If I could give a negative review they would have gotten it. Not only did they have rude and obnoxious staff they gave us a complimentary shot that was watered down with cranberry juice. I was told that this would be a bumping night but it was anything but that. Overly priced for what it is and not worth it. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Save your money and buy some beers and watch a movie at home.

Came here on a Monday night for a couple of drinks. My friend and I got a couple of coupons for a discounted cover and ‘two free shots.’ The bouncer outside told us that it was going to get busy pretty quick. At around 11pm the bar was mostly empty, and the two free shots that we received were Smirnoff mixed with cranberry juice. Not a very good vibe in the bar, the music was okay at best, nothing that we could dance to. Not planning on coming back anytime soon.

The DJ(Houston Hodania) knew how to spin danceable hiphop continuously. Besides that, the dance floor on the ground floor is small and there’s no clearance between the bar.

If you like extremely rude and unorganized staff, this is the club for you! A few weekends ago a group of us for a birthday party went, we had reservations for everyone on the list, and was assured we would receive free cover and a table. As we got there they had«no reservation for us», we had showed them the confirmation email THEY sent us, and the girl at the door still didn’t understand what we were asking for. We demanded the manager and she went to get them. We waited about 15 minutes and someone kept coming back and forth saying the manager was coming, then they were not, then they were, and in the end they never showed up. We finally gave up and agreed to pay cover to get in. The girl at the door took my ID and did not give it back, and then demanded rudely she needed my ID, when I told her(you have it, in your hand) she gave a horrible attitude and was extremely rude. After we all got in, we were told to wait in the corner for another staff member. We waited for about 10 – 15 minutes and no one came over. I asked one of other workers if someone was coming over and she didn’t know what we were talking about, so we waited again, for no reason… The only good thing I can say about this place is the bartenders, they were very fast, very nice, and good at their job over all.

I had an all right experience when I came here. The downstairs was closed for some reason so we all had to go upstairs. No big deal, it has the same things as downstairs — DJ, bar, washrooms, etc. My friend and I got in for free with tickets we got on the street. Coat check was five dollars though… that’s the same price as a drink special. Regardless, I paid for it but noticed a large collection of coats sitting in a pile upstairs and a bunch of people still mingling and dancing while wearing their coats. The DJ was pretty sick. Played a mix of top 40, hip hop, etc. It wasn’t too crowded on the dance floor which was nice. Gives you enough room to actually dance and be able to breathe. One thing I thought was cool was the interior of the bathrooms. They were various X-Rays of different body parts. Not that that really matters, but I thought it was different and funky. Haven’t returned since, don’t know if I will. It didn’t really captivate me like other places, but I didn’t have nearly as bad of an experience as it seems others have.

Really should be a NO star. 2 words… Underage server. NO star! I add these 2 sentences because. Unilocal insists on x number of words to call it a review and I say that is just bunk. You can give a place a great or lousy review with very few words if needed, like I did above. And by the way, when the overwhelming number of reviews are one star it is rather suspicious to see a single four twinkler in there, dontcha think?

We wandered around downtown Vancouver and they have promoters soliciting you to come into their club offering promos and whatnot. This asian girl approached me and my friends and offered us $ 8 dollar cover and a free drink if we went to republic. I didn’t know anything about Canadian nightlife so why not. There wasn’t a line but then again it was like 10pm. I don’t like the 2 story layout of this nightclub and I wasn’t a fan of the music they were playing… hip hop/r&b. It’s not that spacious and can get hard to walk around. I’m going to be honest I just wasn’t feeling the vibe(music, crowd, etc)…maybe if I was into hip hop and an older crowd If you’re about that EDM untz untz life don’t bother coming here.

This place is really overpriced for what you get, it’s never very full, the set up is bad and the music isn’t great

The environment at Republic is not conducive to mingling. There is a downstairs, upstairs, and VIP room that you have to wait in line for, so everyone is split up, making it hard to socialize. There is only one filthy toilet shared by guys and girls so be prepared to wait in line and hold your nose. Plus, when I was there the DJ cut out frequently, leaving us with awkward silence. I don’t know if that is a recurring thing, but I won’t be returning to find out. This space would be better utilized as a restaurant/pub, perhaps with some live music on that stage of theirs.

Horrible horrible night club, the doormen and bouncers are extremely rude, they swear a lot and don’t care about running their business right at all! The crowd isn’t very good either! It always smells bad there don’t ever go!

Slowest bartenders in the city that will then get your drinks wrong. Biggest meathead and most unprofessional bouncers that are unfriendly and have no clue how to treat customers. Finally the dj’s that play music that was mashed up on garageband in their mom’s basement.

The Republic has gone through some changes the last few years and unfortunately has gone through changes to the layout which negatively affect the experience there. The club has a fairly narrow space and a lot of the areas have been replaced with table service, making it even narrower. With the front room DJ booth detatched and floating above the ground level, there is no area in the front room that gives the room a «focus.» Almost nowhere in the front room except along the top rail can even see the DJ booth. As a result, the audience and the DJ can’t connect with each other. This leaves people heading to the upstairs room, but with such a small area and a lot of people going there, they have to make a line-up to get to that area too. I’m not a bar expert, but I have gone out a lot, so if I can suggest anything given the current layout would be to find a way to make the downstairs and bottom bar more of a focus again. I don’t know the best way to do this, and I think they’ve tried, by having gogo dancers downstairs, but they should keep at it. I commend their Management for trying to stay open multiple nights per week in a city that doesn’t have much going on during weekdays in terms of night life.

