Friendly staff and good food. Enjoyed the beef cheeks special. Wine by the glass selection could be better. Surprised it wasn’t that busy on a Friday night, so seems to have lost some of its popularity over the years.

I was extremely disappointed. I got the Mushroom Ragout with Spätzle. It was very bland, and the mushrooms had a strange heavy and bland flavour. The kind you get when you prepare them a certain way. They didn’t have Bouillabaisse when I went there which is the sole reason I went there in the first place. However, I don’t know if I can go back. The Mixed Greens Hors D’Oeuvre was so plain and unoriginal that I can’t believe I paid $ 9 for it. Seemed like I paid 80% for presentation because in terms of flavour it was like something out of Safeway.

Really a fantastic restaurant. The steak is cooked perfectly basically every time.

We used to come here all the time & were sad when the original chef had to leave. We stopped coming but recently tried the restaurant again & have been back 3 times already. It’s as good as it originally was.

Like all magnificent things, it’s very simple.
It takes skill to make simple food taste this good. On my first visit to La Brasserie I went for the classics on the menu — French onion soup followed by steak frites.
The onions had been perfectly caramelised, and unlike many restaurants they avoided over-​salting to soup. The steak practically dissolved on my tongue it was so tender, the fries perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
The décor is classic brasserie and they some how managed to not make it look like a North American clunky counterfeit of a European style. It’s its own place. The staff were friendly and attentive without the horrible overly trained/​overly familiar «How are your first few bites?» that Vancouver seems to love.
The Vancouver food scene needed La Brasserie– I breathe a sigh of relief that we have a fantastic new restaurant that isn’t yet another sushi joint or a place created to be made into a chain as fast as possible– high on concept and low on quality.
Keep up the good work La Brasserie.

Food heaven!
I had the pleasure to eat several meals at La Brasserie.
1. The Brasserie Burger.
With a side of homemade fries and homemade (!!) ketchup and mayo. The burger is just delicious. They put a little salad inside the burger, yummy bacon and a ton of fried onions. The meal is huge and I could never finish it!
2. The Schnitzel.
The schnitzel itself is super delicious. The sauerkraut was a bit too sour for my taste. And the potato was also good.
3. The tartar.
The sides were the bomb. Crispy slices of baguette with olive oil and a yummy salad. The tartar itself sadly didn’t complied my taste.
4. The lamb cheeks.
Holy Moly. Never in my life did I ate meat that was so damn soft! I could easily smashed the meat with my tongue. The flavor was really strong, perfect for lamb lovers. The carrots were perfect. Not to soft not to hard.
5. The Steak.
I ate the steak 3 times. So good! I ordered them medium-​rare every time. They were on point. Soft, with an awesome smoky flavor and a bit bloody.
6. The crème brûlée.
Best. One. I. Ever. Ate!
7. The cheese plate.
3 different types of cheese. Truffle honey. Apple slices. Walnuts. A glass full of baguette slices. Just yummy!
¹⁰⁄₁₀ would return.

My wife is a huge fan of French onion soup, so this is why we went for a meal at La Brasserie. The ambience was quite cozy right away, but the waiting staff showed their true colours rather quickly: because waiters serve tables at random, we had to wait for a million years to order and then to get our drinks. Another thing that really pissed me off was that some French asshole of a customer kept taking tons of photos with flash, but no one from the staff told him to stop. Regardless, I had a dark beer, the pâté, and the schnitzel, while my wife had her onion soup with some frites on the side. The dessert we had was good. overall, the meal was rather expensive and I got terrible diarrhea afterwards, which really says it all.

We enjoyed the steak tartar with a succulent salad and lightly toasted crostini. The beer selections were well paired with the menu options. Patiently waiting our entrès from limited but rich menu.

This place was ok. I took the steak frites which unfortunately had been charred too much and had this burnt over tone which overpowered the whole dish. The cook on the steak was perfect but the flavor was ruined by the chat. The service was real good, and the price for the meal wasn’t bad, for two glasses of wine two entrees and one app it was around $ 62.

The beef tartar is amazing !

Next time we visit Vancouver we’ll have dinner there for sure.

It’s just a perfect dating spot! Nice European style decoration, soft lighting, cozy seating, and most importantly-​delicious food! I love the steak tartare as appetite and lamb for main dish. Their crème brûlée is huge and limited. Ps. The younger waitress is nicer

I popped in and sat at the bar. Over two hours later, I left with a very full and happy stomach, an hour of conversation with the two chefs in the bank, and a not-​too-​dented wallet.
Start of the Show: the rotisserie chicken. I’ve never had better; everything on the plate (red cabbage, mashed potatoes) served the holy chicken. Amazing.

I’ve been there three times and every time I enjoyed the dinner. Especially their dessert it’s super good!

Came when they opened up for dinner on a Sunday night. All of the staff are really friendly and helpful, we got caught up in a fun conversation with our chef, he was great to chat with.
We shared the pork neck which came with spatzle and sauerkraut. I would say it’s a bit on the pricey side, but it was really well cooked, really delicious. It’s fun to sit at the bar and watch them make it, and really, the spatzle was so different. We really enjoyed our meal.

