Historique

Fondé en 1985.

Lucia is known as the «Brazilian Queen» and has been in the esthetics business for over 25 years. All started in one room above the Starbucks in Kitsilano until she decided to open up on the street level. The first Dona Lucia Esthetics Salon is located in the heart of Kitsilano and specializes in all esthetics services, including manicures, pedicures, skincare, and waxing. In November 2010, we opened our second location on Georgia Street, where we provide the same quality services for our clients and visitors in downtown Vancouver. Dona Lucia Esthetics is known for its great prices because Lucia feels that every woman should be able to afford to have a little pampering.

I enjoyed sitting at a patient’s bedside, talking to them about their lives while I giving a mini-manicure. Special bonds were created and that’s when I knew I wanted to get into esthetics. Anyone can give a manicure or pedicure, but what I look for is that connection you can have with someone when they tell you about themselves.»

Would definitely recommend for threading, they’re great and it is really affordable. 8 $ for eyebrows and its usually done in 5 minutes! They get pretty busy so its best to book an appointment but you can usually do walk in for a quick service like brow threading as well.

I will not go anywhere else for waxing. I go to Fatima and she is amazing. She is so nice, professional, gentle and FAST.
The price is right, the location is convenient and other than their online booking system not working (they’ve told me to call and book rather than gambling on whether or not the online booking system will work), this place is great.

I went for my Brazilian, half leg wax, eyebrows, and basic facial. The people who worked on me was very nice and they did a great job. The price is a steal. The staff was all great. Just some unprofessional… When it was not busy the eyebrow ladies were eating there lunch on their balcony and the manager was eating her lunch in the hallway. I guess it’s a causal place not super professional or relaxing. If you want a great price, casual experience, good service check them out but don’t have too much expectations on ambiance. The facial room was not pleasant. Super tight and uncomfortable. You pay for what you get though… Waxing lady was quick, professional, clean and I highly recommend her. 30 $

I only let Poonam touch my eyebrows. She’s been tending them for a couple of years now, and it’s always tough when she’s away for extended periods of time! Waxing services are a bit inconsistent, and so I haven’t found «the one» for me. Overall it’s a great location, and the price is so reasonable for what you get ($ 11 for upper lip & brows — 3x cheaper than somewhere like Bombay Brow Bar).

1^st time here the girl messed up my eyebrows she took too much off and when I Asked the girl to change the towel for my Brazilian because I saw these white patches on it. She refused and insisted that it was clean but I was already there and needed the service but I regretfully stayed. I’ve been to the downtown location and I’ve had wonderful experiences but this sister location should work on their skills and costumer service. I would never again go back.

As soon as you walk in you can feel the tension between the staff. It’s like they all dislike each other and are at competition with one another for customers. The receptionist has zero interest in helping clients and lacks any personality. I’ve come for threading which isn’t bad but had a Brazilian once and the room was so dirty! Wax on the beds and floors and hairs everywhere.
Just terrible.

Dona Lucia has the worst customer service. I spent three days trying to get through to them on the phone, continually being put on hold for 15 minutes at a time. I finally asked if I could just leave my number so they could call me back and the girl said «no, you have to wait on hold».
When I have managed to get through to them and book an appointment I often feel rushed in the salon and not very well taken care of. The girls at the front desk are not friendly or welcoming at all.

I had my eyebrows threaded here. They were quick and speedy, so they missed a few stray hairs. They were kind of rude and didn’t talk to me much. I don’t live in the area anyway, so I won’t be back.

Got my eyebrows threaded, only cost $ 8 which was nice but she missed some hairs and didn’t have very good bedside manor. She did it very quick and I felt rushed out.

This place is awesome. Every one of the lovely ladies that do eyebrow threading have done a wonderful job for me. I’ve been going here since they first opened and I have never been disappointed. I would recommend them to anyone. They have wonderful customer service.
If you need a pedicure, eyebrow threading, waxing, or even a sari tied, this is the best place to go in Kits.

I tried this place a few times and sadly I got horrible job on my eyebrows and my briazillian waxing since I was new in vancouver I kept going then I got recommendation from one of my friend to go to Simin in pomegranate spa which was just ²⁄₃ min walking distance from Lucinda.
She is so professional fast efficient and her waxing and eyebrow threading is number one.
I don’t know why some people try to save a few bucks and ending up with a horrible job.
It’s easy to book with Simin (604−805−7578) just I need to text her and she gets back to me so quickly.

