I went once before the renovation for brunch and it was pretty good. Classic brunch options served in big portions. I went again today and the renovations were a big improvement. I was really hoping for a burger for lunch but they only serve their brunch menu until 4pm on Saturday and burgers were not on it. I ordered a chicken wrap with a side salad to go. I waiting close to 30 minutes, and they didn’t have takeout cutlery(couldn’t eat my salad). The wrap was good, lots of moist chicken, bacon, avocado, and tomatoes. When I went to eat the second half of my wrap I found a hair in it. Needless to say I threw it out after that, but I was also unimpressed with the salad as the arugula was wilted and looked old.

Came in for brunch, wasn’t overly stoked on what I ordered, which was the huervos ranchos. The tiny tortillas were cut in half, which was a little annoying, and the salsa was a huge soupy/stew. I left still super hungry. My friend got the eggs Benny which looked okay, and service was fine. But meh. So many other great options around.

What is up with this place? I was exhausted from shopping on South Granville and walked into this place just to feed my empty stomach. And, that was the worst decision of the day. I’ll be straightforward. The BLTC(bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar) that I had… worse than the sandwich that I make at home(and I SUCK at cooking.) I wanted fresh and crisp lettuce but what I got was…(sigh) what a shame. I paid $ 11 for this shit. If I could go back in time, I would rather to go starbucks and have their $ 4 breakfast sandwich. I know they’re still gross but at least they’re cheap.

I haven’t been here for a few years now but use to come for weekend brunch and was in the neighborhood with my family so decided to stop by for some lunch. We had a newborn and a 2 year old and it was pretty evident that they were not very interested in having our stroller and kids there. My wife wanted to leave but we were seated already so we decided to stay. Took them awhile before they even gave us a menu. When another group of young adults walked in after us they got friendly greetings and was served immediately. Food was decent but when you get the feeling like you are not welcomed it takes away the whole experience. Our kids were behaving very well so I saw no reason for the snub. This is one place that I will not be returning to with or without the kids. There are way better options around.

Six of us went for drinks before dinner at Vij’s on Valentine’s eve. Waitress was dismissive and a bit snotty. They could have sold much more if the sever paid attention. She either makes too much money or her Uncle owns the joint cause she didn’t give a damn. Tragic for the price.

Awesome place. Good prices and good atmosphere. I got the chorizo omelette and my wife got the salmon Benedict. Both excellent choices

This place is a shadow of what it used to be and has not kept up with other establishments. I remember bringing visitors here and they said this was some of the best breakfast food they ever had. I hadn’t been here in several years and ordered the bacon scrambler, asking for more hash browns as they didn’t have gluten-free bread. FYI — almost everywhere in Vancouver has gluten-free options now and so I expected they should have something. The bacon scrambler came without bacon. I made the waiter aware and he said he would bring a side of bacon, which never arrived. At a minimum, he did take 50% off the price of the scrambler, but wasn’t checking on the side of bacon. It also was only medium-busy during the time we were there. The hash browns were slightly over done and the eggs didn’t taste any different that what you can get elsewhere. All that to say, I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to come back.

Most of the menu options at Barney’s are pretty generic(burgers, quesadillas, pasta, etc.) and there isn’t a lot of selection for vegetarians. I ended up going with a spinach/artichoke/feta quesadilla. While it was pretty good, it would have been nice if it came with sides like some rice or refried beans. I really did enjoy the homemade salsa though. Overall my visit to Caffe Barney was pretty average. There wasn’t too much to differentiate it from a typical chain restaurant like Earls or Moxies. Pro-tip: they have a patio out back that they don’t really advertise. If it’s a nice night, make sure to ask if they have space. It is pretty small but you might get lucky.

