Trove

I love Trove. I’m glad they made this location into an outlet. I love supporting Canadian businesses that carry clothing from local designers but it can be expensive. So the outlet is a perfect solution for someone like me. I ended up buying a beautiful cotton dress with the help of a sales lady. She was super nice & helpful. I will definitely come back when I need to get other items!

I wouldn’t say that I could wear the clothes in here, and want everything off the rack. It has a bit of a quirky, knitted animal-​hat and shapeless jersey clothing vibe, but I will say that they have some REALLY beautiful belts and they carry the Michael Michaud Silver Seasons jewellery line (gorgeous!)
Other than the belts and the jewellery line, the rest of the jewellery was okay, not amazing, not Claire’s Accessories, and the clothing itself was ho-​hum for my kind of style.
I don’t really think it’s a store I’d want to pop in and re-​visit on a regular basis.

I bought a pair of Kodiak boots from Trove in November and recently noticed the stitching had come undone around the heel. As I’m registered on their list, my receipt was on-​line for them– good thing too since I couldn’t find it!
The manager was über helpful, she switched the boots for the same pair and took the damaged ones back! I thought I’d have to deal with Kodiak myself since it seems like a defect of the boot… but Trove took that on for me. Great customer service!
(and yes, the store is pricey– but the shoes are quality and unique… as too the amazing selection of jewellery.)
I recommend getting on their email list to catch the DEALS! And if you are needing a gift in a pinch, for a gal, — go to Trove you’ll not leave empty handed and no doubt your gift will win big grins!

Trove almost ruined Christmas this year. I never imagined myself saying this, but it’s true.
To be fair, Trove has been my go-​to destination for gifts over the years. There are few and far Christmases, female friends and family members’ birthdays, or milestones (including my University graduation and first experience as a bridesmaid) that have not been highlighted with something special from Trove. The prices can be steep, but the local and not local but harder-​to-​find designs and well-​curated selection are worth it.
Trove is good, Trove is great! So why will I never be stepping foot into Trove again?
I can hardly recall another shopping experience that has left me feeling more insulted than the one I just had at Trove. To cut to the chase: A pair of $ 150 earrings that I had purchased and gotten gift wrapped at the store turned out missing on Christmas day. However, that is not what I am truly upset about. I didn’t doubt for a second that it was just a mistake — that the clerk had accidentally wrapped an empty box rather than having stolen the earrings. As the visibly annoyed salesperson said to me in exaggerated tones when I returned to the store in the new year: «It was human error!».
I understand that mistakes happen and am not dwelling on that. What the roomful of staff (in the midst of inventory) couldn’t empathize with was how shocking it was for me to get the call from my boyfriend’s mother from across the country on Christmas morning to let me know that my first gift to her was an empty box. After I explained to the staff how much of an inconvenience (his parents live out of the city, we had to wait out the holidays when the store was closed) and embarrassment this whole ordeal has been, all I got were «That sucks!» and shrugs.
We finally left the store the second time around with the earrings, but also no compensation or satisfaction, and a bag full of excuses («It was really busy that day!» when really, the staff members had outnumbered the shoppers and we spent a leisurely afternoon picking out gifts while chatting with them). Is this how you treat someone who has not only just spent a considerable amount on Christmas gifts, but has been patronizing the store for years, and just had to deal with the consequences of your clerk’s mistake over the holidays?
Although I’ve watched Trove mature in appearance, product selection, and certainly price range over the years, service recovery is apparently not something that they have yet learned. There are a plethora of local-​centric stores out there now, so it’s time I patronize another that understands the value of customer loyalty.

This is a fun store, and if I didn’t have any qualms about buying well-​made fine.leather. shoes, it would score at least a 4. If prices dropped even further, they’d likely be pretty close to a 5.
Prices are… pricey, but I love that you can get rare pieces here, so you can expect to run into Sally without the same top on. Their patterned pieces are among my favourite kinds anywhere, I wish they offered more choices in that dept.
I was last here two days ago, didn’t get the name of the long dark haired person w/​light blue eyes and tats who was so helpful and friendly.
She even suggested some places that I could go to continue searching for some specific goods/​looks… I love when ppl go beyond what they need to; much appreciated.
Would I go back? Heck yes. It’s just a fun shop to enter from time to time.

