Back to Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen! It was a pretty spontaneous whim on the part of my friend. Luckily I had my previous blog post on Siddhartha’s to remind me of what I had had before. Vegetable Pakora($ 6.50) –Nothing special tasting here. Price feels sort of high for what you get. Smoked Eggplant Curry($ 12.50) –Dish name says«smoked eggplant» but description says roasted eggplant with smoky TEXTURE. What is a «smoky texture»? –Pulpy. No thin curry here. –Salty. –Where’s my smoky aroma, flavour, or «texture»? “Naan instead”($ 2) –Asked for garlic butter naan instead of roti, which normally comes with curry(roti + rice). Told her if it couldn’t be done, just give us an order of garlic butter naan. –No buttery aroma or taste, and definitely no garlic. Hmm. My guess is they forgot to change it to garlic butter naan and just gave us regular boring naan. Mango Lemonade($ 3) –Description said mango mousse with mint and lemonade. –Where’s my mint and lemonade? –Tasted like mango syrup.

After hearing that they recently got their liquor license I decided to check it out. On entertainment of the premises I found the atmosphere quite nice and we seated quickly. I ordered ½ litre of red wine and started with the vegetable pakora. I found the portion very small and the flavour was ok. For the main course I ordered the Chicken Variety platter, Lamb Saab and garlic naan. The lamb arrived first and was delicious. The Chicken platter followed that had no variety, 2 sewers loaded with paneer(cheese), a little onion and a little green pepper. Not sure where the variety was. The portion of chicken was good unfortunately it was drier than a popcorn fart. Service mediocre. I noticed the male server was doing all of the work while the gal didn’t do much. It took forever for us to get the bill. To end on a positive, the naan bread was yummy. I think from now on I’ll be getting my Indian food on the other end of the drive.

Had a similar experience as Jasmine. Ordered dinner online for three people for delivery a little over a week ago. I live at Commercial and 3rd so I should have just gotten it for take out but I was feeling under the weather, had a guest over and the weather was horrible. So I placed the order at 7:26, heard nothing, called restaurant at 8:15, the girl looked for the order and then thanked me for calling implying they hadn’t even gotten to my order yet… At 9:00 I called back, spoke to who I assume was the owner, he said his driver was out with it and it should get to me soon. Still nothing by 9:30pm, I call back, the owner said the weather was bad and the driver had to deliver all the way to Marine Drive, I asked why he didn’t just drop it off to us first as were literally a few streets away as he said it didn’t work that way. He offered me a 20% refund on my order, that he would hand deliver the following day as I paid by PayPal(even gave the driver a $ 8 tip as you need to prepay for it…) Finally the food arrived at 9:57, lucky still a little bit warm. Did the owner drop off the 20% refund? Nope. Will I order from them again or recommend the place? Not a chance.

I asked for the butter chicken and the chicken was not not cooked well, I told them and they happily offered me another meal from the menu. I ordered the lamb and it was also not cooked very well! The stew was actually not that bad, it was the actual meat not cooked well. Also the staff were friendly and respectful. The portions were ok, maybe not enough rice for the amount of stew they bring. Will I go back? No!

I live in the neighborhood and was really excited to see that Siddhartha’s also delivers and i guess two hours and 2 phone calls to the restaurant later we finally got our cold food. Never again. Thanks…

Just waited two hours for delivery. Called twice and was told the driver left already the first time, after 70 min. and they said food should be delivered in a couple of min(we live in the area). Called half an hour later and they said they would find out where driver is. Never called us back. 15 more min. food arrives. Cold. So disappointed. We wanted yummy hot food on a stay in movie night and paid $ 40 for what tasted like day old cold food. Never again, man. Pick up only there. I’m not going to give them my business for a while.

I’ve never set foot in this physical restaurant, however I have ordered from them via Just Eat, and overall my experience was good. The delivery was super fast(30 minutes or less) and the delivery guy was friendly. We ordered the Lamb Curry, Bangan Masala(eggplant), samosas, and naan. Lamb curry and bangan masala were very flavourful(in the past, I’ve been disappointed by some very bland curries, but not the case here!) and packed a little bit of heat. They were good portions too — two of us had enough leftovers for lunch for 2 days! I would order both of these dishes again, without hesitation. Instead of the vegetarian samosas that we ordered they delivered us 1 samosa, a few pakoras, and what maybe was some tandoori chicken bites(?). This was a disappointment as we’re not fans of chicken or pakoras to begin with. The samosa was average, but the pakoras and chicken were bland and just not tasty at all. The naan we ordered was also quite chewy/hard. Other Unilocalers say the naan is good, so maybe it just doesn’t travel well and is better to enjoy when eating in? Despite the few issues we had, this is some of the better delivery we’ve had in Vancouver and we felt it was very good value for the money(with a 10% off coupon, the meal came to about $ 35 including tax and tip). We’d definitely order from them again, but we’ll stick to the mains and skip the appetizers and sides next time.

Came here with a buddy because they had a «re-opening» of the place. Sid the owner suggested the lamb which was off the menu for my friend. I chose the butter chicken which was very good. I’m happy with the presentation because it was brought out in a coconut shell, something different. We also tried the mango drink which was refreshing and some deep fried appies which was ok only for my liking. The pricing is a bit higher than I expected it to be considered its around the commercial area. Street parking is available.

If you’re looking for truly authentic and delicious Indian food this is the place. It recently reopened(January 2015) after renovating the kitchen and Siddhartha the owner and chief is working his culinary magic most nights. The butter chicken is very tasty with a rich sauce and perfect naans. I usually order the vegetarian pakora as a starter. The lamb curry is also worth checking out. The prices are reasonable and they have some great specials so phone them to see when and what is available. They also serve up a great beer and tandori happy hour deal for about $ 9 which is a killer deal anywhere on the Drive.

