Good teppanyaki restaurant but not somewhere I would frequent on a regular basis. We ordered two drinks and one of the set menus with prawns, chicken, steak, veggies and dessert, which came out to about $ 120+. Makes for a good date night since the chefs put on a bit of a show.

This place is packed! Their appetizer tuna sashimi is really good! We ordered steak and prawns, and steak and lobster. Lobster was a bit overcooked. The mustard sauce is to die for! Chef Gaddy was so nice and so are our servers that night. Cons would be, first, their washroom is all the way on the first floor and we were seated on the third floor! I suggest if you’re getting hammered with sake or the famous buddha drink, ask for a seat on the second floor(still quite a trip but thats the best option). Second, the people at the front are disorganized. I am frankly upset how they never seated us at the lounge and let the others sit first!(We were a group of 8, but I believe that’s not an issue at all). Third would be the space for the seats. Way too close to each other.

Would not go again ever not even if it was free. WAY over priced and food quality is poor. I had the steak and my wife had the chicken. The chicken had no flavor and was dry. The steak was not tender and tasted like is was from superstore. Been to others and they are much better

Got pulled in by the $ 40 value appetizers for two for $ 25 on Groupon. The four appetizers was a set menu of the spicy dynamite roll, chicken karaage, ebi mayo and chili garlic calamari. When we walked in they walked us all the way upstairs and then when we told them we are only interested in the appetizers they dragged us back down even though we made a reservation and told them before hand. The chairs downstairs were low couches with awkward tables which are not ideal for eating and more of a drink setting. The dynamite roll was so delicious, we decided to have two dynamite rolls and take out the ebi mayo. It was one of the best sushi’s I have had in Vancouver. The chicken karaage was really tasty but the lime and green chili hot sauce ruined the dish. The shredded cabbage didn’t go with the chicken and was flavorless. Lastly, the garlic calamari was the worse calamari I have had at a restaurant. It was definitely not up to par with an average restaurant or bar. The service was friendly, and I might go back and just order all four appetizers as the spicy dynamite roll.

Bad service with mediocre food. I used to love going to Kobes as a child but I no longer do. I have come to realize, both service and food quality as gone down. The servers are generally pretty nice but can be very useless lol. I say this because they all seem to not know much about their dishes/drinks. The chefs are always good, they do put on a great/exciting show! Food is definitely very basic for the price you pay. I would only recommend the dishes that is cooked in front of you, do NOT get the tapas, they always taste horrible. Also, I noticed they changed their DM/Manager and I must say, what a JERK he is. I’ve witness him yell at the servers and the chefs for no apparent reason. I would literally see servers asking him about something and he would brush them off and ignore them. He gives off a bad vibe.

Overall, an interesting experience that is worth at least once. Had the steak set($ 46) that came with a Hibachi steak, vegetables, rice, soup. Had a two beverages and after the mandatory service fee(we weren’t in a large group, but you sat with about 8 people total), bill came to about $ 75. Not cheap. The food was alright, at times the steak was tough, but the theatrics of the chef cooking the food in front of you was enjoyable-but probably not worth the price of admission considering you can get better quality elsewhere.

FANTASTIC food. I had the Teppan Shrimp– the highlight of dinner at the Kobe has always been the shrimp(for me at least) so this dish was perfect! The ginger sauce is a MUST. Everything is cooked on the table in front of you and the chef jokes and sets things on fire. It’s always an impressive show. AMAZING Service. What really stood out to me about this particular meal was the chef.(I didn’t catch his name but he mentioned he’d been there for 4 years). We’d come in spur of the moment just the two of us, and were seated with two other couples and a family of 4. The chef went out of his way to make everyone at the table feel welcome. It’s really the chef who makes the experience.

Overpriced and dated(x 1000). Thank goodness we used our groupon discounts for this place! I can’t imagine people paying $ 80 a plate for overcooked 80’s food. And the chef, while pleasant enough, certainly did not have the same presence as my last experience at a place similar to this 30 years ago. My advice — don’t go if you don’t have a coupon that shaves more than 50% off the regular prices. Also, watch out for the restaurant applying a tip percentage based on the regular prices which you were not charged. That was the icing on the cake.

Dinner and Show. The chef cooks the food right in front of you and does a show as well(flipping food up in the air, making flames etc). If you have a smaller party you will be seated with other people. Food was excellent and worth the price. My recommendation is to make sure you tell the hostess you do not want to sit at a table with children(what happened to me on my first time here) as they chef will not put on as vibrant as a show due to children getting freaked out by the flames and crying. Recommend.

