Used to be good but has gone way downhill. Came here for the first time in a year today and majorly unimpressed. Unfriendly as hell and that was never the case before. They got the order of the guy in front of me wrong three times. They also redid the décor and it’s terrible now. Accessibility: flat entrance, but washrooms are in the basement.

Tis is the coolest Second cup and way better than the one across the street at the Jewish Community Center. It is homey, relaxed, comfy with couches and comfy chairs. A bit funky but clean and a much better attitude from the staff and clientele. Skip the deal across the street and forget about the competitors they are not even close. And anyone who doesn’t like this coffee really doesn’t know coffee! For real! It blows Starbucks and Tim Horton’s out of the water and the attitude and style is much nicer.

As far as Second Cup’s go, this location is pretty crappy. It’s small and cramped. The bathroom is dirty. If you sit near the front you will be blown by freezing cold air conditioning. Not the kind of atmosphere one would enjoy. The food is decent — no different than any other Second Cup. If you want to enjoy yourself I’d suggest going to their other location across the street, or if you want to stay awhile and study try the Second Cup that’s a few blocks down the street on Harbord and Spadina(at Grad House).

i camped out in this coffee shop for like 3 weeks straight while studying for my licensing exam in 09. i found the atmosphere very relaxing, music was calming and the guy remembered all my drinks. i got lots of work done and they never kicked me out for«loitering» so i’m super grateful. i must’ve been on a liquid diet during those 3 weeks lol. fun times.

This location lingers in my mind for one reason: the really dirty bathrooms. Well, that and the pan-handlers that favor the entrance. I’m impressed by the staff here; they have a pretty good attitude and they’re certainly more interesting than the automatons at TH. The baked-goods display is nearly always stocked with at least one item slathered in neon icing and an assortment of sugar bombs. Funnily enough, they were totally out of raw sugar when I came here today. I guess the processed stuff lasts longer? Still, I like coming here when I’m in the area. It’s a convenient location but I never linger… I wonder if they play The Gypsy Kings to keep people moving on?

This rendition of the Second Cup is very close to the Holiday Inn hotel where I’m staying and it’s open till 11:00pm so that makes it a decent place to go to work/study/read in the area. It’s right against the U Toronto campus so that’s convenient too. Several seats have nearby plugs and there are a variety of seating options(bar-type, comfy chairs, booth seats, «kitchen» chairs). Decent layout and well-lit too. As many of you know the coffee here is not good. Not terrible, but even below Starbucks quality I’d say… and I’m no fan of that either. The bathroom here is totally sketchy and they need to buzz you in to use it. That’s probably because several homeless people seem to hang out here on a regular basis rendering the nearby seats unusable to anybody with a nose. The music is terrible, worse than even other Second Cups it seems… distracting, annoying, dated, and unpleasant. So bring headphones. Bottom line: this place serves its purpose and just barely.
