Great place! It’s not a date spot, but for a quick cheap lunch, it’s great. The food is very good and comes out quickly. The staff are friendly. It’s not something to seek out when you’re in Vancouver, but it’s definitely a worthy addition to your list of lunch spots or dinner takeouts.

When I lived in the neighbourhood I used to come here every weekend or every second weekend for lunch. I would always order the lamb souvlaki(about $ 10 including tax) It’s a very filling meal. Roasted potato, a skewer of lamb, greek salad, a pita and lots of rice. Having tried their donair plate once or twice, I can say it’s not for me. It’s a cozy restaurant, and can only seat about twenty or so at the most. I’ve never seen it full but there’s usually a few people eating in and others coming to collect take-out. The food usually comes out within 20 – 30 minutes, and I consider this a great place to take a book and have a leisurely lunch. Note — they are closed on Sundays. Cash and cards accepted here.

This place is quite filling and not that expensive. Currently with any lunch order, you get a free lentil soup. Not bad that deal because the lamb souvlaki is only $ 9.95. Food is not bad. portion is quite big. Came here with a friend who works near my office and he loves this place. I know my firm orders here a lot as well. I usually have it to go. But they did renovated the place sometime between 2012 — 2015. I remember it looking different. The place is a lot cleaner. They do more takeout then dine-in, so you don’t have to worry not getting a seat.

[My Big Fat Greek Hole in the Wall] If you like tiny mom-and-pop shops that serve a great homestyle meal, this may be the place for you. This place is bigger and nicer than your average hole-in-the-wall. We popped by on Saturday evening with a group of 8 and had no trouble getting a table — the place was deserted. Odd considering its central location and decent prices. Perhaps there’s something everyone else knows that I don’t? I was being indecisive so proceeded to order the lamb souvlaki because it was pictured on the front of the menu(I don’t even think I really opened it). It turned out to be an excellent choice. Portion sizes were generous and even more delicious. The lamb was tender and juicy, served on a bed of rice, and accompanied by greek salad and half a potato. It wasn’t the fanciest of Greek meals but it was certainly mouthwatering. It also comes with pita bread for those with hollow legs. I managed to sample a friend’s chicken souvlaki dinner which was surprisingly dry — the complete opposite of mine. Note to self: Stick with the lamb. For $ 14, you can’t go wrong. The family who runs the place was very friendly and accommodating. While it’s not a fancy place you’d take a date, you’ll get an honest, tasty, no-frills meal at a great price. Do keep in mind that street parking is limited.

Ive only ever ordered delivery here so i cant comment on what its like as a sit down place but as take out, their food is great! Very tasty food, big portions and a totally reasonable price. Their delivery is fast and friendly. Their pizza is quite heavy with cheese and toppings and taste great — def not a light pizza though, its true greek style pizza. I usually order the chicken souvlaki dinner and it has never dissapointed and there are always left overs.

I just came home from ordering take out here, and the order they gave me wasn’t what I actually ordered. I believe this order is also more expensive than what I originally ordered. I actually ordered the chicken donair meal, and received an order of chicken slouvaki meal. So not only am I out extra money for a more expensive menu item I didn’t want, but I tipped on it as well, and I didn’t get the order I asked for. I’m a student and on a very tight budget, so this was my one dinner out a month. I’m pretty disappointed because now I’m stuck with something I didn’t order and didn’t want.

Delicious food, portions big enough for 2 meals, and rock bottom prices. It looks like a dive, but thats a plus in my books. My roommates and I are regulars. Highly recommend!

Fresh and delicious! The falafels in my wrap were perfectly fried on the outside, and moist and flavourful on the inside. Made fresh as soon as I ordered it. The wrap itself seemed it was a little torn up before I had even taken a bite so that made for really messy eating. Overall, lovely service and experience. Grab extra napkins though!

nothing fancy but basic cheap food… Not your ideal place to impress a date but that’s not their goal so not sit-down intentions, a few tables but more of a takeout place. street meter parking avail in front except during rush hour. Beside Vera’s burgers.

This place reminded of the The telephone booth Clarke Kent changes in it does not look like much from the outside but it provides good quality Greek food for the price. Had very good take out Greek Salad here the day. Told them I wanted the salad not cheese no problem and dress is in-house made olive oil simple and tasty. I be back.

This is my go to greek place when I want cheap but ok food and not willing to put fake food in my body. The chicken souvlaki is what I get usually and it’s decent. You also get a large side of greek salad and pita bread. For an area filled with overpriced food, this is a ok joint where you are supporting a family run business as opposed to a big chain.

Bawan is a great place for Greek style pan pizzas, the pies are very thick and full of toppings. Great deal for what you get. Very heavy in both taste and weight. Interior needs work, I would take out. My 4 star rating is only based on food to price/ratio. Not for date night. Still yet to try other dishes. Do judge a book by its cover, you’ll be surprised.