Not so good anymore… used to just love it. Really unsatisfied. I couldn’t even eat the sushi, was terrible. The sever did nothing about it. Definitely won’t be coming back, Even with a Groupon! Nothing worse than a restaurant that you think is reliable for a good experience then turns downhill. sad, Sad, SAD! …& my tummy hurts now.

Came by for teppanyaki on a Friday night and used an Entertainment Book 2 for 1 coupon. This is an old building and the spaces are tight. We made reservations(recommended on the weekends) and were seated as soon as we arrived. The servers were slow to come take our drink orders. I ordered the steak and prawns and a bottle of a Vancouver Island brewery IPA. Unfortunately they do not have any draft beers but they do have a fairly large selection of bottled beers(and wine). The chef was very entertaining as one would expect at a teppanyaki experience. The food was cooked to order and done quite well… no complaints on the cooking. And there is quite a bit of food. I really enjoyed and would recommend the steak and chicken dipping sauce they put out… very tasty with plenty of garlic. The service staff were pleasant but at times they seemed to be somewhat confused. Other than our clothes coming out smelling like bbq, it was a very positive food experience.

Treated to dinner here by a friend and was overwhelmed by how friendly everyone on the staff was. Our chef provided not only one of the best dinners I’ve had in a long while, but entertainment and a open friendly attitude. Everything was cooked perfectly and with a theatrical flair that I had only previously enjoyed as a highlight in movies. Absolutely would go again, actually eager to. Couldn’t offer a stronger recommendation.

Really pricey, but fresh ingredients for sure. And our chef was very amicable and entertaining. I asked for a medium rare filet mignon… I got a well done steak instead.

Due to the low reviews in Unilocal we didn’t have high expectations going in. Our friends we went with had a groupon which was a good deal. They do the meals in sittings so we waited in the bar first until they had enough people for our table. We were on the third floor. Once we were there everything went like clockwork. The food was good and I was pretty full at the end. We had a bit of everything, shrimp, chicken and beef finishing off with ice cream. There were 4 grills on our floor and some of the vents weren’t that good so there was a lot of smoke once the cooking started. To the point that my eyes were burning a little. Our chef did a good job but his skills where he was expecting an applause from the table wasn’t amazing. All in all it was a good evening with friends, if you’ve never been to a place like this it’s different and worth a visit for the experience. I don’t suppose we’ll be back as there are so many nice restaurants to go to in Vancouver. I also read about the high prices, having the groupon certainly cut the costs for us.

They grilled those mushrooms to perfection guys. TOPERFECTION. So yeah, super pricey. But pretty damned entertaining and deliciously lovely. Genuinely sad to see the meal end. Hmm… and still hungry.

Over priced for a food court quality meal. The chef purposely place few 20 dollars bill half way in his shirt pocket to hint people to tip him, very grease ball move considering everything is very expensive. We spent nearly $ 800 and there was a 18% gratuity. The chef also rushed each dish and left as quickly as possible.

The food was marginal at best, given the prices. We were surprised that they overcooked the teriyaki chicken?! The meat was tough and dry. The«show» by the chef was so amateurish that we felt sorry for him. Also, what is up with big breasted hostesses? It is a restaurant not a «gentlemen club»! Cleavage will not make the food better. In one word — «disappointed».

I used to love coming to Kobe for their teppenyaki but I haven’t been for a while so I can’t really comment on their main menu. However, I had a groupon so we decided to try out their izakaya menu since it was a great deal and we felt like Japanese food. Overall, the food was okay and the service was prompt. The tuna avocado dish was quite good while the ebi mayo was average. My favourite item was probably the chicken karrage, which had an amazing sweet chills dip. Overall, this was a great place to hang out but since the izakaya only takes up the bottom floor, I’m not exactly sure what the rest of the restaurant is like now. We found it quite strange how they let several children into the lounge though. There were people clearly drinking alcohol a few feet away from this elementary school kid and we were shocked that there were mothers who had brought their babies! I understand that the BC liquor laws have changed but I just felt that it was inappropriate to take children to a place where there were drunk men swearing, waitresses dressed in provocative manner and of course, the alcohol! The children did not bother me in any way but I certainly wouldn’t want my 5-year old cousin to be exposed to this sort of night life at such a young age!
