Lemonade Gluten Free Bakery

My g-​free friend was having a birthday and I volunteered to bring the cake. Obviously it had to be one she could eat. I opted for some cupcakes so she count sample the different flavours. There were about 3 to choose from and some, I believe, were dairy free too.
The ladies were very sweet in helping me reserve the cupcakes. The price was good for specialty pastries.
I didn’t actually mind the cupcakes themselves. I would never say I couldn’t taste the difference, because who are you kidding? But it wasn’t dry, grainy, or overly dense. G-​free baking is usually one of those. The frosting was pretty good, and quite light.
Would I go back for myself? Probably not. I don’t need the g-​free option. But I would most definitely stop by and pick up something for a friend who needs it.

I’ve heard so much about Lemonade Gluten Free Bakery! This place always comes up in conversation whenever I’ve been looking for GF eats. I was lucky enough to try samples of their baked goods (all of which where amazing) at the Gluten Free Expo back in Jan, but haven’t had the time to stop by their location on Cambie… until just the other day.
It was smaller than I expected inside. You know what they say though, good things come in small packages. As was the case for Lemonade! Everything was displayed as soon as you walked in. Fresh loafs at the back, cookies to your right, and cakes to your left. I asked for the Double Chocolate Fudgy Brownie, Jo’s Triple Chocolate Cookie, Chocolate Almond Sparkle Cookie, PB Cookie, Quinoa Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the Double Ginger Cookie. I thought I robbed the place when by bill was only $ 8 something… That is CRAZY affordable (crazy in the best way). And it only took my boyfriend and I two days to demolish all the sweets. They all were just top notch.
You can guarantee I will be back to Lemonade GF Bakery. When I find myself back in the area, I will be sure to load back up on sweets and take advantage of their bread loafs. If you are looking for amazing GF baked goods, this is the place.

What an awesome find! You can find so many yummy gluten free items ranging from bars to cakes and several other pastry items. Got a Chocolate Caramel Silk Torte cake ordered for my daughter’s birthday. The cake was absolutely delicious.

Without a doubt the best gluten free pastry I’ve ever had. Real ingredients, nothing tasted or texturized like chemicals! What a refreshing find!

I was a kid in a candy shop as soon as I stepped into Lemonade. The gluten free pastry selection they have is incredible. As a celiac sufferer finding this little gem of a bakery was one of the best finds I could have asked for. Their pear brioches, croissants, loaf’s, muffins, everything I have tried is delicious. Their selection is the best I have ever had and trust me I’ve looked long and far!

Some of the best custom baked goods in the city come from Lemonade Gluten Free. I once indulged in a chocolate layered cake at a friends party. I wish they had this available in the shop as a regular item. It’s the best I’ve had. Seriously rich and moist.

2 years later and many, many visits since I first reviewed this place and I’m really craving the ½ star option to make this 4.5.
Wow are they good, they just bring gluten free to another level. I don’t «need» to eat gluten free but do feel better for it,. but these items (especially desserts), just taste slightly different,. not worse like most GF,. you could easily food people and noone would know.
For the love of god, open some more of these around the city,. build it and people will come. Make the place to sit an eat there even more appealing and you’d be laughing!

Amazing gluten free baking. I don’t use amazing lightly. I love the cinnamon Danish and fruit crostata. Will drive from Coquitlam just to stop in. Also had the lemon cake for my birthday, it was a hit, even with those who normally eat gluten.

Fantastically tasty gluten free baking… in fact you generally can’t tell it is gluten free. There is no wrong choice from the display case. When they first opened the service was stoic, but the staff have really become friendly now and recognize repeat customers. The food is expensive, but it worth it.

Pumpkin pie tart with pecans is soo good! This is my second time buying it in 2 weeks and it really is consistent and delicious. I can eat gluten but I opt for this gluten free pumpkin pie because its that good. I can’t stop thinking about it. The crust is crisp and flaky and the pie filling is fresh with just the right amount of sweetness. $ 5.50 is a bit steep, but at least I know Lemonade uses high quality of ingredients. Its a nice treat and totally worth it.

I was excited about trying the baked goods here since I had been craving a croissant for awhile and being celiac I have to go without. Lemonade has croissants but they were much too hard :(good attempt though. I had it with a coffee from Starbucks. I also got Vanilla short bread. This turned to dust as soon as I broke it in half to share. I tried the ginger snap cookie it was alright but a bit dry. But those chocolate almond sparkles are great! Nice and fudgey. The Banana bread loaf is very moist and we ate it even a couple days after I bought and it was still great. I. will return to try some of the desserts. The prices are a bit steep like 62 dollars for a 10 inch cake??? Ya no but the treats are otherwise are pretty affordable.

For those of us that cannot eat gluten, Lemonade is amazing. Even though I try to stay away from GF baked goods, sometimes I do have a bread craving.
The sourdough is delicious, perfectly fluffy and also vegan. They have a few vegan bread options (on the lower bread shelf and written on the board), not enough in my opinion but they are hopefully working on that…
Tried different loaves, and the passion fruit chocolate tart which was delicious. The one thing that I noticed is that the bread does not freeze well. So get it while it’s hot, literally…

This is one of the best gluten-​free bakeries you will ever have the pleasure of experiencing. If you plan to go on the weekend go early, the lines can get long by afternoon!

