Sam was very nice, thus the second star. My boyfriend and I were booked for a night at Between Friends, and the service was great during booking. Several days later, Simone contacted us to let us know that they had double-booked and would need to cancel our reservation. This was definitely an inconvenience as my credit card had already been charged, and we now need to find other accommodations 2 weeks before we arrive! I’m sure this is a great place, but this was definitely an inconvenience. If you book with them, make sure you’re the only ones they’ve booked.

There are two types of Unilocalers: those who review pretty much everything, and those who review only places they love or hate. I’m in the second category, and I’m reviewing ABBBF because I loved it. Simone, the proprietor, is friendly and accommodating and makes a wonderful eggs benedict. We stayed in two different suites(the Wedgewood and the Zen), and both were great. The Zen suite is considerably larger, as it occupies the entire bottom floor of the house. It includes a den that has a mini-fridge. There wasn’t much noise in either room during the night or in the mornings, and the house itself is located in a pretty quiet neighborhood. Breakfast is nice, with homemade granola, organic yogurt, fresh(!!) fruit salad, *wonderful* coffee(I’m serious about this), a selection of juices, and always a nice hot breakfast on offer, too. The house is clean, with comfortable and attractive furnishings in the common areas(a living room with hardwood floors, a smallish sun room with tile floors, and a patio). We didn’t bring a car, but there is parking space available if necessary. You’re located about a 5 minute walk from the Kits beach, where you can watch the sunrise/sunset, have a stroll, or take a brisk jog(all of these are popular activities). If you want a place to have a drink or snack by the water, check out Local. ABBBF is conveniently located just off West 4th Ave., where you can catch the No. 4 bus to downtown Vancouver — maybe a 10 minute ride. There is a good variety of shopping available along West 4th, with a number of good cafes in walking distance — especially Arbutus Coffee on Arbutus &6th and 49th Parallel on West 4th(it’s worth the extra walk to get to Arbutus Coffee!).

I absolutely loved this Bed & Breakfast. We visited Vancouver with the intention of doing some sightseeing and checking out the local festivals. The B&B is located in an area with lots of little shops and very convenient access to downtown even by way of bicycle. The hostess was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was a perfectly balanced meal that kept us going strong until lunch. We were also very fortunately to meet quite a few international travelers and talk about travel experiences over breakfast. I highly recommend this B&B!

In the heart of Kitsilano is this charming home away from home. We shared the suite with our friends visiting from Texas. Located right off 4th Ave W with its host of shops and restaurants at one end and the beach at the other end. Walk down to the beach and catch a 5 minute bus ride to downtown. The house is early 20th century with hardwoods and roomy bedrooms. Friendly and helpful host. Though secured parking is provided, we still had the unfortunate incident of a break-in!(It is Vancouver afterall.) I will definitely consider staying there again – might take the train next time.