I’m writing this review again, as it mysteriously disappeared. The estitician they had booked for me was late for my appointment. When I arrived they didn’t know where she was and couldn’t find her. When she finally showed up for my appointment, she did not even apologize for making a very pregnant woman wait. I think she might be the owner. She talked way too much during the appointment, with some topics I found inappropriate or unprofessional to boot. What I really wanted to do was chat with the person I came with. She never asked if I was comfortable. The pedicure itself was painful. She was rough and her fingernails dug into me. The nail polish job was not very good at all (I’ve posted a picture), and the service itself I found overpriced and not worth the $ 40. All in all, the whole place seemed unprofessional. This is probably the worst experience I’ve had at a nail salon. We won’t be going back again. Very disappointing. If my review goes missing again, I’m going to have to really question how Unilocal works.

I came in for some tootsie TLC — my feet were pleading for a pedi. One of the most attentive services I’ve had to date, Fatima was amazing. My feet were rough and calloused before, now they’re silky smooth with no half-assed ridges (my biggest pet peeve after shelling out for a pedi)
Mid-priced pedicure, but I was impressed. They line you up on a comfy bench (no massage chairs here) but throw some stones in for an extra foot massage while your feet are soaking. My $ 50 pedicure (with paraffin treatment) was well worth it, in my opinion. I’ll be back to see Fatima.

I am a regular at the kits location and I am usually the type of person who books the day of, online, and gets whichever aesthetician is available. I have never been dissatisfied, nor blown away with the service until today. I met with Dalvir for a brazilian and underarms wax and was completely blown away with her professionalism, and the genuine care I felt she was giving me. She talked to me about what is in the product that they use, and how I can best tackle my ingrown hair situation. She was not much older than myself, but I can now say that I will ask for her every single time that I go there.
I have been going there for over 4 years as well. Always a great place and a good deal.

This was my first time to this nail salon, and I decided to go here after reading the many good reviews on Unilocal,and their location is close to my home. I called to book an appointment during business hours a few days before I wanted a service and no one picked up the phone so I booked a pedicure online on their website. My online reservation receipt said I was booked in with Michelle and confirmed my appointment time.
I walked in and the place looked really nice, and clean.
I told the receptionist I was here for my appointment and with whom I was booked in with. They couldn’t find my reservation in the system and said they couldn’t take me in as they were already booked up. The let me know that their online booking system is really inconsistent capturing the appointment information, so that was likely the reason my appointment time didn’t show up. It’s a problem with their online booking system.
They let me know if I book online again I should also email them or call them to let them know that I booked an appointment to make sure they got the reservation.
They didn’t offer to rebook me on the spot or offer a discount on a service if I rebooked. All they asked me was what I wanted do: go home and think about coming back or give them my info so I could try to rebook online again with an account.
There are many other nail salons in the the Kits area; I see no need to try to take a risk booking an appointment at this salon again, I will go elsewhere.

I’ve been in for brazilians routinely for a couple of years, tolerating the treatment room conditions because $ 28 is a good deal. I had some good waxes, but some were just kind of rushed and not very thorough (missed areas, lots of in-growns).
Above all else, I always hated the treatment table with the ridiculous hospital paper covering the «plastic tablecloth» type material. The paper would always rip or stick to my body, and I just kept wondering how clean that plastic was underneath the paper…
On a whim, I decided to try another waxing establishment in Kits (only 5 blocks away). Did you know that for $ 7 more you can have a comfortable, clean treatment bed with a fresh soft towel covering the whole thing? Your wax won’t be rushed, and you will have better and longer lasting results. I wish I would have made the switch sooner, and I post this link to my review of the new place because I don’t think girls on a budget should have to «settle» and because I think DL needs to step it up or they will loose other customers besides me.

Okay girls, this is the best place to get your Brazilian done!!! This is coming from a girl who promised herself to never ever do a Brazilian after her last experience in another place! Yes, it WILL hurt but this place… makes it as good as it gets. The owner Lucia does a great job and you can tell she is a professional at her job, she even knows when exactly to open up which conversation, to make sure you concentrate on the conversation and feel minimum pain. She also does the full leg waxing amazingly fast… especially if you have long legs and all the other people who have done your legs used to complain. this lady did it in minutes.
I also had my full face threaded including the eyebrows. I didn’t get any rashes or break outs. Most importantly, the lady who did my eyebrows (didn’t get her name sry) did it exactly how I told her to do it. Thick yet shaped and keeping the length without taking too much form the beginning.
Overall it was an amazing experience. Also, while getting my waxing done, I told Lucia that I am picky about my eyebrows, so she went and made sure I was getting the best threading girl there. I thought that was such a nice gesture from her! =)

Looking to replace the place I used to go to that shut down *tears*. Went to another threading place and had a horrible experience and thought I’d give Dona Lucia a shot considering the good reviews I see here and also the reasonable prices stated on their website.
I think the lady who did my threading did an okay job. I can say it’s not as clean or thorough as the lady I used to go to. The website states 30 minutes but it took about 15 minutes tops (my parking meter proves this).
I’d come back again in a pinch, but I’m still on the hunt for an amazing threading place like the one I used to go to.