The food was horrible and the worst breakfast potatoes I’ve had in 20 years. The scrambler eggs tasted like IKEA eggs and the bagel tasted like a stale Dempster’s bagel. I had to send it back once before getting a new dish that was equally as bad. Basically, I could have made this better at home for a fraction of the cost with top quality organic products and not frozen tasting food. It used to be very good many years ago but today it’s only suitable if you are severely hung over and wouldn’t know the difference between cardboard and food. Never going back. The service was adequate and I also saw a mouse running around. Disgusting. You may as well go to Milestone’s, Denny’s or White Spot if you want a breakfast to handle your hang over.

Serves a variety of eggs benny and I had the traditional ham one. The poached eggs were slightly runny and the creamy hollandaise has a hint of lemon zest. It comes with roasted potatoes and I thought this all-day breakfast dish was prepared well and as expected. Will come back again if have a craving for eggs benny or want somewhere casual to grab a bite. In the afternoon and evening, this place will likely turn into a pub/lounge.

I’ve passed by this place so many times thinking it was just a bar/café type place. Just this weekend, I was searching on Unilocal for brunch places after I picked up BF from an eye exam he was having. As soon as I saw there were eggs benedict I was sold. I have a severe weakness for poached eggs smothered in hollandaise sauce with tasty vegetable goodies. PATIOALERT! It was a lovely sunny afternoon and we got to sit out on the patio. There were some big umbrellas for shade, and some full-sun spots too. We started out with an iced tea for BF and an iced coffee for me. I had the Commando Eggs Benny with brie, asparagus, and fresh tomatoes. There was a miniscule amount of brie, but a nice helping of asparagus and tomatoes, and definitely no stinginess on the hollandaise. BF had the BLTC(bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar). He said it was good, but he would have preferred the bacon made fresh(it was cold, like it’d been prepped in the morning) and maybe a bit saucier(more mayo?). Overall though he said it was good – a good size with lots of fillings like romaine lettuce not iceberg. Unfortunately both our taters(BF had french fries, I had hash browns) were overdone, like they’d been left in the deep fryer too long. The fries came without salt and the hash browns had no seasoning either. Our server was attentive, prompt, and friendly. It wasn’t too busy, but we were there on a weekday around noon. The patio was half-full and from the looks of it, she was the only server on duty(not counting the bartender at the front or the kitchen staff). I was not blown away, but the 3 stars are solid.

My local brunch spot. Thank you for your pulled pork egg bennies! Not such a great choice of beers so I don’t drop by much in the evenings. Wasn’t a fan of their burger at all, the quality was really poor, but the brunches make up for it!

I went for brunch with a couple friends a couple Saturdays ago. I have no complaints about the service, it was typical — neither excellent nor terrible, just average. This review isn’t based on service, it’s the food. I had the basic 2 eggs, bacon, potato & toast option. I think it was $ 11. If you’re going to charge $ 11 for something it should be better than what I can pay $ 2.95 for at Bön’s. Eggs were ordered scrambled and came undercooked and slimy, bacon was limp and mediocre in flavour, and the potatoes were just deep fried chunks that tasted like they had been using the same oil for days. Absolutely underwhelmed. I will not return.

I’ve been here a few times with girlfriends for drinks and food later in the evening, and it’s been decent. However I went with my husband today for lunch and was a little disappointed. The food took forever, the waitress wasn’t very attentive, and I felt the value I got for my dollar was pretty poor. $ 15 for a «Crab Cake Salad» which involved 2 small crab cakes that probably came out of a package, a head of butter lettuce sliced and hardly even separated, a half an avocado, and about a ¼ each of an apple and a tomato on top of the lettuce. It tasted fine but definitely too expensive. They didn’t even seat us properly. She said«For two? Lots of room.»(There wasn’t.) Short version — decent for drinks in the evening, but I don’t think I’ll go there for lunch again.

This place has good breakfast. It is pricey and that’s why I got in on Father’s Day without waiting. Typical Vancouver bring lots of cash to park out on the street, $ 3.00 for an hour 7 days a week, 9:00AM until 10:00PM. Waitress was great, very helpful we had two young children with us. No children’s menu but waitress was very accommodating splitting a menu item for the kids. Caffe Barney displayed the Amex sign but wouldn’t take the card.