Give them more time to get themselves organized, before going for dinner.
They don’t have any «specials» yet, as their chef is still getting used to the standard menu. And they clearly are still trying to figure out crowd control. 2 of us went in for dinner last night, and were refused an empty table in the centre of the room because it was set for 4 people. So they wedged us right next to another couple sitting at the window. It was cramped and awkward. 15 minutes later, most tables had cleared out, and the four seater they refused us was never filled, and suddenly we’re in an empty room, sitting 3 inches next to total strangers. C’mon, guys. Get it together! But otherwise we’re thrilled they are back open! And the food is as awesome as it always was!

I’m so happy that they are back!
The restaurant was renovated very nicely but still keeps the same warm atmosphere.
Food is always great, I had halibut tonight.
Halibut was served with beautiful yellow colour saffron sauce and chick pea fritter and veggies. Eat the fish with the fritter! Awesome combination!:)

Went here on Friday & clearly this place has changed ownership. Being unaware was our mistake, but the server trying to recommend items from their hand drawn «1 year special menu» with only 2 items on it, was tacky at best.
Ordered a bottle of champagne & asked for the regular menu. First appetizer was sold out, then the second, then the third??? The waitress brought over a small bowl of nuts & some cherry tomatoes & strawberries, which were complimentary. That’s when we realized that this place was not what we had been anticipated all day. The host & staff could hardly speak english.
This location will most likely be a sushi restaurant soon.

The interior of La Brasserie is on the small side but it’s cozy and intimate, there were booth seatings, regular tables, and seats along the bar and open kitchen. I actually wouldn’t have minded sitting by the open kitchen if there were seats open when I went in cause the action looked like a lot of fun to peer over. The restaurant had good lighting, it wasn’t over-​lit nor too dark, I personally don’t like to eat in dim settings.
The menu had some pretty inviting French classics like Moules Frites. The German palate is different to what I’m used to and that’s probably why you can find dishes like the Brasserie burger on the menu for the less adventurous ones like myself hehe. However for this occasion, we decided to try something new so I shared the French Onion Soup, Truffled Poutine, Suckling Pig, and a side of Cheese Spaetzle with my boyfriend.
Food was kind of slow for 9pm on a Saturday when the place wasn’t even busy. I found it odd that the party of two next to us got their entrees before us even though we ordered before them and we only ordered one entrée to share. Anyhow, it was my first time ever trying French Onion Soup and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. My boyfriend thought it wasn’t cheesy enough and his old workplace does a better rendition of it. The Truffled Poutine was not bad, I like the crispiness of the fries, the cheese were stringy and squeaky but there wasn’t enough gravy :(Finally, the Suckling Pig. It comes with homemade sauerkraut, schupfnudel, a German noodle, and hot mustard on the side. It was good for what it was; the pig was moist, the sauerkraut was sauerkraut, and the schupfnudel had an interesting doughy texture. The Spaetzle had a similar texture to it except it was topped and baked with cheese.
For dessert we shared the Crème Brûlée, the top caramel was thicker than I’m used to and the custard was really creamy and eggy. I want to say that I didn’t enjoy La Brasserie as much as I thought I would because I’m not too fond of German food but even the French appetizers didn’t blow me away.
I really wanted to like this restaurant especially after seeing all the high rated reviews but I think I will enjoy their brunch over their night service since nothing from this visit stood out to me. I will be back to give their brunch a shot though :)

We found some of good reviews about La Brasserie and one of high rated French restaurant.
My gal friend picked this restro for her b’day dinner, however, we all so disappointed.
When we walked in, no one came to greet us and even say hello. I saw friend already there and went over to her table without waiting.
The waiter came and asked us for a drink, however, all of my friends are non-​alcoholic drinker. Therefore, we only need a glass of water. Apparently, we could see he wasn’t happy for party of 6 were NOT order any beverage or drink. In addition, we may be a bit loud for first 20 mins especially we all speaking in Chinese and I found the staffs were looking at us with annoying impression.
Anyway, come down to food…
Fresh Shucked Oyster — noticed on the board and got from Vancouver Island. The oysters were mildly salty and subtle in brininess. For sure, NOT fresh coz tastes a bit fishy.
French Onion Soup — it was quite sweet and salty. On the flip side, it’s not very cheesy and favourable.
Steak Tartare — The worst steak tartare I had! Weird texture (poor quality of beef) and a bit sour just taste like rotten meat.
Tuna Tartare — it looked great and taste ok.
Suckling Pig — it’s smooth and moist but not impressed at all.
Steak Frites — it’s indicated as Marinated Hanger Steak on the menu, however, it just served in normal flank steak! I ordered medium rare and it looked like rare in the steak. I didn’t bother to tell them since all the above dishes were so crappy!
House Smoked Duck Breast — It’s good, mild aroma taste and tender.
Halibut Cheeks — added as side dish and it’s delicious. Pan seared perfectly.
Crème Brulee — not too sweet and pretty standard.
Chocolate Mousse — Light chocolate mousse and dates were juicy. Not I didn’t think the taste match at all.
Overall, the food and service is below average. I personally think this is place is overrated.
