Delicious soups. We thought it was a pie but we think it was more a soup. The French Onion pot pie was the most delicious we ever tried. The caramelized onions with mozzarella gave a special twits. We also tried the beef pot pie. Really great and the beef was really soft.

This pie stand in the Public Market on Granville Island sells numerous of savory and sweet pies for cooking at home, as well as several for eating on-site. The savory pies are filling and have decent flavor, although I like a little more spice so the two I tried tasted a bit bland.

I actually reeeeally liked everything I ordered from here. I got a mushroom tomato soup/pot pie. I loved the crust on top and the soup was delicious and creamy. Even though it tasted good, it also seemed like something I could easily make at home, by putting soup in a mug and then putting flaky pastry dough on top and baking it in the oven. The portion was also not that big considering the cost. I also ordered a tea with boba, and the boba was good quality, chewy, and soft. Well, one thing I didn’t like that much was the rhubarb pie. I thought it was a little too sour, but my boyfriend loved it. So the only reason this place gets 3 stars instead of 4 is the HIGH price of food! I guess that’s to be expected on Granville Island, which is sort of a tourist hot spot, but still… I thought it was too overpriced. Also, seating was difficult to find to eat your food!

The food here definitely looks better than it actually is. They had an impressive display of pot pies and desserts that won me over. So I ordered a chicken pot pie and a gooseberry tart. The chicken pot pie LOOKS massive, but as soon as you stab a hole through the top, the whole thing deflates and it becomes this sad looking… caved-in pie. So given that more than half of its original size is completely EMPTY, I definitely didn’t think it was worth $ 10. The inside of the pot pie was alright, nothing special. For me, there wasn’t enough crust to balance out the soupy inside. But with this dish, overall, I just felt cheated. My heart sank almost as fast as the pot pie deflated. The gooseberry tart wasn’t good either. I had no idea what a gooseberry was until then. The berries themselves were alright, but the crust was severely lacking in flavor. It just tasted like sugar. The custard topping holding the berries to the crust was okay, and if you eat it with the crust, the combination isn’t bad. But overall, this was pretty meh. I think there are definitely better options at the Granville Island Market. This place might look impressive, but trust me, the food here ain’t that great.

I’ve walked by this place several times over the years and always like to take a look, but had never bought a slice of pie before. On this visit, I was tempted to try the coconut cream pie. I was a little hesitant as the crust looked unusual. i gave it a shot. The crust was mushy and the pie was served a little oddly. It was a a slice swimming in a custard. It was warm and not enjoyable. I tossed it. It was a bit pricey at around 6 or 7CAD. It left me feeling violated.

I’m often jealous of my wife as her work cafeteria serves good pot pie from time to time so I was excited to get a little pot pie fix of my own while visiting Granville Island Public Market! They’ve got quite a variety of pot pies here and it was a tough decision, but I ended up getting the salmon chowder pot pie. The pie was pretty good– nice chunks of salmon and tasty chowder, but I would have liked it a little bigger as I was left wanting more at the end. My other family members got different pot pies(clam chowder and one other one) and they weren’t anything to write home about from their end. Verdict: decent place to grab a bite to eat, a great item to share if you’re nibbling at different food items through the market!

Their pot pies taste amazing. They are creamy and full of flavour. Portion is perfect for a petite stomach but not enough if you are a foodie and Big Mac eater. So it’s the quality that earned 4 stars here. Customer service was ok. Have tried all kinds of pot pies. Both me and my partner loved. Haven’t tried anything else except potpies

I would say this place is a tourist trap on Granville Island. Their«pot pie“s are nothing but Campbell’s canned soups and some pastry on top of the mugs and then baked. The pie looks unique and nice but it is just for the show. Another thing that bothered me was that the ladies who are working there are just soooooo grumpy!!! I would not want to eat something that is made poorly by grumpy and unfriendly people on a false premises to make it fancier to charge more for the show!

I had came to Granville island on a whim. Saw A La Mode with an empty stomach and thought it deserved a chance. Ordered one chicken pot pie and was presently surprised. Light flakey crust, creamy filling. The only downside is it is quite pricey. But it demands a lot of tourists. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood. Not bad at all.

