Great congee. Decent neighbourhood restaurant. Service can improve slightly. The restaurant has been around since my highschool era almost 19 years ago. Hk style congee place.

Have only tried a few things here. Most of it is just so-so — they put some decent Canto flavor in it, but its a little overpriced and not mind blowing in any way — but two dishes that are worth coming for are the Love Bird Fried Rice(aka honeymoon fried rice or ying yern fan), and the wet beef chow hoa fun. I love ying yern fan, and I grew up eating it every couple months when we would come visit family here and I was crazy about it! While it’s not perfect, their rendition of it comes pretty darn close. It’s a beautiful and delicious mix of half red sauce and half white sauce over rice, with chicken and shrimp and egg for protein. The trick is to eat each side separately first, and then try both together, and feel your taste buds jump for joy. :o) It’s definitely more of a saucy dish, so if you like canto/Hong kong-style cuisine, then you will love it too. Don’t order anything else, just come here and get this and you won’t regret it.

This place was very popular in the mid 90s. I use to love the dumplings in soup. It’s still open but food is not as good as before. This restaurant is pretty small. Service is ok.

I had been living in Marpole for 10 years. The main strip of the area is 63rd and 71st Avenue. there is at least 12 restaurants in that area. I visit 4 of them regularly and Daimo is one of them. Daimo is the least expensive of the four. You can get a nice and hot bowl of wonton for 7 bucks. Fresh too. Some of my other fav are preserve duck egg and salted pork. They also have Chinese business lunch for $ 8.5. There is Singapore fried vermicelli. Taste good but lack of protein. Slice beef with hor fan(flat and wide noodles). My fav is beef brisket in hor sin sauce with rice, which is the best one of the bunch. Generally I found their to be fast and hot. The washroom is reasonably clean and have hot water, which is good sign they care for their hygiene. I don’t go there for dinner too often but when i do, I like their lover bird fried rice. Yeah, it is standard stuff but it is cheap. If you want a fresh and hot lunch, this is one of the better place for Chinese food in Marpole.

Service was good. Tea was consistently refilled. Waitresses were polite. There is one waitress that will only speak in Chinese but it seems she can understand you when you speak English as well. You can catch on to what she says even if it’s all in Chinese. Food was decent. The only error to it was WAY too much MSG. It comes to the point where at some points when you bite into some part of it, the MSG hasn’t fully dissolved and it crackles in your mouth. –2 Stars due to MSG issue.

4 stars for nostalgia, I’ve lived in the«pole» for over ten years and daimo has always been my go to quickie noodle place. One of the waitresses that works there is almost always frowning… BUT whenever she gets a new perm/hairdo she is happy and smiling for WEEKS! Fun place and yummy noodles :)

Stuck in the 90’s. Daimo used to be a really popular place back 10+ years ago in its original location on Main and 16th. Since it moved to South Granville, it looks like the business is in a steady decline. Still go for the convenience and the nostalgia of what Chinese fast food use to be like, without the pretentious service and menus. They have $ 8.50 lunch specials on weekdays. Ordered the Pan Fried Beef with Hor Fun. Comes with soup as well. This place is usually a good Greasy Spoon Chinese restaurant if you want noodles or fried rice etc. Nothing fancy. Cheap. Overall 3+. I would not hesitate to bring family or non-Asian friends to this place.

The food and prices are pretty decent BUT my mouth was very dry afterwards and you know what that means… super MSG! We had an order of deep fried wings and 2 bowls of noodles. The wings were perfect and the noodles ok for the price. If it wasn’t for the MSG attack, I’d give this place a 3.