Lovely delicious breads and treats to enjoy whether you’re eating gluten free or not. The bread really is fantastic! Great treats to bring along with you to a friend who can’t enjoy gluten. They are very friendly and it’s a nice little shop.

There’s no substitute for the real thing, especially when it comes to traditional bread and pasta — the gluten is what makes it oh so «good» despite wreaking havoc in your gut.
Unfortunately my experience at Lemonade did nothing to change my perception of GF baking. I purchased a sourdough loaf and two chocolate cupcakes and it sadly failed to satiate my craving and left me yearning for the real stuff. Admittedly this was only 3 weeks into my new GF/​WF diet, so if you’ve been depriving yourself of baked goodies for years, I can kinda understand the enthusiasm for this place.
My partner and I eagerly split our first cupcake and man, it was SO DRY — it was painful to choke down. It was that bad, we threw the other one out! The sourdough was bland and so spongy it kind of reminded me of dense injera bread sans the sourness.
Needless to say, I was bummed. My new resolution is to indulge on traditional baked goods from time to time and just deal with the consequences. And by golly is it pricey! Just not worth the end product for me.

After realizing the benefits of being gluten free I have been on the look out for all the food options I have. If all the results are are good as Lemonade I’ll be a very happy camper.
I have picked up an assortment of tarts from here for a couple of dinners. Everything has been incredible and I actually prefer their treats to other regular bakers.

Well, well, well. …another cute gluten-​free spot the size of a shoebox, like Two Daughters Bakery in Lonsdale. There, I purchased a quinoa baguette, then, as a treat, bought a chocolate passion fruit tart. It has been a long time since I enjoyed a creamy dessert as I am dairy and egg sensitive.
Sliced and toasted the baguette… bit into it… Mmmmmmm. Beautiful crust, tender inside and tasted the way I remember wheat bread. I became an instant fan. I will definitely be going back for that.
Later, I cut the individual tart in half. Creamy texture and and interesting chocolate-​y tang (from the passionfruit). The gluten-​free crust is nice too. It was indeed good. I saved the second half for the next day.
Overall, excellent work on making a great baguette and good work on the tart. The store itself is beautifully presentable, tidy with all things available visibly displayed.

I bought a loaf of Sourdough over the Thanksgiving long weekend. $ 7.50 for a loaf. Holy mother of god that’s expensive! I bought it any way, to try. If you don’t try, you don’t know. If you don’t know, you can’t write a review.
The lady behind the counter asked if I wanted the loaf sliced, I politely declined.
I got home.
I sliced the bread myself and ate it three ways 1) at it is 2) toasted the bread with melted butter 3) crisped the sliced bread with melted butter in a pan.
Here is my observation based on eating it plain at it is. The loaf had a nice crust. The inside was surprisingly moist. There wasn’t much chew/​texture. Flavor was meh. I honestly couldn’t tell this was a Sourdough. It was completely flavorless.
Toasting the bread with melted butter added mouth feel but didn’t enhance my overall experience.
I then proceeded to crisping the bread to golden brown in a pan with butter. This, for me, is the ultimate test. No matter what type of bread, if you still think the bread still tastes meh after this method, well, it is safe to conclude the bread sucks. I am sorry to say but I don’t find Sourdough loaf here decent, let alone spectacular.
I understand the bread is gluten free. I have had gluten free bread in the past, but I really don’t understand what the hype is about.

Lemonade is a small bakery shop on Cambie Street, it bakes in organic quinoa, flours, use non GMO oil and etc.
You would able to find daily breads, muffins, scones, cookies, savory breads, personal sized cakes and etc.
I bought some cookies (Chocolate Almond Sparkle. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Quinoa Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin) and cakes, they are crunchy and favorable. However, I found it’s a bit sweet for me.
This is a good bakery shop if you don’t like to shop at Whole Food.

Personally, I am not lactose intolerant or anything related to that matter but I have tried pretty looking gluten free pastries/​bread before with high hopes only to end up with big disappointment. So I honestly didn’t expect much and hesitated walking into Lemonade Gluten Free Bakery but oh my God, I am SOoOo glad I did.
What kind of sorcery is this?! How do they manage to substitute in gluten-​free/​dairy-​free ingredients and still be able to keep the same moistness, texture and taste of a regular pastry with gluten in it?
So far, I have tried the Carrot Orange muffin ($ 3), Raspberry Chocolate Pecan muffin ($ 3), Cinnamon Raisin loaf ($ 7.50), and Oatmeal Raisin cookie ($ 0.90). Both of the muffins were SOO deliciously moist with a perfectly baked crunchy top, the Raspberry Chocolate Pecan was definitely a winner. I bought their Cinnamon Raisin loaf at around 10am on a Saturday and it was still warm. I tried it immediately after I got home and it was just sooo good. Moist on the inside with a thin crunchy crust all around, all the flavours were there yet it was not too sweet — I couldn’t have asked for more. The Oatmeal Raisin cookie however, was nothing too special (maybe cause its GF afterall), there wasn’t much flavour/​texture to the cookie. It was a decent GF cookie but the flavours were just not as harmonious as the other pastries that I have tried.
Lemonade Gluten Free Bakery is definitely worth trying. I will be back soon for the desserts & cupcakes for sure!