It seems as though most of my reviews are about drinking… well friends, so begins my month of sobriety. This month my reviews will not be funny, but be boring and dry — literally. So here we go… I had brunch here with the BF — he had the asparagus, pesto and cheese sandwich thing and I had some veggie omelet and subbed fries for the hash — never been a fan of hash personally. I was happy to get some Frank’s red hot on that shit to spice it up a bit, cuz it was pretty average(like this review so far). I sat, I ate I conquered, I don’t know what else to say… something really feels like it’s missing… oh right probably the drinks. Who’s idea was this again? Survival of day one accomplished. FML.

I’ve been letting Barney cook for me for years now and I can tell you the food is good, especially the until 4pm brunch menu(smoke salmon scramble FTW). The burger on the dinner menu is also a tasty treat, make sure to get the bacon and cheese and mushrooms. They have a poutine which is amazing but it’s not on the main menu, you have to check the specials board. All in all I’ve had great service and great food every time at Barney’s on Granville.

Went there for Sunday Lunch at High Noon after a some shopping on Granville Street. The Café was busy but not packed. To «Save Money» instead of having a Host /Hostess greet and seat you the Bartender does it from behind the bar. When we got to the table she directed us to from behind the bar a Dude at the next table said to me is this your«table»(Like ask the Management Dude) My chair was a worn bar booth that was too shot for the table the Café is using. The server came to take our orders and I decided on a Hamburger and my guest decided on Veggie Burger. The kitchen was busy so it took a while to get our food no biggie we where not in a rush. It was during the wait I noticed the music was little to loud to have a normal conversation. Just before the food came the Server dropped a bottle of Ketchup on the table the top of the bottle had been lost long ago and to «Save Money» they put little paper cup as bottle top«cute» maybe. My Hamburger was OK except to «Save Money» the bun was low quality. I ordered mushrooms and gravy with my burger both extra so the burger came to about $ 13 a little high priced for what it was. The Veggie Burger patty was OK but again the bun was bad and my guest did not eat hers. My guest ordered the yam fires they look a bit burnt to me. The Café to «Save Money» uses the cheapest thinnest paper napkin(s) they can find. At the end of the meal when i used the restroom I walked by the kitchen /dish-washing area all i can say it could have looked much better. Overall I been to better breakfast /lunch Cafes in town. To get a «Better Value» in a café I will go somewhere else next time I want to go for lunch on Granville street. After a fair bit of thought I say this place is one star at this time I walked to the Café did not notice if they have bike rack in front but i know there are many bike racks and parking meters to lock your bicycle to on Granville street

I’m definitely a breakfast/brunch + shopping girl. So this morning, my friend and I decided to start our day off with Caffe Barney + South Granville. Upon entering, there is a bar area to the right with some booths and more table seating in the back. The waitress originally seated us in the back where it was dark and kind of depressing so we asked to sit near the front windows to enjoy the sunlight. I got the breakfast burrito which was absolutely DELICIOUS. I’m quite picky with my burritos(once again, the California girl in me loves her authentic mexican food & irreplaceable chipotle) so for me to really like this burrito means a lot. This is actually the first time I’ve LIKED any burrito in Vancouver! The texture of the tortilla was extra thick and seemed to have more substance than your regular tortilla… the edges were crispy and the taste was not corn-y at all. And I loved that the burrito cut nicely while I ate it and didn’t lose it’s shape and fall to pieces with my first knife jab. It came with toast and breakfast potatoes and OMG I don’t know how they fry or cook or what they add to these potatoes but gawd they are GOOD. Most breakfast entrees are around ~$ 10. Service was good(I’ve read some bad reviews about their servers but maybe I got lucky?), food was great and love the location. Would come back again to try more!
