danforth much better! I have no reason as to why but I like the little parking lot beside the building and the waiting area is a bit warmer and comfy than the College St. location.
I’m a total sugaring convert. Most of the technicians work at either location. Today, a booking error turned into a miracle. I usually go with Cailey and she is awesome and does a great job. Something must have gone wrong when I booked, because I was given a different person than usual.
Her name is Cricel and she is the most thorough sugarist ever! First off, she is super thorough. When I got home I looked and there were no strays anywhere (and I have fine, blond hair so that happens often). This was by far the fastest and best brazilian I have ever had. Definitely give Cricel a try — she is awesome!

I think I just had the best Brazilian (and underarm) sugaring possible.
I am traveling for work and needed maintenance during my long trip. I have been to probably 15 sugar spas and can honestly say Sugarmoon is amazing.
First, the crazed traveler that I am, was welcomed with a warm tea, cold water and a very nice receptionist (Alison). The spa is small, and cozy with a ton of great product lining the walls (with testers, too). I headed downstairs the restroom before my treatment, it was very clean and smelled great. The room where I received my treatment (also downstairs) was very clean and bright — so the esthetician could easily see every little hair. (I often wonder why some spas have dark rooms for sugaring?)
My session could not have been more professional and my esthetician was very thorough. I could not have been more pleased — just wish I could move Sugarmoon back to Seattle!

My friend’s mom mentioned sugaring to me a while ago as an alternative to waxing. I ended up trying «Sugar Me Up» on Danforth and really liked it. However, they are insanely hard to get a hold of to the point of having to walk in and hope there’s something available. So alas, I decided to make the switch to Sugarmoon.
I’ve been twice so far, and the staff, atmosphere, and job they do is fantastic. Everything is peaceful and clean. Cailey was awesome; she struck up conversation which made the experience way more personable and (seem) way less painful. It is a bit more expensive than Sugar Me Up, but I’ll suck it up for the friendly service and job well done here. I’ll definitely be returning!

I’ve been coming to Sugarmoon since January for brazilians and as a person with bad allergies and sensitive skin I honestly don’t have a single complaint about this place. The atmosphere is very clean and super adorable. The staff is ALWAYS happy and friendly. I’ve dealt with various people (pretty much whoever’s available) and even though they all have their own techniques, they’re all very well trained and do a great job! I’ll be coming back here for a long time.
If I had to say anything my only issue would be that the procedures are significantly more expensive than just a standard wax. But honestly, with these types of services, you get what you pay for ESPECIALLY with a brazilian thats extremely intrusive and can be uncomfortable for most people, I gladly pay the extra price for an enjoyable, clean, and well-done job. I recommend it to anyone who is either a first-timer or has had a bad experience with waxing in the past. They’ll change your mind for sure!

I switched. That’s right. I’m a sugar convert. I got sugared.
My guy even said: It just sounds better.
As in, «Hey, Babe, I’m going to go get sugared.»
I mean, really, the word «wax» has «ax» in it. Yikes.
I got sugared today after years of waxing.* It is still where your hair is pulled out from the roots.
And I am so happy.
(This sounds like I’m insane? Maybe.)
I can attest that sugaring is gentler, lasts longer and comes with less skin reactions than with waxing. My guy noticed, too.
Things I loved:
Clients take their shoes off at the door — indoor shoes provided.
How it smells in there: fresh, organic, free of chemicals.
The apple green paint and artwork on the walls.
Discovering that sugaring is an art, how the sugar solution was applied and removed with a subtle twisting of the wrist.
The easy, lively conversation.
The fantastic bar of oatmeal & tea tree oll soap and great after-care product that I received as a first time customer.
Loved loved loved it.
* I tried the highest-rated Brazilian wax place in Toronto, according to Unilocal (Nail Sense) – and it fell short of my expectations, way short. The staff was pleasant and competent but the ambiance was on the sterile side and, more importantly, I did not find the waxing products to be high quality — and this showed in a noticeable and uncomfortable way, later.

I recently purchased a Groupon for Sugar Moon. I’ve been sugaring for a few years now, but my loyalty is elsewhere and I couldn’t bring myself to betray my beloved sugarer. So I booked a facial instead.
The space is clean, pretty, and calming, though there is a small ticking clock in the treatment room that drove me bananas. The facial was nice (once we got past the ‘ozone’ steam that made me cough and cough). Relaxing. Pretty smelling. And the extractions Kaylee (sp?) did were much less painful than those done at my last facial. She also did a good job of explaining the impact of various factors on skin and helping me to understand what’s behind my occassional acne, so that was nice.
That said, I hate the «subtle» salespitch for Dermalogica products. I just can’t imagine justifying an $ 80 facial cleanser and I don’t want to feel like a delinquent because of this. I know this isn’t a problem unique to Sugar Moon, and I understand how things work, but I still don’t like it.
Also, payment is cash, credit or debit, but they only accept tips in cash, so make sure you have some on hand when you go, or you’ll be stiffing your aesthetician like I did.

So here’s an update… the woman who I used to go to for sugaring is no longer working at Sugar Moon, which means I won’t be going there anymore.
There are a couple reasons why I won’t adopt another lady to do my services for me. 1. Most the employees are really nice but to be honest is seems fake and 2. I got in a bit of an argument with the owner and just don’t feel like dealing with nonsense anymore.
The good news is I know where the girl who I go to will be working (thanks to the grape vine) so I shall follow.

I have been using Sugar Moon for quite a while now.
What to like about this place:
–sugaring is great — less painful than waxing and less likely to get ingrown hairs after — lasts longer too
–the staff — the staff are all great there — friendly, helpful and always nice!
–the website — they just redid their online website — now you can book your appointments online — sooooo soooo handy (I wish more places had this)
I have never had other services except the sugaring — but they do the whole range of aesthetics.
If you join their mailing lists, they will alert you to deals and other promos coming up.
If you are in the Coxwell and Danforth «hood», this is the best place to go!

One of my all-natural, hippy, believes-in-alternative-medicine coworkers recommended this place to me when I said that I wanted to get a brazilian. She said she had awful experiences with wax and loved this place.
Most of my waxing experience had been me doing it myself, except for the eyebrows where I usually get a trained professional. I’m just mentioning that because wax definitely hurts more when you do it yourself. So, in comparison, sugaring was a breeze. I’m not going to say no pain, but definitely less pain.
The website says that your hairs need only be ¼ of an inch versus ½ of an inch for waxing. I’d say that if you want the best results, grow it in a bit longer because they can always trim a little.
I got a brazilian and my eyebrows done. The method they use is really cool, they have this ball of sugar that’s warm (but not hot) and they pull a portion of it on your skin, and with the rest of the sugar ball attached, they use that to quickly rip the portion on your skin off. It’s very effective, but not as strong a pull as waxing. Although this method is great for areas where you want to remove all the hair, it’s really crappy for places like eyebrows because it’s not as precise as when wax is painted on your eyebrow with a toothpick.
I recommend this place, but just not for eyebrows because the lady who did my eyebrows just ended up using a tweezer to pluck most of it off — and it took a long time for her to do that. And I agree with the other reviewers when they say the staff is really nice — they are and they give you complimentary tea while you’re waiting! I’d come back, but I’ve gotten laser hair removal since.