Was walking around Granville Island when I realized I have yet to have a proper meal so I walked towards the market. Was incredibly overwhelmed with all the options! I walked around and around on a grub hunt when I saw a table with a number of giant mugs that were clearly topped with fresh and flaky baked crust. So I took a look at their menu and was intrigued with the items. After walking around to check out the other menus, I had to go back. It was rainy, cold and I thought it would be perfect. And it was! I had the Clam Chowder(chowdah!) which was very good. The soup itself was nice and creamy though I wish there was more seafood. I got a few pieces of potatoes which is fine by me since I shouldn’t be having them but may have been a disappointment to some. The crust was perfection! Was great to either have it soak in the soup or eating it by tearing it off and dipping it. I thoroughly enjoyed the soup and if I lived here, it would definitely be a go-to of mine. Price was $ 9.50 which is pretty reasonable. Again, I just wish they’d have more seafood in there. 5⁄5.

frauds! I just saw these people pour cans of Campbell soup into a pot!(For their«homemade pot pies!). When I got to the front of the line I asked if their soups and pastry are made from scratch and they proudly said yes! Everything is made from scratch. I told them what I had just observed and they totally back peddled. «Well. We just use that as a base» they said! Don’t support these cons!

How I heard of this place: On a little afternoon walk through Granville Island, we were easily tempted by all of the delicious dishes being consumed by businessmen, families and passerby along the dock. We stepped inside to indulge in a salmon burger but were more intrigued by these puffy pies at A La Mode. Type of cuisine: «A la Mode offers a wide selection of homemade sweet and savoury pies. Whether you’re after a toasty beef pot pie or a sweet slice of lemon meringue, we’ve got what you’re looking for. Enjoy a slice in the market or take a whole pie home to share.» Ambiance: A market like that of Pike Place and other similar local jaunts, indoor with crafts, foods and goodies, A La Mode shares the windowed views of the Aqua Boat docks and musician deck where pigeons and seagulls swoosh around in search of food. What I ordered: For the three of us, two Clam Chowder Pot Pies and one Salmon Chowder Pot Pie, each served in its own ceramic bowl. What I loved: Salmon Chowder. Why I loved it: More flavor from the smokey good salmon, large chunks of salmon to make up for the watery consistency of the chowder. Cost: Average($ 5-$ 6 per pie)

Freshly made pot pies? Chicken, beef, chowder, french onion! The location is away from most of the other food stands, giving you lots of room to line up and stand. The menu is simple and clean! We decided to give the chicken pot pie and French onion one a try. The line up went quickly, but the ladies working there were all rude. They do not smile and do not know how to say thank you.(Maybe having a tough day?) They only accept cash for anything under a certain amount(I believe $ 15). It came out to be around $ 9.50 each, which is super over priced for what it is but Granville island is a place for tourist. The pot pies itself wasn’t the best, the chicken pot pie had a little too much pepper to it and the French onion was quite salty. I don’t think I would go back for the chicken pot pie but I do definitely want to give the desserts a try!

What’s the ideal thing to eat on a slight chilly and rainy day on artsy island? CHOWDAH! My cousin in Vancouver recommended me to try this place, and although he didn’t remember the name of the place, his description of the food lead me to find the treasure of Grandville: CLAMCHOWDERPOTPIE — $ 9.50 It’s not just chowder; it’s also a pot pie where there is a thin, flakey, wonderfully warm layer of pastry right on top! Just shovel through that and you will find that chowder goodness that was served in a fancy ceramic bowl! The chowder is creamy with plenty of baby clams – it’s mostly on the bottom so try and stir a bit if you have room! Let the flakey crust fall into the chowder or dip it; it goes so well together! They should sell just the crust for my dipping enjoyment. This place isn’t hard to miss. It’s located right by the entrance/exit of the publics market communal area. They accept US currency too.

