My sister and I came here a few times last summer and their treats are quite good; however, they have a pest issue. We stopped coming here because of their flies and wasps sitting on the pastries and around the front window with one landing in my americano. And just a couple of months ago, we saw a mouse.

Yes! Finally a café in the neighbourhood with good coffee! Some mornings I’m a little too lazy to make my own coffee and now I can just walk down the street to this here café and grab a good coffee. During busy peak times, brewed coffee is available in addition to pourovers, French press, and aeropress. Their coffee is solid, they have stamp cards, and their pastries are amazing. I’m no vegan or anything but their daily choice of muffins which include vegan options are delicious. And they change up the offerings often. If you see the vegan chocolate chip plum muffin, you must give it a try. The space is narrow but because it’s bright and high ceiling-ed, it doesn’t seem so tight. Some cafes can sometimes be a mediocre experience with unhappy looking staff, poor customer service, but BNG is friendly and the staff look happy. I haven’t noticed it yet, but I do hope that pungent deli curry smell from the high end supermarket next door doesn’t infiltrate the café.

My new favourite coffee shop and it’s awesome that they infiltrated this otherwise boring ‘hood. Wonderful coffee and they even offer a stamp card, so how can you not appreciate that? Staff are friendly and cool once you get to know them and why not leave a tip in the unique tip jar? BNG have certainly improved since they first opened and I noticed that the surly too skool for cool folks have been replaced by still cool but friendly baristas. I commend management for making some positive changes in that dep’t. Yay! The atmosphere inside isn’t necessarily the greatest but it’s always packed; what a difference from any of the prior establishments located here. And who cares if they don’t offer wifi? This gives everyone a chance to enjoy the place. In truth, I have never stayed to enjoy my coffee here as there is never any room, and why not take it and enjoy the neighbourhood, instead? If you need to sit down, the few benches outside are great for people watching in the Sogra ‘hood. Love most of the baked goods too, especially the cookies(any type). I am certainly no vegan but the vegan choco. peanut butter are awesome as are the chocolate chip. The scones aren’t bad but they could offer some butter with them, and this from a non butter-your-scone-type. They can be a tad on the dry side, so that is one area where they might want to improve upon. The iced coffees are especially great on a hot summer day, and the mochas aren’t bad. I love that they aren’t sweet at all, even if they could add a «little» sugar. So while it’s around a 4.5 I am bumping it up to a five given the other options and the location. If you had a less than stellar experience the first time then I would certainly give them another chance. They give Revolver and Timbertrain some stiff competition, and they certainly surpass every other place in this area!

Come here all the time, great coffee and a clean relaxed atmosphere. Usually sit outside on their casual sidewalk sitting area for a little people watching/reading. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the South Granville neighbourhood.

Stopped by for a short cappuccino while visiting Vancouver from Seattle. They nailed it. Great flavor of the shot. Velvety foam. Perfect size. If your looking for a great cappuccino done right. Come here.

I saw this reviewed on the front page of Unilocal on June 10th and decided to book mark it as part of my challenge that technically is already completed, however, expanding the list to go beyond 100 coffee shops in 52 weeks. The place is small, only 4 tables. Best to come after work when it is quieter. I was a bit annoyed when I went to the til ’cause there were no prices listed for the pastries. I felt bad asking the barista, who was by herself working on 3 drinks, to check her system for every single price listed on the pastries. It’s not like there was a lot of pastries, therefore, why can’t you put prices on them? In case you’re wondering the average price for a pastry is $ 3. I bought a savory muffin yet my receipt said sweet muffin. Maybe ’cause I expressed my annoyance I may have been charged for a higher priced pastry than what I was supposed to be charged. No way to prove that really, however, you can see how the pricing leeway can be discouraging. Not to mention how much wasted time it was for the barista to check the prices. I see this as lazy management. I got annoyed that even I offered to go behind the counter and write the prices in. My latte was made to order, she even did a cute leaf for me. I stayed to work on some homework and do some office work. The reason why this gets a two is ’cause of the awesome barista. Major points lost over the pricing issue.

They don’t have plugs, on purpose. I won’t be back, on purpose.

It’s a pity that the wifi is so lame. The place is nice, very charming and the coffee is good.

Amazing coffee. The mirror in the back tricked me into thinking the café was bigger than it was before I stepped in. It’s very hipster but the greatness of the coffee makes me want to come back.

Not only does this place make an amazing cup of coffee(in all styles might I add) they provide a much needed service for South Granville: a haven from the fussy grey hairs that inhabit the rest of South Granville’s shitty coffee shops. I have lived in Fairview Slopes for years and it took a long time to discover where to go and what to do. I am a working student and my apartment is an endless source of distraction, so I need to get out of there if I want to get any work done. Before BNG I had to go to Kits to find a decent cup of joe and a nice place to do some work. After reading the reviews, particularly the one complaining about the loud music, bitter drinks and chair shuffling, I suspect that this is the exact type of person that should continue getting crème brûlée lattes at Starbucks. Thank you to BNG’s lovely staff for the great service they provide. I for one enjoy the bustling, busy atmosphere; after all, I think shuffling chairs and loud music are indications of a coffee shop that knows their market. People that like coffee, not quiet conversations about last weeks book club meeting. I like my coffee just like I like my baristas: bitter and strong. Keep up the good work BNG.

South Granville(as some people call it completely ignoring the part at 70th) is not short on coffee places. In fact, there are 9 I can think of between 15th and Broadway just on Granville,… now 10. Does that mean there isn’t room for more? Well, the other places do seems very busy and have an apparent license to print money so maybe there is room if the offering is good. Is the offering good? To me, yes. This is the 2nd location for this place, the original being on Commercial Drive. The service bugs are already ironed out 3 days as a result and the tea and coffee all reportedly good, plus the snacks are like the original place and superior to those offered in the other nearby coffee places. What else sets them apart? Well, for now they don’t seem as busy, but I don’t expect that to last long. This place is built in what used to be piknik which was a horrible use of space so some people might not know about the improvements. Let me also go down the list of other places. Let’s rule out the 2 Starbucks,. noone need be subjected to that mediocrity. Blenz is way down at Broadway and more like a drive-thru for transit users. Bean Around the World is ok, but I don’t like the snacks so much plus it is loud and usually 100% saturated with hipster Wifi leaches(I’m sure BNG will be too shortly). Phoscao is a cave,. good product, but the space is not inviting. That leaves Meinhart’s,. more of a grocery store but what it has,. BNG shares, west facing storefront with seats in the window — to me this is the big draw at morning time, along with the communal tables that make good use of the small space. I can’t stand the pretentious customers and staff and Meinharts,. so yes, I think BNG can make a go of it and hope they do,. this is a rare case of something positive being added to my neighbourhood.