Trove has recently shuffled things around to create a more organized space, which looks great. I wish I had the kind of cash flow that would enable me to purchase many, many shoes and bags, but I work in non-​profit.
I am not normally a girlie-​shopping kinda gal, but I find something great every time I am there (though do not always make a purchase). I have bought a few pairs of shoes by Indigo over the last two years and I love them. I agree with other Unilocalers that the clothes selection is lacking, but if you are looking for a great selection of unique shoes, accessories or handbags, check it out.
Just make sure you have saved up a bit of money first…

I love the huge range of Miss L Fire shoes they carry here. I can barely find any in SF/​US. I wanted a couple of the patterns but they didn’t have it in my size, so i settled for just 1 of them. Really wish they carried bigger sizes!
Clothes collection is a little lacking, but the shoe collection is really unique and I’ll be back!

I am also one of the people that always find something at Trove. It really does live up to it’s name; it’s a true treasure Trove.
The times I have gone there, they had the 50% off sale and I was in heaven. Got a beautiful purse and awesome jewelry for way below what I would have spent anywhere else. Full retail prices are quite steep but it’s nice just to look around. Apparently the Bloor Store has a greater selection of clothing.

If shopping is my addiction, then Trove is my dealer.
Everything that they carry is amazing and I’ve never gotten anything but loads of compliments (even from jaded NYers) when I wear what I purchase there. Clothing, shoes, jewelry, bags, etc, anything your greedy little heart didn’t know it desired could be found there. It’s one of my two favorite stores in Toronto.

Trove is one of my «holy grail”/top 5 places to shop in Toronto. If I have money to burn* you can pretty much guarantee I’ll do a stopover at Trove on Bathurst (or their new location in Bloor West, which is dangerously close to where I live). It has renewed my love jewellery and pretty things!
When you walk into Trove you’re greeted with seasonal accessories like scarves, hats, totes and the like, but once you get deeper into the store (ie the second «room») you’ll be truly wowed. There is a veritable TROVE (har har) of goodies to sift through and admire, a lot of which includes hand-​crafted gems from local artists. All the pendants, chains, charms and chandelier earrings you could ever want, all in pretty display boxes. I’m not kidding when I say I have to set an item and price limit when I walk through the door, otherwise I know I’ll bankrupt myself. But I never go to Trove without the intention of spoiling myself and picking up at least one necklace or a pair of earrings. All of my favourite jewellery is from Trove and the staff has helped me pick it!
Oh, and I didn’t even talk about the entire arsenal of boots, sandals and hard-​to-​find shoe brands at decent prices that’s also in the second room. I haven’t even begun to attack that section of the store — I can never make it past the jewellery!
Trove also has a good mailing list that can alert you to sales and discounts — so sign up!
*When I say «money to burn» I’m not insinuating that Trove is pricey — just that I’m 100% certain to find something I want to buy.

Trove is one of those stores that if I even enter, I can guarantee I’m going to drop some dollars. Ever since the renovation the place has lured me in with its candy-​bright exterior paint and beautifully laid out display cases. Sigh. Trove.
The inside is just as tasty as the outside, with shoes, bags, accessories and more! A good friend of mine went in on a particularly good sale day and came out with several purses and pairs of shoes, all for less than the cost of just one pair would be at a more chichi boutique. My only luck was that my coffers were bare that week, otherwise I would have probably bought out the entire store.
One unfortunate side to Trove is I don’t really feel it’s found its element at Bathurst/​Bloor. While there are a few cute boutiques in the Annex if you head a bit east of Bathurst on Bloor, it seems like Trove is stuck there alone, just slightly off the beaten path. Enlightened shoppers will know that a trip to Trove is best followed by a beverage at one of the half dozen coffee shops within blocks of the Bloor/​Bathurst intersection, but unless you’re at Honest Eds, Trove does seem a bit out of the way. But then again, the word «trove» to me means a hidden stash of treasure, so maybe it is nice to have it quietly tucked away that way…

Women: if your finances are a concern, I suggest you divert your gaze to the west when you pass by the bright green shop front at 793 Bathurst Street. I own five pairs of boots from Trove: all five pairs were impulse buys.
Trove carries shoes and boots from Fly London, Bos & Co (Canadian!), Frye, Clarkes and more. Apparently, the clothing and jewelry showcases some well regarded local designers but I must admit that only the footwear has ever caught my eye.
It’s worth the effort to check back frequently for Trove’s sales. There are serious deals: a friend found Fly London Mary Janes for $ 50 when the exact same shoes were on for $ 170 along Queen Street.
Sometimes, one cannot risk waiting for the sales before buying. Let me tell you about my pride and joy: knee-​high two tone brown leather block heeled boots with a dozen leather-​covered buttons running down each leg. They are spectacular and unique. Strangers dash up to me on the street to compliment them. I’ll gladly pay full price to Trove for something that makes me feel so fabulous.