A La Mode is an intriguing place that has a unusual desire to bake the various pies found worldwide, not just in any one country. They have whole pies, slices, beverages and a good ambiance. I decided to have the sausage roll, commonly found in the United Kingdom. The line was long and it moved quickly. Someone helped me before I got to the front and I ordered two of the sausage rolls for $ 4.50 each. They allowed me to decide whether to have it baked and realizing that bread can be too hot when recently baked, I decided against it. The food still had great noticeable quality, but consider having them bake it when they ask. When I had the sausage roll, it had a good taste. The meat co-ordinated well with the bread and the flavor was strong. The rolls were not gourmet magazine worthy, but they knew what they were doing. The price was still a little disproportionate to the quality, but the taste was notable. Overall, A La Mode might deserve a visit if you are at Granville Island Public Market. It’s just important to check to see what others felt about other pies, because it seems bakeries can often do one product well and another product horribly. They can only bake so much, so they develop specialties and the sausage roll had room for improvement. If you come here, I think you will enjoy the sausage roll, but the person I was with, did not think so. A La Mode is not worthy of any particular recommendation.

I book marked this place ’cause someone posted a very gorgeous picture of a pot pie on the February 19th front page of Unilocal. It would help if the profile would have their hours of operation were more user friendly. I finally got to go down here, however, was disappointed. I was totally ignored for 10 minutes, they saw me and knew that I was there, however, they were more concerned with socializing than actually serving me = very disappointed.

Great range of pies and drinks. I had a coconut cream meringue pie — it was pretty good but didn’t wow me. The people working there were also really really slow… waited a good 10−15min just to get a slice of pie when there was only one order for a drink before us. There were 4 workers and none of them seemed happy.

I come from pie people. All of the women in my family — my grandmothers, aunts, my mother, etc. know how to make great pies, so call me a little finicky when it comes to pie. I was pleasantly surprised by this little pie shop. I walk by it every time I go to Granville Island market, but there is always a huge lineup and nowhere to sit. Today I got lucky. Every time I go to try an eatery/restaurant on Granville Island I catch myself thinking, «Is this place going to be any good?» It’s no secret that most of the food establishments on Granville Island are sub-par and a total rip-off or tourist trap. Edible Canada at the Market is an exception, but most food places and restaurants on Granville Island have never really«WOWED» me. So onto the pie. A La Mode has an extensive menu of pies and pot pies as well as a variety of sandwiches and hot and cold drinks I decided on the coconut cream pie. It was very eggy like a custard pie with coconut folded in and had just the right amount of sweetness. It also had possibly the best pie pastry I have ever tried. The side of the pastry was flaky and the bottom was moist and a little chewy. The meringue was also none-to-sweet and had an eggy and slightly lemony flavour to it. Overall, a great pie. I’m giving A La Mode four stars, because their service is a little slow. If this place had a little more ambience(read: not overcrowded all the time) I would give it five stars.

How can I visit Vancouver without having clam chowder? A porcelain bowl with clam chowder covered with puff pastry that was baked over the opening. Both the puff pastry and soup were delicious, the soup is more on the watery side for texture but it doesn’t taste watered down. I think I’m just used to it being thicker but it could just be more cream or corn starch at other places. I would still suggest it but it doesn’t come cheap, about $ 8 for a small bowl. Don’t forget to bring the bowl back to the vendor since they don’t use disposable utensils. This is located in the public market and on the side that looks more like where the markets and fresh produce are sold. The bowls are premade and kept in a warmer so you don’t need to wait long for it. If you’re not a fan of clam chower, they have other soups and desserts to choose from.

Review is for their Mango Passion Pure Fruit Slushie only. After walking what seemed like HOURS around Granville Market, the Canadian wanted a slushie to cool himself down. Everything(the pot pies as well as the regular fruit pies) all looked delicious, but we were saving ourselves for dinner plans later. We ordered the Mango Passion Pure Fruit Slushie. Service was quick, the ladies behind the counter were nice, and the slushie had a nice, tropical, tangy flavor without tasting overly sweet or plastic-y. We’d come back for the fruit slushie anytime.