Long lines and dead inside. 10 dollar watered downed drinks with mandatory tipping. Bartenders will make you wait 10 minutes to order a drink while they socialize with one another including the manager. Avoid this club like the plague. Caprice or Venue is much better and that’s not saying much either.

This club sucks balls. Don’t waste your money coming here. They have a stupid separate line up upstairs to access the dance floor, the black bouncer only lets girls or black people in.

I came here with 2 girlfriends about a month ago. Was a terrible experience! We waited at the bar and were ignored by a few different bar tenders. Took forever to get any drinks. They all had bad attitudes and were very rude. we sat at a booth down stairs with our drinks just talking. And the bartender thought he would be cool and shoot water at his buddy or something but missed and soaked all of us girls. Was not impressed at all. They used to be way better and busier. But as of late they are usually dead and provide shitty experiences. The only nice thing about this place is the bouncers.

Ok this place has gotten worse over the years. For instance, they have a seperate dance floor upstairs that anybody could access, but now there’s a seperate line up to get in there! Really? Not even Vegas does that b. s! Who do you think you are? Lol We went upstairs early so there was no line up. After a while we needed to go to the bathroom. We go, come back and the indoor bouncer wants us to stand in line. Uh… are you nuts? We complained and he let us in. Really? Otherwise, good music and fairly nice inside.

Ok, I know… most people are going to say why am I giving 4 stars to republic. Well…it’s because i like it. Let’s look at your typical club atmosphere. 1.) Long Line ups where you might not get in 2.) Unfriendly bouncers that don’t smile or acknowledge you(hey they have a large crowd of rowdy people to control so maybe they have to look tough.) 3.) Not enough girls(if you’re a guy) and a lot of douchebag aggressive guys that think they can get sex for the price of a drink(if you’re a girl) 4.) LOUD Music Well, here’s my analysis of Republic. 1.) Long line ups only exist on the weekend. I’m usually here Sunday to Thursday and there usually is no line or a very short line. 2.) I can’t agree with unfriendly bouncers because, well, after going here so many times you get to meet them and most of them are pretty friendly if you get to know them. Sebastian and Tazer are really good guys at the front and so is Johnny, Derek, Quinn and Cam. All the bouncers are usually dressed well(have you seen the bouncers at other clubs? They are dressed in muscle shirts to look intimidating. Here the bouncers are dressed. actually very professionally and are friendly when you get to know them.) 3.) As for the girls and guys, well… it’s a club. There’s always enough women around and I’m apologizing for most of the guys because that’s how some guys are in the club. It’s only a few bad apples that cause the whole bunch to have that rep. But women with their protection shields usually do a good job of weeding them out. I guess depending on the night the girl to guy ratio might have more guys to girls, but I find its generally even most nights. 4.) Actually, the volume is not that bad I find. I’ve left this club to go to other places and Republic’s level is actually still loud enough to dance to and quiet enough to have an intimate conversation with someone. What I like about this club the most is that you have two rooms and two different vibes. Sure sometimes it might take awhile to get into the Hip Hop room(AKA the Annex) on Friday and Saturday but the fact is you’ll eventually get there and if you don’t, the main room still is playing pretty good music and there is a different vibe between being downstairs and upstairs in the main room too. Republic is like two or three night clubs in one that way. Instead of bouncing and paying cover at another bar or club, you can just move rooms and get into a different vibe. The drinks are cheap from Sunday(except on long weekends) to Wednesday with most high balls under $ 4. They try a lot of different things to make this club work. One time they hired the Vancouver Circus School to perform at the club and it was like being at Cirque du Soleil with performers falling and climbing up ribbons in the bar, a dancer inside a hoop suspended from the ceiling and a guy walking on stilts. That was magical. I love watching the bartenders work here, especially on the ground floor. See my photo of one of the bartenders lighting the bar on fire and blowing fire. Tommy is also a good bar tender watching him juggle liquor bottles and cups that guy actually loves his job and it shows. I’m very impressed. Most of the bartenders are nice to talk to and same with the coat check ladies when it’s not busy. Once in awhile you can find free cover tickets from promoters on the street or at least discount tickets. I guess the one caveat you have to be aware of if you are a guy is to never bring a girl here unless you have her locked down. I one brought these three girls I met to Republic here from another bar on a Friday night. It was cool except for when we went into the hip hop room and the bouncer there crept up from behind and pulled her away from me when I went to buy them drinks at the bar. And she was holding me around my waist when I was leaning against the bar too. I turned for a second to buy a few drinks and the bouncer pulled her off me. After I’m standing with her friend looking at the, with one extra drink while he gets her number and I’m thinking WTF?(Hey, he’s a bouncer and I’m just a patron but wow, seriously?) Ever since then, I tend to avoid bringing girls to this bar. That’s the only bad thing I have to say about this club. But then, another time another bouncer actually helped me pick up a girl and this other time I was really glad that there was a bouncer around when some jealous guy tried to pick a fight with me for talking to his«girl»(she never mentioned that she had a boyfriend!) I could keep writing on and on, but I would say just to check it out. Especially on the weekdays(you’d be surprised how busy it gets on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I like the music here better on Wednesday’s but it typically doesn’t get busy until real late Wednesday.)