I only wish Zero stars existed. Total crap! Rice was flavourless and in so much abundance seeing as how it is cheap. Taziki sauce runny and had no taste. So called lemon potato I had to throw it out. After spending twelve dollars picking up lunch at this dirty establishment I regretted it after one bite. I pushed down the dry and barely edible pita bread with one skewer of chicken. Beyond a joke!

Bawan’s staff is actually very nice. Their greek salad is very good as are similarly greek-oriented menu items. Their pizza on the other hand… well, it is the reason for this review. It is literally the greasiest pizza I have ever eaten in my life. It is so greasy that the corrugated cardboard container arrived heavily stained from it. It is not an un-tasty pizza, but it is possibly one of those things that can be used as a murder weapon. In terms of value, there is something to be said for Bawan’s, but I wish they cut down on the grease.

Four stars for what this place is. You can get a traditional wrap loaded with veggies and bite for $ 5.88 after tax. That’s better quality and $ 2 cheaper than Mr Shawarma 8 blocks away. The donairs are good as well. This isn’t a place I’d go way out of my way to go to, but if you’re nearby and want something affordable, tasty and relatively quick(that isn’t sushi for once!) going here will serve you quite well.

First time I came: decent Greek fare, large portions. This visit: same genuine service but the food drop standards. Started with calamari. Now I don’t know about you, but I like my calamari to be a good mix of rings and tentacles. They only had rings, with not much seasoning and not so fresh squid. Also their tzatziki didn’t have very much zing to it which on one hand isn’t a bad thing, especially if you’re on a date. It takes me a day to scrub that bad breath away. We also sampled their dolmathes which were alright, but again lacked in spice. For mains I had the roast lamb. Decent portion, but just was a bit bland. There is only so much dipping sauce can do. After having a few recent misses with Greek, I think I’m gonna take a break.

Small, family run restaurants like this one almost always make a great choice for a meal. Bawan did not disappoint. Exceptionally friendly folks offered help with the menu. Lucky for us, there was a sampler platter that offered a chance to try out several Grecian specialties for a great price for 2 people … I think it was $ 30 for much more food than my companion and I could eat(and we have pretty big appetites, just saying). The food was absolutely fabulous … whether chicken, lamb, or veggies, it was seasoned nicely and cooked to perfection as only a family run joint can do. I look forward to visiting Bawan again when I return to Vancouver. Absolutely fabulous!

After a full day of exploring Victoria and the Butchart Gardens, Jamie W. and I came back off the ferry to Vancouver with no set plans for dinner. We looked for a rib joint in this ‘hood, and coming upon it, saw that it attracted what looked like a ZZ Top cover band fronted by a Bob Seger impersonator circa 1977. Deciding to pursue other options since we forgot our head bandanas, we came upon Bawan, a tiny, family-run Greek place that really deserves a lot more customers than just the two of us that evening. First came two rounds of lightly toasted pita with olive oil(see photo). We decided to order what turned out to be a sensational deal, C$ 29.95 for what they called a Group Grab, a huge, weighty platter of Greek specialties — chunks of grilled, succulent lamb on two skewers; two lamb chops; two wedges of spanikopita; two massive servings of lamb moussaka; two large halves of potato, buttered and grilled; a pile of Greek salad with fresh feta cheese; and a bowl of freshly made tzatziki sauce — all of this on a generous bed of rice(see photo). We were floored by how much we got and sincerely pleased at how hearty good it all was. Cynical Yankees that we are, we did wonder if we received an inordinate amount of food simply because we may have been their only customers that evening, but the wife was so nice in serving us that we just gorged and enjoyed. If I was a Vancouverite, I’d be coming here often for the homestyle Mediterranean cooking available here. As it stands now, I’ll have to wait until I come back. Meantime, I hope you locals will give this place a chance. FOOD — 4 stars… really good, hearty Greek dishes and portions that would serve an army AMBIANCE — 3.5 stars… compact place you could easily miss if you’re not looking for it SERVICE — 4 stars… warm and giving, for sure TOTAL — 4 stars… a genuine find among all the donair and Greek places in Vancouver

Disappointing take-out Moussaka… relatively little eggplant(which is most of the reason why I love Moussaka) and smaller portion then I expected for the price… I’m sticking to Stepho’s on Davie…

We order take out from Bawan’s about once per month and have never been disappointed with either the service or the food. Our typical meal which easily feeds three of us consists of one Moussaka meal(either vegetarian or meat. Both are excellent). The large serving of moussaka comes with a huge portion of saffron rice and potatoes, a large greek salad and a greek pita. To this, we add an appetizer portion of calamari(surely, this can’t be a serving for one! We’ve fed up to four with this«appetizer») The service is fast and friendly and, typically, takes only ten minutes between phoning it in and picking it up. Great for a last minute meal idea or unexpected company. Tonight, we had company and ordered two moussaka meals with the calamari. There are leftovers and the entire thing cost us under $ 30 — a scream of a deal for a tasty, solid feed! If you’re in the area and looking to feed a few people with a little bit of cash, this is your place. Order takeout though. Dining in results in significantly smaller portions.
