I understand it is a different country, and understand it is in a popular location. What I don’t understand is why I’m paying $ 12 for a 6 pack(cans)of PBR, and in case you’re wondering, yes, that’s the cheapest beer. The local alcoholics must dred coming here. There is a fine line between reasonable, and milking it. Because of the convenience do I give them a 2 star.

I live a stone’s throw away from this liquor store, and the next closest one to me is about a kilometer away, but I would still never go back to this place. I want to be very clear that this is not a review for Jimmy’s Tap House, but a review of the liquor store attached to it. As with any non-B.C. Liquor Store, the prices are higher, but the beer and other select drinks are kept in a fridge. The prices and the products are not the reason I won’t go back though. The reason is because they’re extremely rude people. I’m a pretty easy customer, and I don’t have to be best friends with the people at the front desk. All I ask for is a greeting, and a goodbye. This place can’t even offer that. The times I had gone, I always felt like I was receiving as little acknowledgment as possible. Obviously, staffers are going to be talking with one another, but entire transactions would be carried out without so much as eye contact. Then, when you’ve paid, they won’t even put change in your hand, but on the counter. On one particular occasion, one of the managers was in a heated argument with the homeless guy who is frequently out front. While I don’t know the exact context of what happened or who started what, the manager kept yelling homophobic slurs at the homeless guy, which was an uncomfortable situation to say the least. Regardless of this, however, I would probably still never have gone back.

I come here for the occasional beer pick ups, and when I’m in the mood for some wine or sake. This store is small and doesn’t have everything, but has close to it. It’s pricier but it’s convenient because they open late and open on holidays when government stores probably aren’t.

I’ll come here if I can’t make it to the Govermeng Liquor Store, but it is more expensive and there is always some scumbag out front begging for change.

Obviously more expensive than the BCL but great staff and good selection keep me coming back

Definitely the best located place for me, and for others who live inconveniently between the Yaletown and W Hastings govt. liquor shops. It’s a tiny little place, but they pack a good selection inside. A few Mexican beers(no Dos Equis!) are always a win for me. The wine selection is set up by region– you’ve got a fair amount of Australian, Californian, Canadian, and the others… I love that this place is a few steps away from Marketplace. After I pick up something to make for dinner, I can easily swing in to grab a complimentary beverage.

I defaulted to this place once when all the neighbouring government-run ones were closed. As Mercedes G previously noted, the priced were much steeper than BC Liquor Stores. But beggars can’t be choosers so we forked out the added $ 7 for gin and paid nearly $ 40 for the Tanqueray. One good thing, though, is that they were having a special on Captain Morgan’s, which bode well with my companion’s pirate costumer(it was Halloween).

Situated relatively close to my abode, Jimmy’s is my regular beer and wine of choice. They have a decent amount of stock, good beers, a great selection of wines and spirits for such a tiny space… all at noticabley high prices. What’s a girl to do when no government liquor stores reside close by? Head to Jimmy’s and suck it up. The staff is very knowledgable and always up for a laugh, making it easier to ignore the inevitable price tag.