I was running late for a meeting today and had to grab a very quick lunch so decided to pop into Daimo Noodle Express for a bowl of wonton noodles. Daimo is one of those no frills Chinese restaurants where you come for a cheap and fast meal with zero expectation of good service. In fact, coming to Daimo, you should not really expect ANY service. When I walked in, one of the waitresses gave me a «go anywhere you want» wave of the hand and disappeared into the kitchen. Other than the one or two sentences we exchanged when ordering, I never saw the lady again until it was time to pay. That was all well and fine with me to be honest as nobody comes to Daimo for the good conversation. At just over $ 5 a bowl, Daimo has one of the better quality wonton noodle offerings in the city. I have tried wonton noodles in dozens of establishments across the city and there are few that can compare to Daimo’s take on this simple yet classic dish. First off, the broth is very clean and flavorful. Served piping hot from one of the many metal vats in the kitchen, the soup is the perfect level of saltiness without that unpleasant MSG’y aftertaste you sometimes get. The noodles are cooked well, soft and tender but still chewy. This noodle type is very easy to cook incorrectly as it is meant to keep its structure but still be soft and chewy. Lastly, the all important prawn wontons are why I keep coming back to Daimo. Generously stuffed with real prawn meat, there is none of that unpalatable filler paste you find at some cheaper establishments. The wonton wrap breaks apart easily in the soup to expose the slightly pink prawn. As a parting note, I will mention that although cheap, the wonton noodle serving is not altogether that filling. If you are a big eater, you could quite easily polish off two bowls on your own and still be asking for more. I ordered a second dish called ‘sui gao’ which is another famous Chinese dumpling in soup. It too has prawn but also mushrooms and some other ingredients. Overall, a cheap and fast meal that was perfect for that man or woman on the go! For just over $ 10 all in(tips are not really expected) it was a pretty good meal.

Met here with some girlfriends for a quick dinner before heading nearby to their home. IT’s pretty typical of a Hong Kong restaurant. No frills décor and waitresses will need to be beckoned if you need anything. They were pretty good I must say for refilling our teas without request. That is not necessarily an automatic thing in most Chinese restaurants. I ordered a big plate of shredded pork and veggie rice noodles for $ 8.50. Definitely had some leftovers. They do not skimped on portions. The place has cheap food, standard selection of congee, rice and noodles. Pretty basic stuff. I would only probably go here if I’m in the area and have a craving for the usual Chinese cuisine. You do not come to these kinds of restaurants for great service or cool atmosphere. Quickly eat and get out sorta thing. As per usual with most Chinese restaurants like this, it is CASH only.

Being in Vancouver for a few days, you’re bound to want to try some local Chinese cuisine. We decided that noodles would be a quick a perfect light lunch before we took the bus to downtown. The noodles were ok, the veggies were decent, the beef balls were nothing like back home. I’m not a connoisseur of beef balls, but these ones were hard and tasteless. What really killed me was seeing the waitress fill up a pitcher of water from the sink in their storage closet… yeah, none of us drank water during the meal regardless of how thirsty we were. Price was cheap, each dish was under $ 6. Cash only. And no, I won’t come back.

Clean with good wait-service. Ate here for the first time on a visit from Seattle with the family. We ordered Sampan(Hong Kong Style) congee, sauteed chicken noodles, curry brisket over rice, and the wings. The Hong Kong style milk tea wasn’t bad and the food was delicious. Maybe my bar is set low, coming form Seattle, but I’ll definitely be trying it again when I visit next time. 4 dishes + 3 drinks ran us about $ 40 + change. Cheers!

Stopped in for a little comfort food — warm noodles on a chilly day. I placed an order for mushroom and vegetable noodles and split for 20mins. When I came back the order still wasn’t ready and no one seemed to care. Another customer gave me a knowing look… turns out her food had been sitting there getting cold for awhile. I only paid $ 5 for the noodles and shouldn’t have expected much… but I really think Mr. Noodles(with the addition of a couple mushrooms) would have been better and way faster. I couldn’t finish my lunch and found some leftovers in the fridge at work to pick at instead.

I went to a comedy show recently and the guy reminded me one thing about Chinese restaurants. When you walk in, you rarely get a «Hi, how are you?» to start, generally you’ll just get a stern«HOWMANY?». Daimo was no exception, but hey, maybe one day. We ordered pork and preserved egg congee, prawn wonton soup, and spring rolls. Congee was fresh and of standary quality, though the prawn wonton and spring rolls lacked taste. Value wise, this meal was only $ 13 and change for 2 of us, hence the 3 stars. Average fare, and CASH only. On a side note, at least I got a smile from the server when I asked for the bill.

A clean little Cantonese bistro in Marpole serving noodle, congee and rice plates. Its menu is quite extensive and prices are also reasonable. For my dinner tonight, I had beef brisket on rice. Flavour was good and the brisket pieces had perfect portions of fat and lean meat. Portion was generous for my $ 7.65 order and I had left over to take away. My only complaint which I find very common(and annoying) in Vancouver — Cash Only.
