I came to Vancouver for the weekend and was on the search for a grocery store that sold exotic fruits. This store had a good selection of fruit, I saw some jackfruit, mangosteen, dragon fruit, rambutan, ect. You may have to do a little digging though, I noticed that some boxes of fruit were overripe. Overall a good find if you are in the area.

Let’s face it, My Tho is small, dirty and unorganized. I find it a bit problematic that the owners did not even take the time to keep it slightly cleaner. Instead things were piling up, boxes are on the floor randomly and some are freaking dusty. I didn’t think they ever did their inventory. On a positive note however, they have one of the biggest Vietnamese herb selection I have ever seen in Vancouver. They sell fresh pandan leaves which I frequently use for desserts and rice and they are a lot cheaper than South China Seas at Granville Island which carries them sometimes. They also sell FRESH sugar cane juice at their store; not all the time though. I saw the lady extracting the canes through a machine on a Sunday and I was ecstatic! I grew up with sugar cane juice, man! But it is super expensive though. $ 3 for a cup with ice and $ 4 without ice. Thanks but no thanks. But if you haven’t tried them before, I highly recommend them.

My Tho Market isn’t very big, but it’s jam-packed with all the essentials you’ll need to make some awesome Vietnamese food(especially all the random herbs). It’s about a third of the size of Dong Thanh Market down the block, but three times busier.