So glad this place is finally open again. My favorite dish is the lamb korma — rich and flavourful without being too spicy.

The service was good and there was nothing wrong with the food, but it wasn’t amazing either. We had a starter platter and a meat platter and everything was hot and cooked ok. It wasn’t particularly flavourful or spicy though. Just ok. So a solid 3 stars.

Very flavoursome food. High degree of passion in the cooking. Excellent value on the lunch curries. The standards are consistent, and that’s a good thing. The owners are the nicest people around.

Solid 3.5 stars. Turns out that whatever renos were going on, the owner had gone back to India for awhile. Still the same nice décor, un-Indian as compared to like a Nirvana’s. Their garlic naan is as pillow-y good as advertised, worth trying. Good corner location in the Drive. They offer delivery.

So, right now they are closed for renos. I assume there will be another price increase when they re-open. I used to drop in quite a bit and order deliver once in a while. Then the prices went up. Then the portions got smaller. Then naan was no longer an option to have instead of rice. You had to have rice, naan was an extra charge. Last straw. Too bad, because the food is tasty, but the value just isn’t there anymore…

I purchased a groupon so we could try this place out… I had heard the food was quite good… and had wanted to try it. When we got there… I handed them my groupon so they knew we had it… We had a look over the menu and were ready to order when the host came over and said that they were sorry… they couldn’t accept this groupon… I looked at the paper and I had accidentally handed them a recipe for an Italian dish that I had printed out! We all had a good laugh… as the host said the cook didn’t know how to make ravioli! LOL Once we got that all figured out we ordered our food! The Delhi’s Aloo Tikki was probably my favourite dish… super flavourful… fantastic presentation… not too spicy… delicious! We also had the Chicken Tikka & the Butter Chicken… both were excellent! The Naan was good too… we ordered both the Garlic & the Cilantro/Onion…light, buttery, and crispy in all the right places! As the host was taking away the leftovers to be boxed up for our lunch the next day he said«Now wasn’t that better than pasta?!» We had a fun time with good food… we will definitely be going back!

I tried this restaurant with a friend because she had a certificate, not a Groupon, some other sort of certificate. She decided to keep it hidden as she had used one before and presented it early and said she suspected her service suffered because of it. I suspect she was wrong, because the service was pretty crappy even without their knowing we had it. We both ordered butter chicken, not very adventurous, I know, but I have just started to enjoy butter chicken, so wanted to try theirs. I order mild, as I am a wimp, but it tasted literally like Campbell’s tomato soup made with milk and some chicken. I ordered rice and naan with it, and I didn’t get the rice with the meal, we had to ask. She said it was coming, so I sat there letting my food get cold waiting. Finally, when we saw the next table be their rice, we kind of got impatient and had to ask a second time. So irritating. The naan wasn’t very good compared to other Indian restaurants, though the long awaited rice was good and prettied up with a few peas. We both decided to try the Chai Crème Brûlée as we had had this dessert at another restaurant years ago, but this time it was pretty underwhelming. Pretty bland, though it looked very pretty on arrival. Got take away Saag Paneer for my husband and he really liked it, though he also commented on the crappy naan. Not a great dining experience, though not the worst. With all the Indian restaurant choices in the Lower Mainland though, we probably won’t go back.

3.5 stars. I came to write a review of this place and was surprised to see the 2.5 star rating. Granted, I’m not giving it a much higher rating, but it’s mostly because I think it’s rather pricey for what you get normally. I came a couple of months ago to use my friend’s groupon, which gave us half off. Venue: The restaurant itself is quite spacious — they could probably fit a couple more tables in here. There are huge pieces of artwork that hang on the wall and the restaurant itself is a bit dim. Food: Tasty. We could only order from one side of the menu to use the groupon, and we got the butter chicken and a vegetable dish(I forgot the name, but it was mixed veggies in a creamy sauce), along with rice and garlic naan. The butter chicken flavorful and moist, and the veggies were decent. The naan was also good but a little burnt on the edges. I thought the portion sizes were ok, but we definitely needed the naan and rice to help fill us up. Service: Service was great — the waitress seemed to stumble over our order a little bit, but everything came out correctly and in a fairly timely manner. The owner came out and chit chatted with us a bit — I thought he was really friendly. All in all a decent experience, though I wasn’t super impressed by the food. I would come back if I were in the neighborhood and craving Indian food.

I didn’t plan on coming here. I only noticed this place ’cause I slowed down enough to catch it. I was supposed to go somewhere else for dessert, however, due to traffic and logistic issues, I gave this place a shot due to hunger levels. The décor is clean dark woods. Very spacious. The square footage to seating ratio is a bit off, they could fit a few more tables to accommodate more people. I ordered the chicken which was tender enough that I didn’t need a fork. The prices are a bit $$$ considering what you get. On top of that you have to order the rice as that’s not included like other Indian restaurants. I got 7 nuggets which filled me up after 4 surprisingly(considering that I came in really hungry). The customer service was amazing and even at the 10 minute mark the waitress offered to check on my meal. My only disappointment was that they were all out of my favorite dessert which made me sad as I like to have dessert as my appie. Also this is a staple traditional East Indian dessert, therefore, to be out before dinner service was unacceptable on a Friday night. Unless they did mad business at lunch on a work week, you cannot be under prepared for anything on the menu on the weekend. The ladies were well dressed and it was somewhat classy without being too upscale making it comfortable for the culture on The Drive. It wasn’t the most fantastic Indian food I’ve had, especially for the prices but it hit the spot. I do not think that I will be making a repeat visit.
